[Bug 1752431] Re: Gnome Shell Wayland session crashes on startup - artful

2018-03-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. Sounds like the eglnative backend in mutter (provides Wayland
sessions) is crashing, which gdm/mutter I think will catch and handle by
itself. So perhaps no crash dump on startup is expected...

Maybe this is related:

  Feb 28 23:21:00 sam-Macmini gdm3[1054]: GdmDisplay: display lasted
0.251431 seconds

To progress this issue, next please report the problem to the mutter
developers here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues

and then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

To diagnose this problem we still need a crash file. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

3. Look in /var/crash for new crash files.
4. Run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

[Bug 1753658] [NEW] Xorg crash

2018-03-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Each time I turn my screen off I get logged out of my session. I have to
log in again and all my apps have been forcefully closed (Chrome
mentions it didn't close cleanly and offers me to restore my tabs, for
example).

This happens after 5 minutes of inactivity (I have the setting for
screen off at 5 minutes) and also when I turn off my screen by myself.

[Bug 1753576] Re: GDM freeze

2018-03-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Nish,

To figure the problem out you will need to be logged in already while
it's happening(!), so..

1. Log into a VT (Ctrl+Alt+F4) or install openssh-server and log in from a
separate machine.
2. Run 'top' to find the ID of the spinning process.
3. Run:
   kill -ABRT
4. Wait a while for crash files to be written.
5. Look in /var/crash for crash files and run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
6. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug.

[Bug 1751414] Re: [regression] Missing Wayland login option and missing GL acceleration, after installing libegl1

Yes, the workaround "sudo apt remove libegl1" was only safe in February.
Not safe after the mutter and mir updates in March :(

Thanks for fixing this.

Good to know about the add-ons package, been quite awhile here that I've
used it. Generally on new install I'm just trying to play media &
looking to see if the gst-packagekit > ubuntu-software reacts properly,
ect. (- which it's doing a decent job atm, always some room for
improvement..
I'd think many users also follow that path, i.e add or access media then
follow the pop up if support isn't already available.

[Bug 1753576] Re: GDM freeze

2018-03-05 Thread Nish Aravamudan
@vanvugt: no, as it's not crashed (afaict), it's just 100% cpu (based
upon fans). Numlock is still responsive as is sysrq, but i can't get to
any ttys (that is, ctrl+alt+f2, etc don't seem to work).

I even tried booting with 'text' and annoyingly gdm still started (I
might be misremembering how to do that, though).

Any suggestions on how to force a crash?

I might reboot now and just leave it to see if it eventually progresses.

Oh also the splash screen correctly displays on both monitors, so i
think it must be in X that the multiple displays fail.

I'll see if I can figure out how to get to a temrinal.

I think we would need a stack trace of the problem. Please do:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.
2. Open a terminal or log in to another VT (Ctrl+Alt+F4).
3. Reproduce the high CPU problem.
4. While the problem is occurring, run:

5. Look in /var/crash for the crash file.

No, I don't! My Wacom looks like this
http://101.wacom.com/UserHelp/en/TOC/CTL-4100wl.html

"About Wacom Intuos"

" >> Assign Settings in Wacom Tablet Properties" shows the stylus with
its two buttons

The tablet has 4 buttons, at each top corner, two on the left, two on
the right. If I press one of teh bottons, a menu appears, like "Show
onscreen help, assign keystroke, etc."

I'll attach screenshots from my Ubuntu with the next post.

[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-03-05 Thread Jason Gerecke
The "stylus not recognized" part of this issue is almost certainly
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=793499.

No access to the pad device on the other hand is not an issue I'm
familiar with. The old unity-control-center bug that OP linked do was
due to an issue with GNOME not being compatible with tablets whose pens
don't have an eraser. That issue was fixed in GNOME 3.16, however, and
shouldn't be present in the current version of the gnome-control-center.

I do see a reference to somebody else having similar pad issues upstream
at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789287 but it doesn't look
like anyone has begun to dig into the bug. My own (Arch Linux) system
doesn't exhibit the pad issue with an Intuos Art Medium (CTH-690) and
GNOME 3.26, for what its worth.

linuxcub: You should have both a "Stylus" and "Tablet" button at the top
of the Wacom control panel, next to "Test your Settings". The "Stylus"
button shows "Stylus not Recognized", but what message appears when the
"Tablet" button is pressed? Or are the buttons missing? That might give
a place to start digging...

