it's easier to send the report by clicking on the .crash from nautilus
or using the ubuntu-bug command than doing screenshots of it...

You instructed me to make any further comments on the other report, but
I think that it is possible that bug 1804718 is not a duplicate because
I cannot open the applications; it only plays the animation. I may be
wrong, but I'll post more screenshots so you can see. It's possible my
memory is a little off, because a lot of other unrelated issues have
occurred so I think the images are most accurate.

[Bug 1763892] Re: 144Hz/120Hz monitor but mutter seems to cap rendering at 60FPS

2018-11-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah this bug started out as just being about Wayland so I don't feel
comfortable making this bug just about the Xorg case now.

There is a solution though. Just add the Wayland fix in:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/171

It may require some backporting to 3.30 as of recently, but I am happy
to do so.

[Bug 1804718] [NEW] Lock screen does not appear when screen locks

2018-11-22 Thread Talib Pierson
Public bug reported:

When I close the laptop lid, the screen locks, but when I start it up again,
instead of prompting me to enter my password at the lock screen, I appear to be
back in, even though I am not. The glitched session seems in between a vanilla
gnome session and my Ubuntu session. I can try to open applications with the
Ubuntu dock, but they will not open. The top bar doesn't have a log out or
settings, more like vanilla gnome in Debian. Sometimes white pixels will appear
at the top edge of the screen near this area. Sometimes the lock screen will
appear, but not as usual. The Ubuntu dock appears even though I haven't entered
my passcode yet. I should send screenshots. I wasn't always able to take
successful screenshots, but I have some. I don't believe this to be much of a
security issue, because I don't appear to be able to open any applications,
although it does show what files I have on my desktop. I am using a system76
laptop.

I expected a lock screen to prompt me to enter my password. Instead, it was
either missing, or it displayed along with the Ubuntu dock, which shouldn't
display on top of the lock screen. I also appeared to be using a modified gnome
session, even though ubuntu-session, but not gnome-session, is installed. I've
reinstalled ubuntu-session and ubuntu-desktop already. I know for sure this is
within the scope of ubuntu-desktop, because when I installed Kubuntu it stopped
happening. When I uninstalled kubuntu and reinstalled Ubuntu, it started
happening again. I've uninstalled some default packages, but noting
ubuntu-session depends on, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
gnome-power-manager is not installed, but I don't think it needs to be. It
reminds me of the issues linked below:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713640
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingScreenLocking/HowScreenLockingWorks#GNOME_Power_Manager
https://askubuntu.com/questions/453296/privacy-issue-when-waking-up-suspended-machine
Except logging in does not seem to work properly, and will log me into what
seems to be a gnome session, with all the application icons changed, and all
that.

[Bug 1758653] Re: gvfsd[1366]: mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied

2018-11-22 Thread Maarten Jacobs
Oddly enough, this problem started for me after I mounted a NFS volume
using autofs.

Not quite sure how that relates to samba - but it may mean something.

In response to David Spoelstra's comment. I meant to follow his
direction but accidentally installed samba-common (rather then samba-
common-bin).

Both packages appear to create /var/cache/samba, which resolves the
problem experienced by gvfsd.

I tried to track down the actual code mentioned in the error, but it
doesn't seem to exist anywhere on the filesystem.

[Bug 1740599] Re: Selecting multiple files and dragging them to file manager is broken in a Wayland session

2018-11-22 Thread Ubfan
Ubuntu 18.04 Wayland, Select a desktop file icon and drag it to the
nautilus window. When the icon touches the window, it jumps back to the
original starting point, the cursor remains a hand, and can no longer
move the icon, which is still highlighted. No other icon may be
highlighlited, clicking on the backbround does not remove the
highlighting, and the cursor remains a hand over other applications like
firefox (but over nautilus or system things like launcher, screen
title,... it becomes an arrow). This comment box may be selected with
the hand, but the cursor clicks no longer reposition the insertion
point. Logging out fixes the problem. Closing nautilus does not.

[Bug 1804685] Re: icon view captions display in the wrong positions

2018-11-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1804693] [NEW] Copy problem with small files from shares mounted with libpam-mount

2018-11-22 Thread Alexandre Neveux
Public bug reported:

Dear all,

With a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04.1 and libpam-mount, I encounter
issue when I copy small text files of few octets from remote share to
local host with nautilus.

More exactly, when I paste the file from a mounted remote samba share
to a local directory, nautilus reports a time of transfer of
approximatively 596523 hours! The process keep locked and I need to
killall nautilus to terminate the copy.

It seems that nautilus is unable to "understand" the end of copy
because the file is well copied from remote to local directory and is
usable.

Can you resolve this issue please ?

Kind regards.

[Bug 1804685] [NEW] icon view captions display in the wrong positions

2018-11-22 Thread Dan Green
Public bug reported:

In the Preferences for Nautilus, under the Views tab, the user has the
option to select information to appear in the "First", "Second", and
"Third" position beneath icons. However, in icon view, whatever the
user selects to appear in the "First" position will appear in the second
location beneath the icon. Whatever the user selects to appear in the
"Second" position will appear in the third, or bottom, position.
Whatever the user selects to appear in the "Third" position will appear
in the first, or top, position.

Nautilus 3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.2

[Bug 1763892] Re: 144Hz/120Hz monitor but mutter seems to cap rendering at 60FPS

2018-11-22 Thread Iain Lane
I should say:

> We are proposing taking the version of mutter from disco for an SRU,
and it has the above patch.

