Here's the extra details, something to do with gconf keys:
Bad key or directory name:
It's a fault in how some of the Fn keys don't send the key release code,
making the OS think that the key is being held down. I have submitted a
patch to the kernel which fixes this issue, allowing the Fn keys
(including brightness) to be used properly.
For those who want to see the patch:
This also occurs with a fresh installation of 8.10 (Release Candidate)
using the en_CA locale (Canadian English). F-spot seems to be looking
for /home/user/Photos when the precreated folder is called Pictures.

I'm seeing a number of other related symptoms now:
- alt-tab won't show the window-switching pop-up, still works
- Gnome-DO won't pop up
- Menus don't draw on click
- small firefox window overlay on minimize-all (attached since it's hard to
describe)
All these symptoms come and go seemingly
This is almost certainly fallout from database replication. During
normal operation, it will take 30-60 seconds for the information about
the upload to propagate to the replica database. It is quite likely that
when attempting to view this page with a web browser, the replica
database is hit and
Confirming as an infrastructure issue - I think we can preemptively
solve similar issues too.