I'm sorry for dumping the dmesg output into the thread. Here it is in a
file. But it's from after reboot. Does this have the error messages in
it from the previous session? Do I have to get a file from /var/log/ ?

[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-03-05 Thread linuxcub
My solution, sort of:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-control-center

Reboot, login into 'Gnome on xorg', Wacom now programmable with Settings
> Devices > Wacom Tablet

Log out, login on 'Ubuntu', now Ubuntu does it too :)

[Bug 1753477] Re: Turning off Alternative Toolbar makes the Plugins menu item unresponsive

2018-03-05 Thread fossfreedom
Its not an issue. Just close the app and restart.

Similarly when you first enable the plugin manually you have to start
the app again.

There isnt anything that can be done here since the plugin is altering
the appearance in such a way that cannot be switched on and off on-the-
fly.

[Bug 1753525] [NEW] Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-03-05 Thread linuxcub
Public bug reported:

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 18.04 developing branch as described for
Ubuntu 16.04 in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-control-center/+bug/1575887
I can draw, e.g., with tuxpaint, I can use stylus and graphic tablet "Wacom
Intuos Art Black Pen + Touch S" like a touchpad with mouse (left, muddle, right
button), but I cannot access the pad via Settings > Devices > Wacom Tablet:
"Stylus not recognized". So, no reprogramming of stylus buttons and tablet
buttons :(

Hopefully this will be resolved till the final version of 18.04 in
April?

[Bug 1727710] Re: Unable to access more than 20 languages in 1080p

2018-03-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
As regards installation of language packs I take it that we have two
options.

The best would be if the user could simply open the second Language
window and install from there. In that case the item list should
reasonably consist of language packs and not all the locales.

If there is not sufficient time to fix that in 18.04, I think we should
hide the second Language window as I propose in the MP and keep
providing language-selector-gnome for managing installed languages.

Actually, it appears like the Debian problem was because some users
hadn't updated their gnome-shell yet. Since Ubuntu 18.04 already has the
updated gnome-shell, let's let this last plugin in now.

[Bug 1753458] [NEW] [MIR] twolame

2018-03-05 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

Availability

Built for all supported architectures. In sync with Debian.

Rationale
=
For the 1.14 series, GStreamer upstream moved MP3 encoding and decoding into
gst-plugins-good. These are installed by default, and so now we can have MP3
support in the default install. The desktop team would like this feature.

For that, it uses some libraries and we'll need to put them in main.

Security

None reported so far.

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/twolame
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/twolame.html

Quality assurance
=
Desktop team is subscribed.

Bugs

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/twolame
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=yes=twolame

Dependencies

We need libtwolame0 in main, and this depends on libc6 only.

Standards compliance

4.1.0. Minimal rules. Tests are disabled. When I enable them the test wrapper
hangs indefinitely. We should look at that.

Maintenance
===
Desktop team will maintain. In Debian this is maintained by the multimedia
team, which is active. We don't envisage the package diverging from Debian.

** Affects: twolame (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1753450] [NEW] [MIR] mpg123

2018-03-05 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

gst-plugins-good. These are installed by default, and so now we can have MP3
support in the default install. The desktop team would like this feature.

Security

There are some CVEs in the history of the project.

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/mpg123
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/mpg123.html

The Ubuntu CVE page lists a 'needed' one which AFAICS is fixed in
1.25.8-1.

Quality assurance
=
Desktop team is subscribed.

Bugs

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpg123
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=yes=mpg123

Dependencies

We need libmpg123-0 in main, and this depends on libc6 only.

Standards compliance

4.1.2. debian/rules is slightly complicated because it generates some wrapper
scripts for some old binary names. Those binaries don't go in a package that we
need in main.

Maintenance
===
Desktop team will maintain. In Debian this is maintained by the multimedia
team, which is active. We don't envisage the package diverging from Debian.

ones in Debian they are duplicates and should be fixed already.

Bugs

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lame

I think they are reasonably calm given that this is a well known
project.

Standards compliance

4.1.1 and dh minimal style rules.
