[Bug 637979] [NEW] Removeable filesystems are not automatically mounted during boot.

2012-05-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If a removable drive (such as a USB flash drive) is plugged in, it
typically is automounted by Gnome. It is not automounted if the device
is already plugged in during boot.

Story:
A user plugs in a flash drive and starts working. He gets on the plane, so he
shuts down the system. Once the plane lands, the user boots up the system - the
drive is no longer mounted. This violates the principle of least surprise. The
user is forced to re-mount the drive through the disk utility or unplug and
replug it (which can be a challenge depending on where the device is plugged
in).

mountall is responsible for the mounting of statically configured

[Bug 687635] Re: No easy way to make Samba shares permanent

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Not sure why this was assigned to mountall; mountall only parses
/etc/fstab at boot time, it certainly isn't going to be responsible for
writing to it. Reassigning to nautilus, which I guess is what would
have to provide an option to convert gvfs mounts into boot-time mounts
by adding them to the /etc/fstab. (This is probably a bad idea, but I
guess that's a decision for the desktop team.)

When I plug an usb device and I format it through right click format, after the
task is done, it remounts the device and open the empty device in nautilus

It should open only once.
It could not open at all because if we want to use the usb key to run "create a
startup disk" it is no use and if we need to put files in it, we only have to
double click the icon on the desktop to open the device.

[Bug 687635] [NEW] No easy way to make Samba shares permanent

2012-05-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

NAS are becoming a popular add-on to people networks, used for every purpose
from backing up data to let it be available to multiple PCs on the same (W)LAN.
Usually network attached drives are available through a Samba share and the
only way to browse them in Ubuntu is going through the Network window.
This makes no easy task to save files on daily basis since there's no easy way
to browse the drive from many windows (i.e. save or open windows) except going
inside .gvfs folder which is not user friendly. Also, these drives will not be
mounted on boot, so in order to use them users must go through the Network
window every time (or edit by themselves fstab).

Every time a user browse a Samba share it should be prompted with the
option to save them with a panel inside the Nautilus window (like it
happens when Ubuntu recognize a Camera when it's browsed with Nautilus)
in order to make that samba share automount on every boot.

2012-05-19 Thread Clark Everetts
I use both Ubuntu and OSX, found that right-clicking on the image in
LibreOffice (in OSX) and selecting "Save Graphics" allows one to choose
another format.

I know, I know. What would be really useful is if I helped with a fix
for *Ubuntu* - but I have a deadline, and needed a workaround today
fast. Actually, the client sent me a bunch of .docx files with the wmf
images inside, so I unzipped them and opened the /word/media/image*.wmf
files in LibreOffice. When you open the wmfs this way, right-clicking
yields a "Save as Picture" dialog, instead of "Save Graphics."

I have an inkling of where the problem might be; after I've put out my
fires, I'll look and see what turns up. After 19 months, a bit more
time doesn't seem like it'll hurt that much.

Re: [Bug 315562] Re: spell check uses wrong English dictionary

2012-05-19 Thread George Fragos
I'm not seeing what you do but I did uninstall British, Australian and
other English spell check dictionaries because I felt I didn't need them. I
only have the English_US dictionary. Note that Language Settings warns me
that I'm missing those deleted English dictionaries but my system still
functions correctly.

Have a nice day -- *George*

[Bug 994243] Re: cannot print to file after selecting preview in print settings

2012-05-19 Thread sharky6000
I have a similar problem after the upgrade to 12.04. I can't even print
(even if I don't do a preview first) ... but only when I do *some* of
the pages, like e.g. just page 1. If I print or preview the entire
document, both work fine.

I'm attaching the results of error messages output by the printer
diagnostic wizard.

I have an Epson Style NX215 with no special custom drivers which worked
out of the box. I tried removing and reisntalling evince, no luck.

[Bug 945157] Re: sometimes it miss the menus

2012-05-19 Thread qwerty
This bug affects me. I noticed this since upgraded to precise around in the
first beta. I have every package up-to-date and I am still experiencing the
issue.
When this happens the bookmarks in nautilus quicklist don't work.
After killing nautilus and starting it again, everything works just fine.

