[Bug 1767654] Re: Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen

2018-10-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

I've just noticed that gnome-shell sometimes seems to place the cursor
slightly offscreen by a couple of pixels. This works fine on my machine,
but it's possible your graphics driver can't handle a negative cursor
position, so you only see it in the last position that was positive (a
few pixels away from the edge).

I will need to get hold of a machine with a similar CPU/GPU to test that

  Running startx starts X just fine, but at login I just get a blank
  screen with a blinking cursor. If I hit Alt+F I can get a console
  which allows me to login and run 'startx' at which point Gnome starts
  normally after entering my keychain unlock password.

2018-10-17 Thread Andrew Schulman
> Disabling the key "/org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-lock-screen" in
dconf-editor solved the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by disabling. If you mean set it to false,
false is already the default value. It was at its default for me. I
tried overriding it and setting it to false, but that didn't help. So
this solution doesn't work for me.

[Bug 1798481] [NEW] org.gnome.desktop.interface.cursor-blink-timeout not honored

2018-10-17 Thread Steve Stevenson
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu desktop 18.04.1

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

gnome-terminal: 3.28.2-1ubuntu1~18.04.1
libgtk-3-0: 3.22.30-1ubuntu1
dconf-editor: 3.28.0-1

Per workaround instructions in comment #8 on bug 838381 (of which this is not a
duplicate), I set /org/gnome/desktop/interface/cursor-blink-timeout to a large
value, less than the stated maximum of 2^31 - 1.
I saved the change, exited dconf-editor and restarted the computer.

What I expected to happen:
Cursor in GTK-based terminal emulators will no longer stop blinking after 10
seconds.

What happens instead:
Cursor in GTK-based terminal emulators continues to stop blinking after 10
seconds.

Of note, the cursor-blink-time *is* honored.

[Bug 1754864] Re: Flatpak related refs are not installed when using GNOME Software on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-10-17 Thread Andrew Hayzen
@Robert, will you be generating a debdiff for the gnome-3-28 branch when
it's ready? (I see you are making other changes and I'm not familiar how
you are taking the git repo and turning the changes into debian
patches).

Also I see that 3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.4 [0] is currently stuck [1] in
bionic-proposed as bug 1756379 has not been verified. I guess that this
should be done before pushing the next release through :-)

[Bug 838381] Re: The cursor in active terminal window stops blinking after ten seconds.

2018-10-17 Thread Steve Stevenson
I'd like to report that the workaround suggested in comment #8 has no
effect in Xubuntu 18.04. It seems the native xfce4-terminal is also
affected. I thought I'd solve the issue by switching to a terminal that
isn't built on GTK so I installed Eterm, only to learn that not only
does the cursor not blink by default in Eterm, but there is in fact no
way to enable cursor blinking. When did the world decide that cursor
blinking is a cancer to be eradicated from the face of the earth?

[Bug 1798470] [NEW] gnome-software can't handle composite CAB files

2018-10-17 Thread Mario Limonciello
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Double clicking a composite CAB file containing multiple firmware files
displays an error message in gnome-software.

This prevents installing composite firmware CAB files via a GUI unless
they come from LVFS.

[Test Case]

 * Double click a composite CAB file
 * Make sure that it display in gnome software

[Regression Potential]

 * Regression potential is low. The new code paths are only run when
processing a CAB file with multiple payloads.

[Bug 1798426] [NEW] Nautilus leaks memory for each recent engine search

2018-10-17 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

Nautilus leaks memory when a search is performed on recent files
manager, both for the query itself and the recent item that is checked.

Also on destruction, it might happen that nautilus double-unref an
object.

[ Test case ]

1. Search something from gnome-shell overview or nautilus itself
2. Monitoring memory usage should not change too much
3. Nautilus should not crash on close.

[ Regression potential ]

Search on recent files doesn't return anything.

This is not fixed, I can still reproduce the issue by opening the

Checking the gnome-software version on today's ISO, it did change, and
is at 3.30.2-0ubuntu4. I can't tell from the changelog, or patch
description in the new version, if it was the change that fixed it.

[Bug 1798053] Re: Click on the back icon in gnome-software don't work

2018-10-17 Thread Ross Gammon
Today (after previous ISO rebuild), gnome-software allowed me to install
a snap (picard this time), and after installation the buttons changed to
launch, remove etc. I was able to launch the application, and after I
quit it, the back button in gnome-software took me to the front page.

Either it was a glitch, or something was fixed for this release
candidate.

[Bug 1771031] Re: Please remove libgnome from Ubuntu

2018-10-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** No longer affects: stardict (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

  libgnome has been removed from Debian Testing and will not be included
  in the Debian 10 "Buster" release. We should do the same. If we do it
  now, maybe some projects will do the needed porting work away from
  libgnome (porting to gtk3 is probably needed) in time for Ubuntu 20.04
  LTS or Debian 10. Users who are hurt by these removals can keep using
  Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for a few years.

  This bug depends on these other removals:
  gnome-python LP: #1739800
  gnome-sharp2 LP: #1771025
- shutter LP: #1771030
+ DONE: shutter LP: #1771030

[Bug 1798236] Re: xubuntu 18.10 daily (x86 live & installed) - [gnome-]software cannot install leafpad/gedit/software

2018-10-17 Thread Chris Guiver
I tried on my primary box (ubuntu 18.10 [x86_64] with xfce, lxqt & mate
desktops added; xfce my usual).

