[Bug 1715602] Re: ubiquity-dm / Install Ubuntu - Power button does nothing

2018-05-21 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
On bug LP: #771719: it's said "Pressing the power button should not
start the shutdown sequence once the installer has started writing files
to the disk."

IMHO:

Option 1: "Remove / Hide power button as installer has started writing
files to the disk".

Option 2: "Prompt user that system will in a no-working state if he
insist to power down or reboot. So that user can decide what he really
want."

[Bug 1772557] [NEW] FREETYPE_PROPERTIES environment variable is not respected

2018-05-21 Thread 丁卓成
Public bug reported:

As stated by the Freetype documentation, I should be able to use
`FREETYPE_PROPERTIES` to control some options such as whether TrueType
fonts are hinted using Hinting Engine v35 or v40, or whether stem
darkening for CFF(i.e. OpenType PostScript Flavor) fonts are enabled. I
think this should work in everything that uses FreeType, but apparently
it doesn't work in Gnome-Terminal. It does work in xterm, and even
xfce4-terminal, which also uses libVTE to provide terminal emulation.

Actual Results:
`FREETYPE_PROPERTIES` doesn't take effect.

Expected Results:
Should work as in xterm or xfce4-terminal.

Additional Information:
I'm on Ubuntu 18.04, with gnome-terminal 3.28.1. The correctly working
xfce4-terminal's version is 0.8.7.3.

It looks like the cause is the HTTP chunk handling. Testing of this code
showed a couple of buffer overruns, which are now fixed in snapd-glib

I look a quick look at your posted data. It does seem odd that your
system starts out configuring the drm and then uses fb. Do you have
anything custom on your boot line, like some video parameters? E.g.
'cat /proc/cmdline'. More grabbing at straws.

2018-05-21 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
Well, this sounds like a different problem. The problem I reported was
very clearly the result of an incomplete package upgrade/removal
resulting in a failed test for unity compatibility leading to setting
that environment variable for software gl.

You might consider opening an new bug report with a complete system
info. E.g. you didn't report your video chipset, but I have heard that
there are nuances with nvidia.

I'm not an expert, but you might want to see if you can gain some
insight from the output of 'journalctl -b0'.

E.g. is your system using the framebuffer driver "fbcon: xxx" or "[drm]
..." during boot up?

In the 'journalctl -b0' output I posted above, you can see that it's
using the frame buffer. That is what lead me to track down system
configuration issues.

[Bug 1772406] [NEW] Opening multiple .jpg files from nautilus results in multiple instances of Image-viewer

2018-05-21 Thread paul janssen
Public bug reported:

In case multiple images, say n *.jpg images, are selected in nautilus and then
opened with Image-viewer:
- 16.04 opens one instance of eog to view the selected images (=Image-viewer
app)
- 18.04 opens n instances of eog, one for each image. This is not correct, it
should behave like in 16.04.
I tried behavior of opening muliple files from nautilus with another app.
In 18.04 opening multiple .avi files with the vlc app, only one vlc instance
was opened (like in 16.04)

[Bug 1715435] Re: Can't lock screen with keyboard shortcuts when using lightdm

2018-05-21 Thread Anders Hall
Confirm (Super - L) not working on Ubuntu 18.04, switching keyboard
language does not work either most of the time (Super + Space). Those I
use the most. Extremely annoying after some time, especially when using
dual screens (since the Gnome top bar is only on one monitor which is
even more annoying: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1682542).

Worked fine in Ubuntu 17.10 with Gnome and previous versions with Unity.

[Bug 1772365] Re: gnome-shell + chrome doing nothing consumes 60%+ CPU all the time

2018-05-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think this is probably expected for now.

Chrome using significant CPU when tabs are open on non-trivial pages is
expected.

And Gnome Shell using noticeable CPU when any window is updating is a
known issue, but really a whole class of bugs. For a list of known
causes (subject to change), see https://trello.com/c/pe5mRmx7

[Bug 1772365] [NEW] gnome-shell + chrome doing nothing consumes 60%+ CPU all the time

2018-05-21 Thread Vanya
Public bug reported:

This is somewhat similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-shell/+bug/1696305

After a few cycles of suspend, working with external monitor, running
Chrome with 10+ opened tabs causes gnome-shell and chrome to use 60% of
CPU just idling. When I do some more active work - it consumes even
more. My laptop is hot all the time.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, actually it is arguably worse with version 3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1

The problem with that version is that you can't log in more than once
without encountering a new login screen freeze, that is unlike this one.

Not sure if we want to continue with version 3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1 and deal
with that separately or call it a blocker.

I have verified this bug is fixed on bionic using version

However I have also verified what the above comments allude to, in that
there are also other login bugs we will need to deal with later.
