I'm having this issue too. I'm a web developer and use Gedit on a daily
basis so this is making life difficult.
I did determine a few things though... It only occurs when there is a
scrollbar present. When the document is short enough and doesn't require
a scrollbar the font renders correctly.
Changing 'rgb' to 'rgba' in xsettings fixed the issue in Gedit for me.
However, setting to rgba makes other apps render text poorly. After
screwing around for hours I did something that fixed that thought, but
I'm not 100% sure what it was. I think it was a fontconfig file buried
somewhere in my
Aibara, you're correct in that my fix is not a perfect solution, but it
prevents Gedit from being practically unusable in my opinion. Hopefully
someone can find the exact cause and a solution to this problem soon.

I was able to fix this on Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic), which comes with
libmtp-common=1.1.13 by installing a newer version of libmtp 1.1.16.
Now Ubuntu transfers huge numbers of songs between my phone and laptop
by simply drag-and-drop in Nautilus.

Ok, I found out how it happens. It works if I accept the message within
5-10 seconds, but if I leave the accept dialog up for too long, it
crashes gaim.

Attached is a crash log when running it in debug mode.
To repeat the steps for the crash:
1. Ask someone to send you a file.
2. When the file accept/cancel window comes up, just leave it there for 5-10
seconds.
3. Watch it crash.
Note: I am running this on Edgy Knot 3 with gaim 2.0 beta3.1, but
I have the same problem, but when receiving a file on the AIM network.

I tried it and nothing happened to me. Did you try backing up your .gaim
folder and creating a new one to test it with? Maybe your log files are
corrupt.

The gaim tabs are the same height as gedit, however I did notice that 2
pixels are getting cut off of the [x] button on the gaim tabs. I am
running gaim2.0beta-3.1 on Edgy Knot 3. I think I recall this problem in
Dapper too, however.
