[Bug 1785060] Re: Evince cannot open cbr-files based on rar v5

2020-09-22 Thread linuxcub
"Expired" is a bad change! With Ubuntu 18.04 I could read any CBR file with
Evince. Just installed Ubuntu 20.04 and Evince cannot do it any more!
I have a workaroud, but is this necessary to install Kubuntu's okular? These
are quite some packages!
Does "expired" mean, I will never be able to read some CBR files with evince?

Thanks, siggi2

[Bug 1887425] [NEW] php files now open by default in Chrome

2020-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Until at least 16.04, php files used to open by default in Gedit.

I'm talking about when you double click on them in Nautilus (or the
first "open with " options that shows up in the right-click
menu)

After I upgraded to 20.04 (not sure in which version the change was),
now they open by default in Google Chrome. (I guess they open in the
default browser which in my case is Chrome).

This is a stupid default. Do I need to explain to you that php files are
executed on the server? Opening them in a browser makes no sense in
99.99% of cases. When one opens a php file locally, the most likely
scenario is that you are opening it in order to edit it.

So if you had switched from gedit to some other text editor I could
understand it, but opening it in the browser by default is an idiotic
default for php files.

I upgraded because I was sick of running age-old versions of almost
every program, most no longer supported and full of bugs that were fixed
years ago upstream, but I'm astonished at the amount of regressions and,
worse, idiotic design decisions that have either been taken either with
the specific purpose of making things worse, or were taken by idiots
that didn't put the slightest amount of thought in it.

Fucking unbelievable. Every major release of Ubuntu is a step backwards.
Mostly because of Gnome.

[Bug 1896367] Re: package ubuntu-software 3.36.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.0 failed to install/upgrade: problemas de dependencias - se deja sin configurar

2020-09-22 Thread Avital Ostromich
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1857824] [NEW] kmimetypefinder5 misidentifies mimetype of python files containing certain strings

2020-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Expected behavior:

$ kmimetypefinder5 example.py
text/x-python3

or

$ kmimetypefinder5 example.py
text/x-python

or

$ kmimetypefinder5 example.py
text/plain

Actual behavior:

$ kmimetypefinder5 example.py
application/xhtml+xml

Summary: Python scripts with a string containing HTML can be
misidentified as HTML files by kmimetypefinder5.

For example, this python script is identified as
"application/xhtml+xml":

#! /usr/bin/env python3
example_string = \
"""\
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd;>
http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml;>

Example title

Example body

"""
print('Hello, world!')

This difficulty is not shared by other mimetype identification tools.

$ kmimetypefinder5 example.py
application/xhtml+xml
$ cat example2.py #! /usr/bin/env python3
print('Hello, world!')
$ kmimetypefinder5 example2.py
text/x-python3
$ mimetype 'example.py'
example.py: text/x-python
$ mimetype 'example2.py'
example2.py: text/x-python
$ file --mime-type 'example.py'
example.py: text/plain
$ file --mime-type 'example2.py'

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mutter - 3.38.0-1ubuntu1

---
mutter (3.38.0-1ubuntu1) groovy; urgency=medium

  * Merge with debian, including new upstream stable release, remaining changes:
- debian/gbp.conf: update upstream branch to point to ubuntu/master
- debian/patches/x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch:
  + X11: Add support for fractional scaling using Randr
  * d/p/x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch:
- Refresh as per upstream changes
- Don't update UI scale factor on xrandr-manager creation.
  This would trigger settings initializations that are supposed to happen
  after the clutter-x11 backend has been initialized, leading to saving
  too early the cached font-dpi scaling, and then making clutter backend
  to set a new (wrong) one. (LP: #1892440)
  * d/p/clutter-backend-x11-Don-t-set-the-font-dpi-computed-on-X1.patch:
- Don't set the font-dpi on clutter-backend-x11 (LP: #1892440)

mutter (3.38.0-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release:
- screencast: Only use DMA buffers for i915
- Fixed crashes
  * debian/patches: Refresh
  * d/p/input-mapper-Don-t-match-touchscreens-to-the-absence-of-a.patch:
- Dropped, applied upstream

mutter (3.37.92-2) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * d/p/input-mapper-Don-t-match-touchscreens-to-the-absence-of-a.patch:
Add patch to work around a crash with gnome-remote-desktop

mutter (3.37.92-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Fix stale cursor positions in remote desktop sessions
- xwayland: Add a setting to disable selected X extensions
- Fix screencasting when using QXL
- Cull actors that don't intersect with the redraw clip
- Optimize painting of backgrounds when culling is unavailable
- Improve support for Hangul input method
- Support debug paint overlay for opaque regions
- Fix launching flatpak applications when autostarting Xwayland
- Add support for capture scanouts in screencasts
- Allow integrated tablet devices to cycle outputs
- Improve mapping input devices to the most relevant output
- Only enable auto-rotation in touch mode
- Fix various crashes
  * d/control.in: Update libgbm build-dependency
  * d/copyright: Update
  * d/control.in, d/rules: Enable Pipewire on Debian (but not Ubuntu).
Now that we have Pipewire 0.3 in experimental, we can enable
screencasting and remote desktop support.
  * debian/libmutter-7-0.symbols: Update

[Bug 1896393] Re: gedit not responding to keystrokes

2020-09-22 Thread Cliff Carson
Trying to produce the error delay in a restrictive environment without
great success. Did get gedit running on some of my c++ programs
thinking maybe it was a plugin that was working. Did see that when I
was looking at a line and moving the cursor with the arrow keys that
there was a definite delay. As I moved the cursor across the line not
every key (arrow right/left) was immediate as I would expect (system was
doing nothing else). Did dump the journal at the time and passing the
snippet of the time I started gedit and when I observed the delay. Will
continue to try to better document this problem.

