[Bug 1712390] Re: nautilus ubuntu 17.10 remove libunity dependency

2017-08-22 Thread Khurshid Alam
(Copied from bug comments:)

Ubuntu is going to ship Unity-7 to make the transition easier. Also Mate
is using hud and unity-gtk-module, xfce is using indicators and all (and
hence various unity dependency) and xfce also prefer titlebar instead of
headerbar. These patches made carefully so that it doesn't affect gnome-
shell anyway.

Gnome-apps designed was designed that way only for gnome. But they also
made a door if a distro wants to patch it back. (I personally, like
headerbar, but I can't impose my personal choice over everyone else.)

[Bug 1712390] [NEW] nautilus ubuntu 17.10 remove libunity dependency

2017-08-22 Thread Mike Neac
Public bug reported:

I was under impression that unity is gone from main support. So what is
with libunity dependency in nautilus 3.25? Version 3.24 was working fine
without it.

And nautilus(and probably others gnome apps) should be without those
headerbar/titlebar patches. Please leave it as it is. If someone wants
to use nautilus in other desktop it probably wants to use like it was
meant to be(I know you could use export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME, but
why force ugly, out of place title bar for gnome apps designed not to
use one...

gnome-applets source package in Zesty: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact]
Unnesessary work for the user as he is forced to clear the note from text in
order to delete it. It makes it more difficult that selecting text isn't
possible with mouse. [Test Case] - Write anything in a note - Try to select
text in a note - Try to delete it with 'x' or with 'delete notes' menu item
[Proposed Fix] The fix is a backport of three upstream commits: -
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-applets/commit/?id=85041d6567c78b4a
“sticky-notes: make sure that notes are really saved” -
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-applets/commit/?id=0c4e0c4fed0c61bf
“sticky-notes: fix path to resource file for delete dialog” -
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-applets/commit/?id=e189ba213c0f8db8
“sticky-notes: fix text selection” [Regression Potential] The fix definitely
improves the Sticky Notes applet because without ability to save notes that
applet is mostly unusable. It does not touch other applets so no regression
expected there. [Other Info] System configuration:

[Bug 1703110] Sticky notes

2017-08-22 Thread Roland Boros
Hi everyone,

Sticky Notes is such a useful tool I just can't do my work without it. But
haven't been able to get the latest version work because of my poor skills in
Linux. I managed to do a ton of stuff but everything is a first try.
Could you help me if this new fix doesn't work on my system or it is not even
installed properly.

I installed the latest proposed version of gnome-applets(3.22.0-2ubuntu0.2)
which has the latest Sticky Notes fixes.
But I'm not sure if I really installed it because it doesn't seem to work,
notes still can't be closed and text selected.
Here's a picture of Synaptic showing it's installed in the attachment.
I followed this and set selective upgrading for proposed packages. And I
installed the latest gnome-applets from terminal.

Cheers,
Roland

surely not enough.

[Bug 1712271] [NEW] ubuntu dock uses (some) settings from dashtodock

2017-08-22 Thread Rachel Greenham
Public bug reported:

Dash to dock already installed and in use in the past, configured to be
along the bottom of the screen. Trying out ubuntu dock (after turning
dash to dock off), it *also* sits along the bottom of the screen.
Changing the position setting in dash to dock's settings, even though
that extension was not enabled, fixed the problem. It looks like other
settings from dash to dock are also being used, and in addition it
changed *some* of dash to dock's settings from what they were before.
eg: it set it to panel mode, when it wasn't before. But of course it did
*not* change the position setting.

Ubuntu dock settings are expected to be non-user-modifiable and should
be independent of dash to dock's settings. (If you want the
customisability, use dash to dock properly.)

(dash to dock, in this case, is the one installed from the artful repos,
not from the gnome extensions site. It looks like being the same actual
version though.)

[Bug 1712244] Re: Default Window Action Key changed from Alt to Super

2017-08-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please clarify what you mean by "Window Action Key". What do you expect
such a feature to do? Also, are you comparing Gnome Shell to Unity, or
to a previous version of Gnome Shell.

As far as I can tell, Super is doing what Super should do in Gnome
Shell. Alt does nothing by itself. So if you're comparing Gnome Shell to
Unity then those are completely different features and should not use
Alt in Gnome Shell.
