I've just spent the day using mutt on gnome-terminal for the first time since I
reported this, and it appears fine now - I guess it got fixed somewhere in the
last year or so.
It also seems to stand up to a cat /bin/ls in a terminal window with out any
droppings being left behind.

we should file a bug against that; I did (24090) - it got closed because
it is similar to this one - I can't win hey?
I suggest there really are two separate bugs:
1) Somewhere in the mixer hardware/driver a setting of '0'
For me, it seems to be the master volume that is the problem, not the PCM
volume.
I can't hear anything with PCM at 0, but with PCM up and Master at 0 then I can

Even when you do configure Rhythmbox to monitor the library it doesn't seem to
work 100%; there are two issues:
1) It doesn't always get the files - I had two files marked as couldn't find
the mime type of the file, but on reimport it worked - I'm _guessing_ that it
is picking
I appear to be seeing the resume issue (Intrepid uptodate as of
yesterday); Rhythmbox (which I'd left open before I hibernated) was
stuck on resume and wouldn't play.

I just tried to repeat this on Hardy and I can't - however I think this
is because it has been avoided rather than fixed.
There don't seem to be any tooltips on the top level menus that have children
for me anymore hence I can't trigger this.
So it might still be valid.

Hmm - this isn't just nautilus.
I've seen this again; this time with the 'Human' theme selected on one of the
buttons in the Firefox preferences dialog - so I'm assuming this is one of the
libraries rather than nautilus.
It is happen on the 'Connection Settings' button in the 'General' tab

I have 2 monitors 1920x1080 external, 1280x800 laptop internal with the

Hi, can you please post the exact line from your pstree output - is it showing
the processes in {'s - i.e. it's lots of threads
rather than processes?

other entry now shown is Java SE - haven't tried that one yet.
So yeh, that seems happier.
(IcedTea is a bit flaky - found some 100% java processes left over afterwards -

I'm seeing two other crashes on 2.17.2 that go away if I roll back to

I still seem to be seeing this on 0.9.10-2ubuntu9.3 which is what is
currently installed on my Intrepid box.
This morning I had to do a pasuspender /bin/true to get the sound going
again after I woke it up from hibernate.
(Yesterday I had to restart the demon after it had gone completely - but
I agree something is needed better than the current behavior. I'm not
sure what the default to 'basic setup' would do - it's a bit nasty if
you have a load of panels and stuff on a 2nd head that accidentally gets
unplugged and you have to put them all back.

This looks like a request for help rather than a bug, so I've
converted it to a question.
From your question it looks like you're terminal is starting a csh
which uses % as the default prompt rather than $ used by bash or sh.
I suspect you probably did this by the command:
csh -s /bin/csh
and