After running that commands I got the following output:

It seems like that kmimetypefinder5 is major culprit here. I've found another
unrelated bugreport here which was reported about a year ago:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-cli-tools/+bug/1857824

In that case the program reports wrong type for *.py files with correct
content. Weird!
I think it's wortht to rename this bugreport.

[Bug 1896654] [NEW] Windows flicker when resizing with mouse

2020-09-22 Thread Sam Lane
Public bug reported:

When resizing a window with the mouse by dragging the edge or corner,
the window begins to flicker. It only flickers when actively being
resized, and when I stop dragging, it looks normal. This behavior is
does not occur on same pc in 20.04. Sometimes the flickering is black,
sometimes the flickering makes the wallpaper visible, even when there is
a window behind the window being resized.

ProblemType: Bug

2020-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gdm3 - 3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

---
gdm3 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) focal; urgency=medium

  [ Iain Lane ]
  * New upstream release (LP: #1894874).
- Always use separate session bus for greeter sessions
  This runs dbus-run-session, so the binary needs to be available
- Chrome remote desktop fix
- Don't hardcode path to plymouth
- Fixes for when GDM isn't started on its configured initial VT (LP:
  #1845801)
- keyutils has a .pc file so use it
- User switching fix
  * debian/{control,gbp.conf}: Update for ubuntu/focal & upstream/3.36.x

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * Add Depends on dbus, for dbus-run-session
  * Update symbols file.
This ignores a change to private symbols: gdm_find_display_session_for_uid
isn't declared in a public header, and nothing in Debian/Ubuntu seems to
call it.

[Bug 1662430] Re: GNOME Software doesn't offer to update a .deb if it's already installed

2020-09-22 Thread Albert Lee
This is occurring for me on focal with 3.36.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.0. It seems
to affect all deb packages.

[Bug 1893969] Re: Screen corruption and delayed update using onboard Intel video

2020-09-22 Thread Ethan Blanton
It happens for sure in the following applications (which I think rules
out the application and toolkit, but not the compositor or Xorg):

* Firefox
* Emacs
* Electron apps (Keybase, Slack, Element)
* Okular
* OBS (maybe; this may be a different problem)
* FreeCAD (maybe; FreeCAD has painting problems in general)
* VMware (both the UI and the guest)

Interestingly, I don't think I have seen any misbehavior in urxvt, which
I use a lot.

I am not using GNOME. My window manager is awesome and my compositor is
compton. The mutter package is not installed on this machine.

I will try to get more screen shots, although this is hard to capture
because disturbing the window often causes a repaint. I have tried to
capture video a few times, but as I am working with private information
that does not belong to me on this machine I haven't yet captured an
instance where there was nothing on my screen I am unable to share.

[Bug 1890716] Re: xdg-mime query filetype index.html reports wrong type

2020-09-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The wrapper used depends of the environment, the previous one was under
a command line clean instance, on a GNOME based desktop

in fact the script doesn't seem to used shared-mime-info

$ XDG_UTILS_DEBUG_LEVEL=1 xdg-mime query filetype index.html
Running mimetype --brief --dereference "/tmp/index.html"
text/html

could you try to use the command with the same environement variable and
share the output?

[Bug 1896405] Re: Cannot install libglib2.0-dev on ubuntu 20.04.1

2020-09-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Great that it worked out. The downgrade was trying to remove things
because libglib binaries need to be on the same version so it was
necessary to downgrade libglib2.0-bin/focal in addition to the main
library

[Bug 1896581] Re: file-roller not operate .rar archice when rar and unrar is updated to 5.91

2020-09-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report but the Ubuntu packages aren't meant to
work with any random binary installation, if you install a local copy of
tools then you are the one that need to sort out their integration

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-09-22 Thread Felix Raynaud
Just a small contribution from my side: the bug is not fixed despite all
the latest updates. I'm having a Quadro K5200 with proprietary drivers
v440.100 on Ubuntu 20.04 and both fractional scaling (on one monitor)
and normal/fractional scaling on multiple monitors with different
scaling are broken.

I tried with the latest driver from the ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
repository, no help there. I confirm that scaling is working with the
nouveau driver, but this is not a solution for me since I need features
like CUDA, opencl or compatibility with VMWare 3D acceleration.

No luck with all 3 ways to set the scaling: Gnome control center, xrandr
or nvidia-settings. I cannot contribute to the fix itself, but if more
details on my configuration is needed, feel free to ask.
