[Bug 1083497] Re: Empathy doesn't detect online accounts
I made some additionnal testing. First I removed Empathy by running sudo apt-get purge empathy*, then, I removed all hidden folder called empathy in my home, and I restarted the PC. Reinstalled Empathy with the software center, run it, reconfigured the online accounts and the result is the same, empathy doesn't see anything. I attached the debugger output and the terminal Empathy trace. What is interesting is the last debugger message: empathyDispatcher-DEBUG: 02/04/2013 09:02:57.321650: empathy_status_icon_new: Not started with session, showing contact list which shows, I guess, that Empathy doesn't work with an Active Directory session. ** Attachment added: Empathy debugger https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/1083497/+attachment/3514126/+files/empathy.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1083497 Title: Empathy doesn't detect online accounts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/1083497/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1115110] [NEW] NEL character doesn't cause gnome terminal to scroll
Public bug reported: Gnome terminal should interpret ESC E as NEL (0x85) (see the description of C1 (8-Bit) Control Characters here: http://www.xfree86.org/current/ctlseqs.html). As I understand it, NEL should be treated pretty much like LF (0x0A). In gnome terminal, if I run echo -n -e '\eE' near the top of the window, it prints a blank line, which is good. But if I run it when the shell prompt is already at the bottom of the window, it doesn't print a blank line. This seems wrong. By contrast, echo -n -e '\n' always prints a blank line. [Bug 1042456] Re: Huawei e398 doesn't work
FWIW, I have never had any problems using PPP with my Huawei E392 modem on LTE, except for upstream bandwidth being limited around 8 Mbits/s. But that is a somewhat different firmware with a different set of bugs from the E398 The issue sounds like a firmware problem. Which isn't unexpected. The PPP firmware support is probably completely untested, as the Windows drivers don't use it. If you are lucky then it works. If not, then there isn't much you can do about it. [Bug 1067876] Re: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from Quicklists. Only have Unmount.
Lisa, [Safely Remove] = eject + REMOVE POWER from USB device. The 'remove power' is the main issue. Removing/disconnecting ANY electronic device with power still applied is dangerous. This is the reason for [Safely Remove] option for mounted USB sticks. Without the [Safely Remove] option, the only way to SAFELY remove/disconnect a USB stick is to shutdown your system first. As I said before, the reasoning given for NOT putting [Safely Remove] is bogus and dangerous thinking. It is evidence that those who made the decision to remove the option are saying they are dumber than Windoz or other Linux OS which HAVE the option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067876 Title: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from Quicklists. The source code of gnome-control-center, file panels/printers/pp-utils.c contains -- [...] static void get_device_attributes_async_scb (GHashTable *result, gpointeruser_data) { [...] const gchar *backends[] = {hpfax, ncp, beh, bluetooth, snmp, dnssd, hp, ipp, lpd, parallel, serial, socket, usb, NULL}; [...] -- and tests show that the tool is actually only discovering printers through these backends. It is easy to make CUPS using all backends for detecting printers, one can do it by a single function call. Other printer setup tools do it this way and I expect gnome-control-center to also use all CUPS backends, so that users who use special backends can set up their printers. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Attachment added: /usr/lib/cups/backend/testbackend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1115653/+attachment/3514989/+files/testbackend -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1115653 Title: GNOME Printer Setup Tool: Printers are discovered only through a hard- coded list of CUPS backends To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1115653/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1115669] [NEW] GNOME Printer Setup Tool: List of discovered printers should better describe duplicate entries
Public bug reported: When adding a printer a list of discovered printers is shown. If there are duplicate entries, for example if the same network printer is discovered with different network protocols (LPD, IPP, ...), these entries are usually grouped into one by using the D-Bus service of system-config-printer. system-config-printer groups entries coming from the network connection of the printer and groups entries coming from the USB connection of the printer, but it does not group network results with USB results, as system-config-printer separates them by a tree view. This means that when one connects one printer by both network and USB one gets two entries, one generated from all appearances under the discovered network printers and one from all appearances under the discovered USB printers (and if theis printer does Bluetooth there would be a third entry). Now the g-c-c printer tool lists these entries as model name model name-2 This way the user does not know which is the network printer and which is the USB printer. The results dhould look like model name (USB) model name (Network) To reproduce connect a printer with both network and USB (or Bluetooth) input by both network and USB, then try to set it up with the preferred connection type. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1115669 Title: GNOME Printer Setup Tool: List of discovered printers should better describe duplicate entries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1115669/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1115691] [NEW] GNOME Printer Setup Tool: While printer discovery is running, printer selection is returned to the first in the list many times
Public bug reported: When I add a new printer, first the printer discovery happens. An empty list appears and at the bottom a spinner is showing that some work is done, then in the list window at first the local (USB) printers appear and several seconds later the network printers. When I want to set up a local printer I click on it as soon as it appears and do not wait for the discovery process to finish. Now during the discovery process the list is updated every few seconds and whenever this happens the selection jumps back to the first entry in the list. If this happens between selecting the desired printer and clicking the OK button, the first entry in the list gets added and not the desired one. What has to be done is keeping the selection on the entry which the user has clicked all the time, also during the updates of the list, so that if the user clicks OK at any time the entry he has selected gets used. To reproduce, connect at least two local (USB) printers and have also at least one network or Bluetooth printer. Select the second local printer before the network and/or Bluetooth printers appear. Observe the list, after some seconds the selection goes back to the first entry. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1115691 Title: GNOME Printer Setup Tool: While printer discovery is running, printer selection is returned to the first in the list many times To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1115691/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1115701] [NEW] GNOME Printer Setup Tool: HP printers discovered by both usb and hp CUPS backends - Two indistinguishable entries in the list of discovered printers
Public bug reported: I have several HP printers. If I connect one of them via USB and click the + button to add a new printer in GNOME's printer setup tool, I get two entries where a user will not see the difference: HP-LaserJet-3390 HP-LaserJet-3390-2 To find out why I got two entries, I added two print queues, one using the first entry, another using the second entry. Then I ran the command lpstat -v and got device for HP-LaserJet-3390: usb://HP/LaserJet%203390?serial=00CNMJP81545 device for HP-LaserJet-3390-2: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_3390?serial=00CNMJP81545 So the first comes from the HP LaserJet 3390 discovered via the usb CUPS backend and the second from the same printer via the hp backend. The preferred backend is the latter, as it is made by HP especially for HP printers. Therefore there should be only one entry, using the hp backend. system-config-printer does this correctly, so usingf the D-Bus service of system-config-printer one should be able to join these entries to one using the hp backend. Note that this is not a duplicate of bug 1115669. [Bug 1115886] [NEW] Can't change wallpaper unless /org/gnome/desktop/background/show-desktop-icons is true.