When `gnome-software` was run from [whisker] menu, I got a "Unable to
install ...: you do not have permission to install software" when trying
to install a font (leafpad & gedit were already installed)

I `sudo gnome-software` and font installed with no issues.

I booted xubuntu on dx6120 & tried from terminal as before (gnome-
software), then `sudo gnome-software) getting same error as prior
attempts both tries :(

[Bug 1789356] Re: Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation

2018-10-17 Thread Didier Roche
Fixed in https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/commit/?id=ddc4f511abd64d69c1150a41475d0a1ebac01dbb

** Description changed:

- Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly (for a split second)
- during the login animation.
+ [Impact]

- The login screen and gnome-shell's system background are meant to be the
- same image so that the login procedure can VT switch without the user
- noticing. Then the final desktop expands over the system background.
- However it appears the login background and system background are not
- the same image any more, causing a visible glitch during login.
+ Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly (for a split second) during
the login animation.
+ The login screen and gnome-shell's system background are meant to be the same
image so that the login procedure can VT switch without the user noticing. Then
the final desktop expands over the system background. However it appears the
login background and system background are not the same image any more, causing
a visible glitch during login.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Install new version, logout
+ 2. Log in into GDM
+ -> Check that at login startup, the background matches GDM ones (same color,
same gradient)
+ 3. Logout, install gnome-session
+ 4. Reboot so that GDM takes gnome-session into account
+ 5. Select GNOME session and login
+ -> At login startup, the background will matche the GNOME default one (from
the lockscreen: grey noise), which matches GDM one if reset to default GNOME
via update-alternatives.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ This code is loaded at session startup, if there is a syntax error, the
session wouldn't start at all.
+ This has been of course tested before committed (both on ubuntu and GNOME
sessions)

[Bug 1789356] [NEW] Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation

2018-10-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly (for a split second)
during the login animation.

The login screen and gnome-shell's system background are meant to be the
same image so that the login procedure can VT switch without the user
noticing. Then the final desktop expands over the system background.
However it appears the login background and system background are not
the same image any more, causing a visible glitch during login.

searched & tried to install 'leafpad'

[Bug 1798236] Re: xubuntu 18.10 daily (x86 live & installed) - [gnome-]software cannot install leafpad/gedit/software

2018-10-17 Thread Will Cooke
I installed xubuntu in to a VM from the latest ISO and could use G-S as
expect and could install leafpad ok. I'll do more testing.

[Bug 1798236] Re: xubuntu 18.10 daily (x86 live & installed) - [gnome-]software cannot install leafpad/gedit/software

2018-10-17 Thread Iain Lane
I just tried to reproduce this with xubuntu 20181017. I couldn't - see
the attached screenshot.

One difference is that I was using amd64 and not i386.

[Bug 1797322] Re: gsd-rfkill-manager fails to receive rfkill event

2018-10-17 Thread ethan.hsieh
@Sebastien

The patch has been merged. Could you help to land it to bionic? Thanks~

commit a5514ae097e5881df3ef26c63f4f4652b3f77811
Author: Ethan Hsieh
Date:   Tue Oct 9 10:28:31 2018 +0800

rfkill: set encoding as NULL

The default encoding for GIOChannel is UTF-8, but rfkill event is binary
data. If the value is invalid UTF-8, gsd-rfkill-manager will fail to
receive rfkill event.

[Bug 1798318] [NEW] After installing and deinstallig a language, it is left behind in the LANGUAGE system variable

2018-10-17 Thread GunChleoc
Public bug reported:

After removing an installed language that was previously selected, it's
still defined in the system. This leads to many UI elements and software
applications picking the previously installed language if there is no
translation available for the currently selected language.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open GNOME Settings
2. Install the Deutsch language pack
3. Select it as your system language & locale
4. Apply settings
5. Pick a different language and uninstall the Deutsch language pack
6. Reboot

This is the result with `gd` as my usual language/locale:

$ locale
LANG=gd_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=gd:de_DE:en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE="gd_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_TIME=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="gd_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="gd_GB.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_NAME=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=gd_GB.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

Notice the `LANGUAGE=gd:de_DE:en_GB:en` bit that should read
`LANGUAGE=gd:en_GB:en` instead.

I also noticed that after switching the language back to `gd` while
keeping the `de` locale, part of the UI was still in `de`, including the
"Manage Installed Languages" button, while other parts were in `gd`.
That's probably the same bug and a symptom of the incomplete translation
coverage for `gd`.

I managed to manually sort of fix it by running sudo update-locale
LANGUAGE=gd:en_GB:en as explained in
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1083868/how-to-set-language-in-locale-
permanently/1084062#1084062. However, it will regress every time I
"Manage Installed Languages" -> "Apply System-wide". See attached
screenshot for the result.

[Bug 561370] Re: gnome-terminal transparency no longer works reliably (usually opaque, but sometimes shows transparency)

2018-10-17 Thread John Roberts
Still apparent in 18.04. The workaround posted by 'priv' above to change
the settings in gnome-terminal does work.

[Bug 1715435] Re: Can't lock screen with keyboard shortcuts when using lightdm

2018-10-17 Thread Christian Geiger
I had the same problem on ubuntu 18.04. Disabling the key
"/org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-lock-screen" in dconf-editor solved
the problem.
