[Bug 1058515] Re: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab

2014-11-24 Thread Anish Sane
If I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open Terminal, I get a fresh
terminal. This is sometimes what I want but sometimes not.
We can possibly have an array holding names of such variables, which need to be
'exported' to the new tab.
Or, we can have a checkbox in gnome-terminal menus, if we want to inherit
variables or not.
Or, we can have 2 separate menu items: new tab, new tabs with environment

Currently, I am using a dirty trick of writing them to a file in /tmp
via PROMPT_COMMAND then reading it via .bashrc. But it is clearly
inefficient error prone.

[Bug 1292113] Re: CTRL+ALT+T - shortcut to open Terminal is does not work

2014-11-24 Thread John
I suddenly have the same issue. The Keyboard-shortcut CTRL+ALT+T used
worked perfectly until now (using Ubuntu 14.04 with an xfce4-desktop).
But after a restart today this shortcut is ignored (even though it is
still listed in the configured shortcuts and all other shortcuts are
still working).

2014-11-24 Thread John
Addition: Shortcuts resume to work after logging out and logging back in again
by killing all processes with kill -9 -1.
However it was not possible to logout via the menue due to some still running
processes (maybe those open terminal commands I've called via
keyboard-shortcut but which weren't executed?). Possibly this is related

[Bug 1394633] Re: Problem with locale codeset UTF-8 vs. UTF8

2014-11-24 Thread Egmont Koblinger
This is definitely not a gnome-terminal bug. It's either the locale
system, or powertop.

The correct canonical value is LANG=en_US.UTF-8 with a hyphen. You're
better off using this one rather than anything else.

For figuring out what's going on with the locale system, you should use
the commands locale and locale charmap. If these return errors then
your settings are incorrect. If these return UTF-8 then it's a bug in
powertop (I assume it manually looks for the string UTF-8 in the
locale settings, rather than relying on the correct way of figuring it
out which is setlocale() followed by nl_langinfo(CODESET)).

[Bug 1395880] [NEW] System crashes (freezes) when I try to access the content of the /proc directory using nautilus

2014-11-24 Thread sotiris papadimitriou
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.10 (and 15.04) both on the installation on my computer as well as
on the LiveUSB, with the proprietary drivers installed for the wireless network
card, the system crashes (freezes) when I try to access the content of the
/proc directory using Nautilus, and I have to use the REISUB combination to
reboot. The same issue doesn't occur using pcmanfm regardless if the
proprietary drivers for the wireless network card are installed or not.
To reproduce this problem, one has to install the proprietary drivers for the
wireless network card and use nautilus at the same time. If the proprietary
drivers for the wireless network card are uninstalled, the issue doesn't occur
with nautilus.
-Wireless network card: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4365]

Thanks for the tip, Phasmus. Killing the process on 14.04 seems to help
my issue as well. Otherwise Empathy is downright unusable given its
wildly inconsistent behavior.
