[Bug 1542146] Re: Nautilus fails to preserve directory timestamp on move

2016-02-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1541954] Re: Revert to the previous nautilus version

2016-02-04 Thread Khurshid Alam
I simply do not welcome this decision. Are we going back to 3.14? 3.14
is even worse. Lots of crashes, bugs, absence of more critical features
(like absence of browse-network in the sidepane) etc. Upstream won't
fix those. 3.14 is basically dead.

As per issues with 3.18,
1. We can cherry pick those patches for 3.18. Sometimes leaving a comment in
bugzilla works and upstream does it for us.

2. True. Copy-speed is much slower now. But as per Carlos Soriano, any
improvements in this area will probably be back-ported for 3.18 as well.

3. Bug #1522316 provides patch which makes it identical to 3.14.
Upstream may introduce another zoom level which won't be too hard to
backport.

4. Background handling problems exist in 3.14 as well.

5. This is the only thing that needs rework.

And If we have to go back we can go back to 3.10 (if GTK requirement
satisfy) which trusty is using. At least it works much better than 3.14.

"NAUTILUS_CANVAS_ICON_SIZE_STANDARD 48" "STANDARD_ICON_GRID_WIDTH 155"
makes it exactly same as 3.14 IMHO. Not sure why Sebastien thinks its
too much spacious.

[Bug 1542146] [NEW] Nautilus fails to preserve directory timestamp on move

2016-02-04 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

Move a directory using mv and its mtime will be preserved. Move a
directory using Nautilus, and its mtime will be set to the time it was
moved. This is a bug.

Nautilus preserves mtime for file and directory copies as well as file
moves. Moveover, if the user attempts to move a directory that the user
does not have permission to delete (e.g. it is owned by another user), a
copy will be created with the correct mtime. This indicates that
Nautilus is taking an additional step that blats the mtime, but only on
moves, and only after they have already successfully created the
destination file.

all packages. I understand that this is a version still under development, but
precisely for that is that communicate errors, to have the most stable possible

[Bug 1542025] Re: Transition from upstart to systemd should honor /etc/init/*.override

2016-02-04 Thread Martin Pitt
Sorry, we are not going to implement an upstart parser into systemd,
and there is not even an 1-to-1 correspondence between upstart jobs and
systemd units. So this can only ever be a heuristics, and "working in
some cases" is worse (because not predictable) than "upstart overrides
don't affect systemd units".

The "right way" to disable something in an init system agnostic way is
"update-rc.d myservice disable". This will disable sysv init scripts,
upstart jobs, and systemd units. But it's not realistic to expect that
upstart and systemd can read each other's configuration files, sorry..

[Bug 1542025] [NEW] Transition from upstart to systemd should honor /etc/init/*.override

2016-02-04 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

While upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04, I noticed that all of my previously
disabled services got started again.

I disabled them by putting "manual" in e.g. /etc/init/isc-dhcp-
server.conf - which is the "right" way I think. Luckily, there was no
harm in my case, but this can put many people in risk by e.g. letting
starting server services which are then accessible outside or even
disrupt networks (like dhcp-servers). So in my oppinion the transition
to systemd should honor "manual" flags in .override files - or at least
warn if there are .override files.

[Bug 1538293] Re: [MIR] appstream

2016-02-04 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
It doesn't especially matter to me which packages make it to main or
not, but we shouldn't move packages around if they don't need to be.
Knowing what is affected also shows that there has been some work put in
preparing the MIR request.

As for the lintian warnings, no, it's not a blocker but they should also
be fixed if possible.

MIR approved.

[Bug 1541954] [NEW] Revert to the previous nautilus version

2016-02-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

The new nautilus is nice but needs some more work before being ready to
replace the old one.

Trying to document some of the reasons for the revert

- Some features have been removed that users seems to care about (upstream is
adding back some as options in 3.20)
- Upstream identified some usability issues with the new file copy dialog which
they are trying to address in 3.20
- The icon view canvas need more work to accomodate other zoom levels
- There are some annoying bugs that require work (symbols conflict between
gtkfileselector and local copy), desktop background handling problems, ...)
- It's not easy to add back a menubar and we would prefer to have one under
Unity for the LTS

The update is probably going to be worth doing next cycle but it was
decided in the desktop channel to revert for this cycle

[Bug 1541532] Re: migrate UTC setting from /etc/default/rcS to adjtime

2016-02-04 Thread Martin Pitt
Archive grep finished. I reviewed all matches of "default/rcS" and
"adjtime", notes are below. "rcSNOUTC" means "sources /etc/default/rcS,
but does not use UTC flag" (often uses VERBOSE, sometimes FSCKFIX)

These are the packages that need fixing:

installation-guide: drop our delta to revert docs to rcS
live-build: drop ubuntu-no-adjtime.patch
lupin: scripts/local-bottom/lupin_setup needs updating
mbr: install-mbr.c needs updating; affects Debian (#813671)
sysvinit: drop our delta of reverting adjtime migration
util-linux: adjust debian/util-linux.hwclock{,-save}.upstart; docs are already
adjtime

upstart: some hits in init/tests/data/*.json, unclear if affected

These packages aren't affected or already use adjtime (there's 11 of

[Bug 1541775] Re: wrong /run/lock permissions

2016-02-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 228-5ubuntu2

systemd (228-5ubuntu2) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Make-run-lock-tmpfs-an-API-fs.patch: Drop /run/lock from
tmpfiles.d/legacy.conf to avoid the latter clobbering the permissions of
/run/lock. Fixes fallout from cleanup in -5 that resulted /run/lock to
have 0755 permissions instead of 1777. (LP: #1541775)
