[Bug 987462] Re: Can't use virtual secondary display in VMWare Player

2012-04-24 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I am not sure what you're asking here, or who should be answering it.
Can you elaborate?

I have the same problem in VIrtualBox BTW. That environment is gone so I
can't open a bug report for that right away.

Judging by the lack of any other options in VMware player, yes. I don't
have access to that environment anymore, unfortunately.

I am not sure I understand your second comment, .c files do open with
gedit if no IDE is installed which is a sensible fallback. Opening a
(presumably) known file format in Firefox isn't, OTOH.

That's what I am saying, it's the same except we don't have a good
fallback. Failing a good fallback, Ubuntu should propose
applications/packages known to handle that format, in this case,
scribus-ng.

[Bug 972475] Re: Scribus files open in Firefox if Scribus is not installed, should offer to install it

2012-04-03 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Nautilus now says Scribus Document (application/vnd.scribus) - this is
after I assigned the file type to it permanently when I first tried to
open it unsuccesfully.

Since Scribus is often mentioned as one of the major desktop applications in
the Ubuntu official documentation, I was expecting a better user experience for
this, much like when I try to open media files in unexpected non-free formats.
See:
http://www.ubuntu.com/search/google-appliance/scribus

COuld we use the same mechanism to recognize Scribus files?

[Bug 950885] [NEW] Regression: Installer detects Rainy River instead of correct timezone

2012-03-09 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Using the latest Desktop live installer, the city detected for timezone
setup is Rainy River when in fact it's Montreal.

ISP is Acanac which is based in Ontario but provides services in the
Montreal area. I suppose I am getting IP information from Ontario, I'd
like to know if any other information I can provide from this ISP could
fix this problem.

[Bug 651731] Re: duplicate monitor ids lead to garbage characters in gnome-display-properties

2010-11-15 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I reported a duplicate bug in 10.10 about this for an EloTouch screen
(Bug #672696).

In /usr/share/hwdata/pnp.ids I confirm there were duplicate IDs for this
manufacturer:

ELO Elo TouchSystems Inc
ELO Tyco Electronics

Removing one of them takes care of the issue.

be in System Preferences Pointing devices and will let you configure

reported here. It also highlight this bug was initially the indicator
applet not knowing how to deal with the time values not being there, not
sure where to assign this now.

[Bug 664596] [NEW] Can't double click on top email folders/headings to expand/collapse them

2010-10-21 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am filing this as a usability issue, having had several customers
reporting their email / folders were gone.

They had collapsed the folders by clicking on the small black triangle
at the beginning of the line but unlike other Gnome apps such a tree
can't be expanded (or collapsed) again by double-clicking anywhere else
on the line.

gconf-editor and Nautilus are two examples of applications that behave
as expected.

[Bug 664605] [NEW] Missing Delete messages from server when deleted locally option for POP3

2010-10-21 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

There doesn't seem to be an option to have Delete actions on
POP3-downloaded email sync'ed the remote mail server.

This leads to inconsistency for people using such POP3 accounts from a
Webmail interface.

They delete email locally and expect the webmail server to match that
but Evolution doesn't offer such an option.

Thunderbird implements it as an option under [ ] Leaves messages on
server as [ ] Until I delete them.

Granted POP3 is not as common nowadays but many ISPs still use it as a
default and don't offer IMAP as an alternative for older accounts.

[Bug 359563] Re: Feature request: Delete mail from pop-server after it is deleted form inbox/trash

2010-10-21 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Adding comments from the duplicate bug:

This is an optional feature that is not present in all mail clients.
Most users should be ok with (a) delete mail on server after receiving
or (b) keep messages on server after receiving. This requested option
treats the POP3 more like an indirect IMAP and may cause confusion
through complication of the interface. Nevertheless confirming this
feature is not available, marking as wishlist.