I wouldn't be sure if this is really a bug, though. Since upgrade I
noticed lots of weirdness in my install: sometimes X just crashes with
sig 11, vlc losses audio after pausing or seeking on any video,
pulseaudio is flakier than usual - it just decides to restart,
transmission-gtk refuses to let me change the download directory (not a
bug in transmission, but an unexpected event from gtk - #915165).

I'm planning to ditch this install one of these days, maybe it is too
much two years worth upgrades. I didn't do it yet because I wanted to
find the culprit of all these errors that I can't find reported as bugs.

I have attached .xsession-errors. If there is something else I can get
from my install to help, please let me know.

I noticed something in the past days. If I click shutdown the screen normaly
turns black very fast. It does not show "Ubuntu" with the four dots, and at the
end of the process I have to turn off the computer by pressing the power button
a long time.
The few times I see the screen with Ubuntu and the four dots the shutdown works
fine.

[Bug 987220] Re: no complete shutdown

2012-05-19 Thread Andre
I experienced the problem now also on another machine which I tried to
shutdown via "sudo halt". Shutdown seemed to be OK, but the PC (desktop)
was not switched off. I didn't experience this problem on Oneiric. It
was introduced after the upgrade to Precise Pangolin.

[Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI

2012-05-19 Thread Adam Baker
The Do Nothing option does seem to be supported if you don't use the
gui for configuration. To set it from the command line use

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power critical-battery-
action 'nothing'

You can also say 'suspend' instead of 'nothing' to meet the original
posters requirement

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04. Pulse Audio related?

2012-05-19 Thread Bill Baker
I would just like to add that I'm seeing these issues as well. After
playing a few games, the sound will get stuck in a loop from time to
time, eventually getting to a point where I have to kill the game in
order to stop it. And as other people have said, the score at the end
is always wrong. It seems that the previous version of iagno was a lot
more stable. I never had any problems with that version.

[Bug 315562] Re: spell check uses wrong English dictionary

2012-05-19 Thread PJSingh5000
I am experiencing this problem in Ubuntu recise 12.04 x64.

In the Language Support dialog from System Settings...
On the Language tab, I have (listed in order)...
English (United States)
English
I have clicked the Apply System-Wide botton.

On the Language tab, I have...
English (United States) selected in the drop-down menu
I have clicked the Apply System-Wide botton.

I restarted my computer, but gedit (version 3.4.1) still uses British
spellings in the spell-checker.

Interestingly, about:config in FireFox reveals en_AU for the
spellchecker.dictionaly value. I don't know if these issues are
related, but I would expect gedit and FireFox to pull the settings from
the Operating System.

(Is Ubuntu using Australian spellings instead of U.S.?)

[Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI

2012-05-19 Thread Adam Baker
As suspend is the default behaviour it clearly should be in the menu
otherwise if you change it you can't change it back. Also as power off
doesn't save state there is nothing to lose from suspending and
hopefully having time to find a power socket rather than powering off.

Ideally there should also be a "Do Nothing" option as well to cope with
hardware that misreports the low battery condition.

[Bug 995840] Re: When laptop lid is closed screen locks even if it should not

2012-05-19 Thread amcnea
I seem to have this same problem, however, I have an issue severly
compounding it. In addition to the computer locking when the lid is
closed, sometimes the login screen doesn't appear. All I have is a
blank screen of my desktop. I haven't found a way to fix this or get
around it yet. Except for a hard reboot. Although I haven't really
tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and killing/messing with things.

I just did an upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 about 24 hours ago. I tried
unlocking everything and hopefully that will be a quick fix for my
problems. But, having about a 50% chance of having to reboot the system
eveytime the lid is closed is pretty bad. I am not sure if this should
be posted on a different or new bug report, but as it seemed related I
figured I should start by posting it here.

2012-05-19 Thread Elijah Lynn
Same here on a Lenovo Thinkpad W510. The brightness sliider in settings
does not work as well as the hardware keys. I am using Nvidia drivers.
What is also interesting is that I rebooted 2 times before now and the
hardware keys did not even bring up the brightness slider overlay on the
top right, but after the latest reboot it appears it is back but just
doesn't do anything.

