[Bug 1889998] Re: Settings > Power suggests wifi "can" be turned off not "will" be turned off

2020-08-02 Thread Samee
Oh, that's slightly disappointing. Feel free to close this then. My
2-cent suggestion will be to replace those buttons completely with just
a caption directing the user to other parts of the control panel. It's a
bit confusing to have this button here given a more prominent section
for enabling/disabling wifi and bluetooth already exists in the panel
(and outside, in the indicator).

If I want to file a feature request to add the feature I was looking for,
should I file a separate issue? The feature being to introduce a way to disable
automatically disconnecting the wifi when laptop is idle.

I'll still need to figure out if this requires support from
NetworkManager, or if it already exposes an interface. I'll leave this
link here for anyone who wants to investigate further:
https://gist.github.com/jcberthon/ea8cfe278998968ba7c5a95344bc8b55

FWIW, the feature seems to have a modest demand given 56 stars on the
linked github gist.

[Bug 1889998] Re: Toggling wifi power-management also toggles wifi connection

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This looks like just a poorly designed GUI. It suggests that wifi "can"
be turned off when it should probably say this "will" turn off wifi
immediately.

So I don't think there's any functional bug here. Just a GUI design
issue.

[Bug 1890001] Re: Random stuttering while in game

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds similar to bug 1883456... Please:

1. Try opening the 'Extensions' app and disable 'Ubuntu AppIndicators'.
Does that fix it?

2. Run 'top' and tell us if any process is using high CPU.

3. Run the following commands after you have experienced the issue:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like you're referring to a dock button. So that we can find
out more about the system please run:

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and then attach the resulting text file.

Please also attach a screenshot of the issue/button/menu if you can.
Just press PrtScn and look in the Pictures folder.

[Bug 1890001] [NEW] Random stuttering while in game

2020-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Updated kernel to 5.7.12 and updated nvidia driver to 450 yesterday but
only experiencing this today.

Random stuttering while playing minecraft, no clue what's causing it but
I checked system monitor and it shows random spikes of a cpu thread to
100% and some spikes staying at 100% for a prolonged period.

It may be related to me updating my video driver that is not recommended
so I will see if switching down will resolve the issue. I never had
this issue on driver 440.

[Bug 1889991] [NEW] Highlight for the task switcher is too subtle

2020-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The task switcher has a highlight to enable the user to see which task
has focus. In Ubuntu 20.04 (but not earlier versions, I think) this
highlight is so subtle that one can easily miss it.

I'm all for subtlety, but this is *too* subtle. I find myself repeatedly
choosing the wrong task.

My vision is not perfect but decent. Users with poor vision may find
this problem particularly difficult.

[Bug 1875528] Re: Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

Yes I'm on 20.04 now and the issue produces the exact same result seen
in the photograph when it goes to sleep. This bug is the only reason I
can't use ubuntu daily currently.

[Bug 1889686] Re: [focal] [nvidia] Patch causes small text: x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I see now. It's hard to judge by screenshots because the shrinkage is
not dramatic.

And in case anyone is wondering the affected version was mutter
3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1pop1~1594405059~20.04~8e2b857

Obviously we would like to fix this but it might be difficult if there
is no way to reproduce it in regular Ubuntu. Looks like some kind of
interaction between Pop!OS patches and the Ubuntu patch.

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #37 suggested the fix for bug 1874567 does not work for this
one. But maybe the final fix will. Rather than asking people here to
test a proposed package I suggest just waiting until the fix for bug
1874567 is formally released to updates (soon). Then the status of this
bug will be more clear.

Hi, even with the extension disabled, launcher still appears on the
wrong screen. Also, this is somewhat random, it was working for several
days and after reconnecting / disconnecting monitor, this issue is back.
I am attaching a photo. Thanks!

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

Regarding bug mentioned in Side note 2 of
#20 Comment

I face the same issue, and am able to fix it via the fractional scaling method.
I was able to reproduce this over two separate clean installs on my machine.

Also following #20 comment helped solved the display rotating issue.
Thank you devs for the fix.
Regards