This should probably be marked wishlist as RFC 1939 (POP3) explicitly
indicates retention/deletion policy implementations may vary from server to
server and from client to client. See under 8. Scaling and Operational

[Bug 613886] Re: No preview on file upload after installing Flash

2010-10-05 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
@Pedro, I am reopening this as a bug, something is wrong when having
Flash can intercepta standard OS file dialog.

I can confirm this same problem in Maverick using the latest Adobe Flash
for 64-bit.

This seems to be website-specific. Try to upload an image to Flickr with
Flash enabled - no preview. Try to upload an image to your Launchpad
profile with Flash enabled - preview is OK. It looks like websites can
override the OS upload dialog with their own or something along those
lines.

[Bug 654761] [NEW] Battery life estimation always show estimating... in battery (indicator applet)

2010-10-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On a Dell Mini 9 with latest Maverick (i386 RC with updates), the
battery indicator always shows estimating instead of remaining time.
When power is removed, an accurate percentage value is shown.

This seems to be hardware specific. There is a very similar bug about an
HP system, bug #629258, where other unaffected systems apport
information has been sent.

[Bug 635472] Re: Battery indicator is not hidden on AC power regardless of settings, and shows an estimating... status

2010-10-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Looks like the same issue as reported in bug #629258, but it's not a
duplicate, as the hardware is different. I'll mention this bug there,
please report the battery indicator always showing up in a separate bug
and change this bug's description accordingly.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2010-09-28 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
There is no mouseover in Maverick beta for this, however the menu item
when clicking on the battery effectively remains at estimating The
battery icon, however, seems to be visually accurate, showing a battery
that empties overtime. This is on an updated 10.10 beta i386 install.

[Bug 332355] Re: Empathy doesn't alert to new email messages

2010-09-15 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I am raising this to medium, as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance:
* A bug that has a moderate impact on a core application.

My rationale is that Empathy has replaced Pidgin as the core IM
application in Ubuntu, and as such there still is an expectation that it
should have the same or better/more features. In some cases like this
one it's not and it's important functionality present across several
services (I checked MSN, GTalk, Yahoo). It's also functionality present
in other IM clients in their respective OS, which maintains the
expectation even for new Ubuntu users.

I took a brief look to the upstream bug and it's blocked by two other
bugs, including another spec and undrafting the original spec. If you
look at the spec for this it's been worked on for quite some time now so
it's not something that has been ignored, or dismissed. I'll see if I
can get more information on how to best help upstream with this.

[Bug 294182] Re: GNOME's Help Slow to Load

2010-08-11 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
This won't likely make it into Ubuntu anytime before April 2011. Feature
freeze for Maverick is *tomorrow* and by reading the upstream bug report
you can see the progress so far. Around March/April 2011 we *may* be
able to file an SRU for this. If anyone feels this is not the right
information I'm happy to be corrected.

I am not able to reproduce this in 10.04 LTS either, exact same behavior
as Robert indicates.

[Bug 313353] Re: Tree view freezes after expanding and collapsing

2010-07-07 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Ubuntu 8.10 is EOL now and 9.04 will be in a few months. I think it's
reasonable to say this won't get fixed for 9.04 now so I will mark it as
wontfix - I'd suggest 8.10 or 9.04 users upgrade to 9.10 or 10.04 LTS to
address this or use the workaround mentioned earlier.

[Bug 379183] Re: nautilus Unique-DBus-WARNING

2010-07-07 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
It seems complex or unsupported thumbnail-generation of files on the
desktop may be causing this. As a workaround, can anyone affected by
this trying to erase/move all their desktop files to a separate
directory and see if this problem persists ?

So I just tested this in Maverick, double-clicking on a .3gp file will
ask to install new packages and result in sound being present from the
stock movie player.

[Bug 595905] Re: Confusing Error while burning - Resource not found error message

2010-06-18 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Upon closer inspection it seems a log file for each of the 13 tracks was
created (individually, prompting 13 times).

All tracks came from an internal encrypted hard disk different than the
main install disk.
