[Bug 848631] [NEW] gedit will never start on first attempt
Public bug reported: For whatever reason, in Ubuntu OO, gedit never starts on the first attempt. It always starts on the second and additional attempts. I did find this in .xsession-errors: ** (process:1675): DEBUG: zeitgeist-datahub.vala:174: Inserting 1 events The icon shows up in the task bar for a few seconds, fading in and out. Then it just disappears when you click on it. To reproduce, go to the dash search, type in gedit, then click on it. [Bug 56035] Re: Autologin dont work on the second Xserver
Actually it's not a duplicate, it's almost the opposite. #34795 complains that autologin happens on switch user, and tries to log in as the same user already logged in before, which is clearly not helpful. That was apparently fixed (enough to close #34795) by completely disabling auto login after the first login. I don't think that's the right solution. There are systems where people log in and out frequently: * internet cafes * multihead systems like this bug and [https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336174#c44] * many use cases for switch user, e.g. testing locked-down accounts, shared home computer, media centre computer The best solution imho would be to check whether the autologin user is already logged in, and disable autologin in that case. A hack would be to disable autologin on switch user. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #336174 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336174 ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 34795 authentication failed on switch user with timed login -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/56035 Title: Autologin dont work on the second Xserver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/56035/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 848757] [NEW] Empathy fails connecting to jabber account - No reason specified
Public bug reported: I have seen some other people reporting a similar bug (e.g. #753820) with similar issues, but not sure if the causes are the same. Might be a duplicate in the end. Situation: I was using Empathy with this jabber account for some time now, everything worked fine. Until one day it simply stopped working - that day no updates have been made or system changes. Empathy simply can't connect to the account, giving an error No reason specified. Other clients connect correctly. I have attached mission-control and gabble (jabber) logs for convenience. I did some research and experiments regarding this bug, as I am able to temporarily remove it. It seems the problem might be related to mission-control-5. After removal of the .mission-control directory, killing the mission-control-5 process, and inputting account data anew, Empathy connects with no problems. Disconnecting and connecting works correctly. The problem re-appears whenever Empathy is restarted. No changes seem to happen in .mission-control/ between the working and not working versions (diff -urN returns nothing). Reinstall of empathy by itself doesn't help. [Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX / VNC / LTSP
Derek: The criteria is that you hit this bug on a certain package. ;-) I think most packages should be fixed, even if a small minority should keep using allow_active: it can only be useful when e.g. managing hardware, sound, mounted devices, etc. In these cases, only the current user should be allowed to run the action. But in most cases, it's too much of a restriction, and if you feel the need for the change, it's probably that it should happen. One way to find these packages is to run grep -R allow_anyno /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ and then check each file and try to guess whether the use of allow_active only is legetimate or not. Then, file a bug uptsream and open a bug watch here. Ben: One reason why GDM devs haven't replied can be that upstream's 3.0 uses GSettings for gdmsetup, and doesn't suffer from the bug. Ubuntu would need to check that. Other maintainers might be more responsive. If you fear that people will make the same mistake in the future, then you can write a simple patch the the Polkit tutorial. Notably, the example config file could have allow_anyauth_admin/allow_any instead of no, or a comment could explain what reasonable defaults are. [Bug 848833] [NEW] Multitouch support in evince is half-baked
Public bug reported: I am using an Apple Magic Trackpad with my Ubuntu system (Oneiric Beta 1). Evince seems to recognise some gestures, but even basic functionality is not working properly. * Scrolling with a two-finger gesture works, but there is a lag each time before scrolling actually starts, i.e. one starts the gesture, and only half a second or a second later the scrolling starts on the screen. This happens with both my internal touchpad, as well as the external Apple bluetooth trackpad. * Rotating works, however the zoom level changes in an unpredictable way. In fact, after repeated rotating, my document is as small as a stamp! * Zooming gestures are recognised, but the screen is not redrawn. Only after clicking and scrolling in the UI, the document is shown at the new size. [Bug 849017] [NEW] Oneiric appearance settings won't let you change icon theme

[Bug 792636] Re: Power section no longer allows configuration of when the lid is closed action in Oneiric
Having attended two conferences recently (LinuxCon and LinuxPlumbers), I heard this complaint over and over and over again about both Unity and Gnome3. I'm raising this bug to Critical (though I suspect it'll be lowered to High), nominating for Oneiric, and targeting at the 11.10 release. I've also noted in the bug description that this is a regression from previous versions of Ubuntu. Hopefully this bug will get some attention and get fixed! [Bug 844957] Re: Safely removing external (usb) hdd's can cause a kernel panic or system freeze
Certainly seems to be a kernel issue, possibly g-s-d should be invalid, or maybe you should create a new bug The only thing here is that if I don't let g-s-d automount the drive w/ the helper then at least w/ the 3 drives I have SR always works fine. Went back again to 11.04, (2.6.38-9), to re-test using all my drives this time and found that 2 drives worked fine but 1 did produce a panic. The 1 that panics does not have a power switch on the drive, the 2 that are ok both have a switch on the drive...? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/844957 Title: Safely removing external (usb) hdd's can cause a kernel panic or system freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/844957/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 792636] Re: [Regression] Power section no longer allows configuration of when the lid is closed action in Oneiric