For that this bug needs to be considered to be fixed in the development
release, and fixed by the SRU.

If we split it into "wayland" and "Xorg" halves, we could do that.

I know the bug was initially reported as a Wayland bug though, so it is
slightly annoying to do that. Hopefully you will be OK with overlooking
that, and making this the Xorg bug.

[Bug 1803230] Re: [MIR] teckit & xxhash, new rdeps of texlive-bin

2018-11-22 Thread Matthias Klose
this looks ok, besides the missing test run. The debian/rules file says:

  # not to be run, removes compiled files
  override_dh_auto_test:

So probably this should be run as an autopkg test with the build-
required restriction.

[Bug 1804641] [NEW] [SRU] 1.54.3

2018-11-22 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

Description
---

Update cosmic from 1.54.1 to 1.54.3. This will be a no-change backport
from disco. There are some changes in debian/, but I think they should
be OK.

NEWS. The upstream changes are covered by
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME:

Version 1.54.3
--

- Closed bugs and merge requests:
  * object: Fix write-only properties [!246, Philip Chimento]
  * SIGSEGV when exiting gnome-shell [#212, !247, Andrea Azzarone]
  * SelectionData.get_targets crashes with "Unable to resize vector" [#201,
!241, Philip Chimento]
  * Gnome-shell crashes on destroying cached param specs [#213, !240, Marco
Trevisan]
  * GType memleak fixes [!244, Marco Trevisan]
  * Fix build with --enable-dtrace and create CI job to ensure it doesn't break
in the future [#196, !253, Philip Chimento]

Version 1.54.2
--

- Closed bugs and merge requests:
  * context: Defer and therefore batch forced GC runs [performance] [!236,
Daniel van Vugt]
  * context: use timeout with seconds to schedule a gc trigger [!239, Marco
Trevisan]
  * fundamental: Check if gtype is valid before using it [!242, Georges Basile
Stavracas Neto]

- Backported a fix for a crash in the interactive interpreter when executing
something like `throw "foo"` [Philip Chimento]

- Backported various maintenance from 3.31 [Philip Chimento]

Test Case
-
GNOME Shell is written in gjs so let's test GNOME Shell. After installing the
update, reboot.

Also check some of these apps:
gnome-characters
gnome-documents
gnome-maps
gnome-sound-recorder
gnome-sushi
gnome-weather
polari

All of them except for gnome-sound-recorder and polari are included in
Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu Budgie.

Regression Potential

Well if gjs has a problem, it could leave Ubuntu GNOME users unable to log in
to their computer at all since gdm uses part of gnome-shell to work. But I did
test build, install and reboot before uploading this update to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1796238] Re: [SRU][regression] mozjs60 crashes with SIGSEGV on gnome-shell exit, in GetPropertyOperation() from Interpret() from js::RunScript()

2018-11-22 Thread Iain Lane
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
gnome-shell crashes on shutdown and on `gnome-shell --replace`. A proper fix
for `gnome-shell --replace` requires mutter 3.30.2-1 too.

  [Test Case]
- Covered by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME
+ Given https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME, we don't need to
explicitly test this fix, but the SRU will be more generally verified by the
testing outlined in bug #1804641.

  [Regression Potential]
The new stable version of gjs includes changes to fix random crashes when a
gjs application is closed. Possible regressions are leaks and other crashes but
none has been observed until now.

  ---

mozjs60 crashes on gnome-shell exit (didn't happen with mozjs52 which
  was still the latest yesterday)

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start gnome-shell (master)
  2. Super+A to show applications
  3. Alt+F2 and type "debugexit" to exit cleanly.

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2018-11-22 Thread William
I registered just to post on this bug report.
I'm a dev trying to switch over to Linux and I chose Ubuntu assuming it would
be the most functionable distro in 2018.
However I simply cannot make the transition until type-as-you-go search +
indexing is not working just like on macos in 2013 and even now on windows 10.

2018-11-22 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Oh, I'm wrong about search_thread_add_hits_idle, as the object is ref'ed
before the idle callback is added. Which is a bit strange, but works
(I'd provide a search_hits_data_free that unrefs the -> recent and just
use that on the entire search_hits).

The recent_thread_func clearly is an oversight though.

2018-11-22 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The bug seems to be wrong reference counting of the
NautilusSearchEngineRecent, and both search_thread_add_hits_idle and
recent_thread_func have been changed in the last upload to have code
that looks like this:

search_thread_add_hits_idle:
g_autoptr (NautilusSearchEngineRecent) self = search_hits->recent;

recent_thread_func:
g_autoptr (NautilusSearchEngineRecent) self = NAUTILUS_SEARCH_ENGINE_RECENT
(user_data);

however, recent_thread_func (unlike search_thread_add_hits_idle) did not
lose the g_object_unref (self); at the end so it decrements once more
than it did before.

I do think search_thread_add_hits_idle is wrong as well, and needs to be
  g_autoptr (NautilusSearchEngineRecent) self =
g_object_ref(search_hits->recent);
or just
  NautilusSearchEngineRecent *self = search_hits->recent;

as you are just providing an alias to that field, so why are you
decrementing it once every time you call this function?

[Bug 1804467] Re: gnome-shell: stray configure notify event

2018-11-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

+
When unmapping X11 client, Gnome sends a stray configure notify event,
where 'y' has been moved up by the height of the window decoration.
  Originally reported here: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-71671

From xtrace output I see that gnome re-parents the window to the root
window and mistakenly adjusts 'y' coordinate. There are no plausible
reasons why WM should change window's coordinates when unmapping.