Public bug reported: When I logged into my computer today, Unity wasn't showing my wallpaper. The first thing I tried was to go into the Appearance settings and change the wallpaper. At first, I was not able to make any changes to the wallpaper. Then I started tinkering around with dconf, just to see if I could find any settings that might interfere with the wallpaper. What I found was that /org/gnome/desktop/background/show-desktop-icons was set to false, but if I set it to true, then the regular Appearance settings panel was able to change the wallpaper. and again, if I set it back to false, then I was no longer able to change what wallpaper is used. Steps to reproduce: 1. Using dconf, set /org/gnome/desktop/background/show-desktop-icons to false 2. Using Gear menu - System Settings - Appearance, try to change the wallpaper. You can't. 3. Set show-desktop-icons back to true. 4. Change the wallpaper now -- it works. So, this is quite strange to me -- turning on show-desktop-icons doesn't actually render any icons on my desktop. It only enables the wallpaper switching to work. My best guess as to what is happening here is that show-desktop-icons really just means make nautilus render root window, and somehow I've stumbled onto a bug by which g-s-d can no longer render the wallpaper for itself, so turning on show-desktop-icons forces nautilus to take over, where it is successful in rendering the wallpaper. I couldn't replicate the problem of not being able to change the wallpaper, but toggling that setting causes problems with the fade animation of changing the wallpaper. I opened dconf-editor, and it looks like the box was unchecked by default (even though in gnome-tweak-tool, have file manager handle the desktop is on). I checked it to enable it (org.gnome.desktop.background .show-desktop-icons) then changed the wallpaper and it worked as expected. [Bug 1115944] [NEW] Unity hiding open LibreOffice files
Public bug reported: A small office that just converted to Ubuntu 12.10 is having problems with opening / finding open LibreOffice documents in Unity. The issue seems to be that if any arbitrary document is already open in LibreOffice, on any workspace, then clicking on the file in the file manager does nothing. The file is not opened in another instance. The running instance is not brought to the forefront. No error, warning, or notice is given. Absolutely no feedback is returned to the user, who might not be aware that another instance is running with the file already open. From conversations on the mailing list it seems that Unity does show a small symbol next to the LibreOffice icon when the document is clicked. This went completely unnoticed by the users of Ubuntu and by myself while trying to actually work with the system. In fact, one user had resorted to reseting the computer each time she needed to open a document that would not open. Please change the behaviour of Unity to bring the running LibreOffice instance to the forefront when the user clicks on a document that is already open. Now that I am trying to change it to unity by searching in the Choose... field I am getting the error: Too many matches. Please try to narrow your search. How could I narrow the search? So far as I know unity is the name of the problematic package, and the Choose... field is not showing me any alternatives or suggestions. ** Package changed: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) = unity (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1115944 Title: Unity hiding open LibreOffice files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1115944/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 874259] Re: shotwell crashed with SIGSEGV in photo_import_developed_backing_photo()
Hi, I reported the bug about two years ago and I'm not using the Oneiric anymore. I haven't seen that bug in the current Ubuntu 12.10 at all. But back then in 11.10 it happened very often. Unfortunately I can't check if the problem still persists as, like I said, I don't have that 11.10 anymore. At least it seems to be fixed in 12.10. -Timo 2013/2/5 Jim Nelson j...@yorba.org Can you reproduce this problem consistently, or did it only happen one time? It looks like you're running an old version of Shotwell on Oneiric. You might try upgrading your to 0.12.3 on our PPA: https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa Can you try that and see if the problem persists? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874259 Title: shotwell crashed with SIGSEGV in photo_import_developed_backing_photo() Status in “shotwell” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Problem occurred when I tried to import some photos from MMC card to hard drive via the inbuild MMC reader.
