1) Make sure your 'Window List Preferences' have 'Window List Content'
set to 'Show windows from current workspace'
2) Start opening windows. I was able to reproduce this problem with just
Firefix and Console windows. Watch the Window List. At some poi
I think I've got the same bug. I've got only 1 workspace (don't like the
concept) and I am NOT using desktop effects (compiz). On Intrepid final.
Suddenly Window List looses all windows (becomes empty). If I go to the
Preferences and switch to "Show windows from all workspaces", I can see
the wind

is because the volume control is not auto closing any more (it keeps
open until explicitly closed).

This issue is still present on current Hardy. It really feels weird,
very unresponsive. Also, it's more like a two second delay rather than

This does not seem to be fixed on Gutsy RC, on a Dell Latitude X1 (intel
graphics). For me, the upper panel is hidden when booting into Gnome
(although I can see the Restricted Manager tooltip) and suddenly appears
when I click on the desktop.

Sebastien, can you try this:
Go to System Menu -> Preferences -> Universal Access.
Hover over Assistive Technology Preferences until tooltip appears.
Move away from Menu. How long does it take for the tooltip to disappear?

On my system, it takes anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds for the panel
tooltips to go away. This means that the Desktop can be blocked for 10
seconds.
I just checked with the tooltips from within Firefox (e.g. back icon),
and they disappear immediately.
Note that I have switched off Desktop Effects,