Hello
Today I've changed the language of my system passing from Italian to English.
All the packages for English are completely installed and the Italian Language
is removed.
After reboot I've got the right Desktop directory (empty) and the old Scrivania
(Desktop translated, with the existent files) in the Home directory.
Now the system isn't showing me the Desktop directory, but the Scrivania (with
my files).
Also if I drag and drop a file it disappear from the showed Scrivania directory
and appear in the Desktop directory.
See attached screencast

[Bug 1001573] [NEW] cd/dvd mounting failed everytime

2012-05-19 Thread melchiaros
Public bug reported:

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit updated to 19.5.2012.

On inserting a cd/dvd on any contend - also blank ones - Ubuntu is not
able to mount the cd/dvd and eject it immediatelly from drive.

In moment I could not use the drive at whole with this bug.

In additional: When the drive has one time ejected a disk a closing of
the drive (emty) causes the same behaviour. It open immediatelly even if
it is emty. A closing of the drive is no longer possible.

Additional:

This is a regression bug that must be shipped with one of the latest
updates to the system. Following the gvfs change log it could not be
gvfs directly(last change on 16.4.2012), but must be any other package.

[Bug 954952] Re: Scrolling through the playlist with the mouse wheel also skips ahead/back in the current track

2012-05-19 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
This bug does not happen on Oneiric although the Precise package is
based on the same upstream tarball (Totem 3.0.1).

I managed to rebuild and install the Oneiric package on my Precise box, but it
did not solve this issue.
So I guess this is probably not a Totem bug, but rather a bug in a dependency
or an input bug (xorg?)

[Bug 1001570] [NEW] Regresson: Unable to import WMF images into GIMP, or convert them using wmf2xxx

2012-05-19 Thread Paddy Landau
Public bug reported:

I have put the package on this bug as GIMP, but seeing the range of
problems (described below), it is probably something else.

SUMMARY:

1. In Lucid 10.04, GIMP would flawlessly import WMF files.

2. Starting Maverick 10.10, it would not work.

3. There was, at least, a work-around, in that the tools wmf2xxx could
convert the files into a different format (e.g. EPS), which GIMP could
import.

4. But with Precise 12.04, even that work-around fails.

MORE INFORMATION:

* When trying to open a file with GIMP, GIMP incorrectly recognises the
WMF dimensions as having dimensions of -1x-1 (see attached screen-shot),
and having negative X and Y ratios. GIMP will allow you to correct the
width and height, but not the resolution, making importing impossible.

* wmf2xxx fails with error code 1 but no error message.

* convert (from ImageMagick) fails with error code 1 and the message:
failed to scan file `t2.wmf' @ error/wmf.c/ReadWMFImage/186.

* Surprisingly, Libre Office Writer and Draw are able to import WMF
files. Unfortunately, Libre Office crops the images, so that they anyway
cannot be used.

This regression has been hanging around for 19 months, and really needs
fixing. The only remaining work-around is to either boot into Windows or
run 10.04 in a virtual machine, neither of which is an acceptable
solution.

[Bug 904845] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 unable to reboot

2012-05-19 Thread Bhil Lawson
I have a Packard Bell dot s f3711 and am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I
encountered the same problem but could solve it by adding "reboot=e" to
the kernel command line. So do:

- edit file /etc/default/grub as root (sudo gedit /etc/default/grub)
- add reboot=e to the entry GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
- save file and exit editor
- run update-grub as root (sudo update-grub)
- please note the problem won't disappear before the 2nd reboot

"reboot=e" tells the kernel to use an EFI function for reboot instead of
the default keyboard controller mechanism.

Cheers, Bhil

[Bug 1001555] [NEW] When I connect my ipod to Rhthymbox, and try to add podcasts, I always end up with multiple copies of said podcast

2012-05-19 Thread Andrea Speed
Public bug reported:

When I connect my ipod to Rhthymbox, and try to add podcasts, I always
end up with multiple copies of said podcast, and if I remove one from
the ipod, I seem to remove them all. Sometimes also after I remove the
podcast from my ipod, Rhtymbox crashes, and I have to restart it. Any
idea why this may be happening, and is there anything I can do to fix
this? I've tried reinstalling, but that does nothing. Thanks.
