[Bug 1003671] Re: [soundnua]: Internal sound card (HDA ATI SB) not showed in Sound Input

2012-05-24 Thread Luca Ferretti
David, yes it's the internal microphone/input (Realtek ALC889 on MSI
790GX-G65 motherboard). Pulseaudio seems unaffected to me, see attached
out `pactl list`, and nothing changes plugging headphone jacks.

** Attachment added: On same system, running Sound setting inside GNOME
Session (in Italian, sorry)

[Bug 1003671] [NEW] Internal sound card (HDA ATI SB) not showed in Sound Input

2012-05-23 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

As in summary, opening Sound settings and going to Input tab, there are
no entries in Record sound from list related to internal sound card.

The sound card is recognized by alsa and pulseaudio (info attached) and
curiously it appears starting gnome-control-center within GNOME Shell
session (i.e. starting the upstream Sound capplet).

[Bug 1001490] [NEW] No beep for sticky, slow, and bounce keys features

2012-05-18 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

It seems there is no audio feedback (beep) to assist in typing with a11y
features enabled. The audio file to play (bell named sound) is
installed (both ubuntu and freedesktop sound themes).

## Steps to reproduce
 1) Open System Settings Universal Access
 2) Go to Typing tab
 3) Turn ON Slow Keys switch
 4) Activate Beep when a key is ... accepted
 5) Focus test text entry and press (and hold) a key on keyboard

## Expected result
The systems should beep when the key press is accepted and the letter appears
on screen

## Current result
 No sound

## Additional info
*Same issue for other beep related options in Styky, Slow and Bound keys.
* It seems a Ubuntu only issue, 'cause the same feature in Fedora 17 works fine
(and it seems there are no special differences between Fedora's and Ubuntu's
a11y/sound related values for GSettings keys).

[Bug 855460] [NEW] Fonts Viewer and thumbnailers not installed

2011-09-21 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

gnome-utils source package provides the GNOME font viewer and
thumbnailers (if I'm right it was in gnome-control-center, moved to
gnome-utils on 2.x 3.x)

It seems in debian package creation[1] those utilities are built, but
not included in package.

[Bug 854544] [NEW] Hidden controls due missing hardware showed on system settings relaunch

2011-09-20 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

It seems here is a way to add a battery or a touchpad to your non-laptop system
:)
Basically System Settings window adds hidden controls (for instance touchpad or
battery or just the Search entry in toolbar) if you relaunch it when it's
already running. The proper behavior should be raise the window, instead. Here
is a video showing the issue: http://ubuntuone.com/6tERKDklQhZo0xvSlklW08

## Steps to Reproduce ##
Let assume you are on a system without a touchpad
 - launch System Settings and open Mouse and Touchpad
 - give focus to another window, keeping system setting running and showing
mouse settings
 - relaunch System Settings

## Current result ##
hidden Touchpad tab appears, as well as the search entry (this one should be
available only in overview mode)

## Expected Result ##
raise system settings window

## Additional Notes ##
It seems the combobox available in Appearance Background to change the
background style (fill, tile, stretch...) is now hidden. Is it a bug, isn't it?

[Bug 792636] Re: [FFE] [UIFE] [Regression] Power section no longer allows configuration of when the lid is closed action in Oneiric

2011-09-14 Thread Luca Ferretti
A little note: all power related settings in GNOME weren't removed from
GConf, but moved from GConf to GSettins/Dconf.
This means you have to install and run dconf-editor instead gconf-editor in
order to have a direct and full control.

[Bug 846916] [NEW] Missing files to support AFP shares

2011-09-11 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Staring from 1.9.4, gvfs supports AFP protocol (see [1]); if I'm right,
no additional external dep is needed for it, just build and install
proper files. Unfortunately needed files are not installed in Ubuntu
oneiric

luca@turnip:~$ find /opt/gnome3/ -name *afp*
/opt/gnome3/libexec/gvfsd-afp-browse
/opt/gnome3/libexec/gvfsd-afp
/opt/gnome3/share/gvfs/mounts/afp-browse.mount
/opt/gnome3/share/gvfs/mounts/afp.mount

(/opt/gnome3 is my own installation prefix for gnome stuff from git
through jhbuild)

luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search gvfsd-afp-browse
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search gvfsd-afp
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search afp-browse.mount
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search afp.mount
luca@turnip:~$

I suspect debian pkg files need updates :)

[Bug 747149] [NEW] Yelp no longer uses /desktop/gnome/interface/document_font_name

2011-04-01 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

It seems yelp changed from /desktop/gnome/interface/document_font_name
to plain /desktop/gnome/interface/font_name as GConf key setting the
font used to render the help text.

IMHO could be good to revert/patch this change, in order to allow people
to use a font well suited for large text blocks (such as Ubuntu Light).

[Bug 580201] Re: Help tool displays a mix of English and Italian text inside each page

2011-03-17 Thread Luca Ferretti
I've just updated this specific translation, but I hope Giovanni hasn't
filed more bugs about mixed Italian/English messages :)

While usually the GNOME UI is fully translated in Italian, GNOME manuals
could be only partially translated, due to limited resource or the inner
obsolescence of original manual (some GNOME manuals still describe 5
years old UI).

[Bug 668336] [NEW] [REGRESSION] Can't reproduce MP3 transferred on iPod Touch

2010-10-29 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 I transferred some tracks to iPod
Touch using Rhythmbox.

While the transfer proces seems successful, there are some issues using this
newly added music in iPod, i.e. iPod don't start play those songs. Moreover, it
seems that if you copy a single track (not a full album) iPod database can't
list artist/album in a proper way.
The bug is reproducible on different system using 10.10, but seems related to
Rhythmbox only (not libgpod): in fact, trying to use GtkPod the transferred
tracks are propertly playied on portable player.

Any idea?

[Bug 577359] Re: Eliipsize long title/artist in indicator menu

2010-10-15 Thread Luca Ferretti
Hi Pedro, it's true that a new Rhythmbox version is available in Ubuntu 10.10,
but:
  * RB indicator in 10.10 in totally different from the one in 10.04
  * 10.04 is a LTS release
So, IMHO, if we want to remove this odd behavior for LTS users, we should fix
RB indicator in 10.04, even if the issue no longer exists in 10.10.

However, I've just checked in 10.04.1+updates (with a shorter title, to
be honest, only 25 characters) and no ellipsize is applied :(

[Bug 620326] [NEW] Wrong (hardcoded) width for Play button in non-english language

2010-08-19 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

A recent patch to adjust the width of Play/Pause toolbar button is
causing some visual glitches in (at least) Italian language. There are
two issues:

#1 -- the button width is not enough for Italian translation (Play -
Riproduci). Here is a screenshot of RB at startup

#2 -- playing then pausing RB shows the label in English language.

[Bug 542836] Re: facebook chat not working on Empathy in lucid

2010-05-01 Thread Luca Ferretti
I'm experiencing this issues in 10.04. Trying to use the Facebook chat
account type and providing username and password, Empathy fails to
authenticate. Instead, using the simple Jabber account and specifying
full usern...@chat.facebook.com as username and chat.facebook.com as
server (no SSL) it works fine :/

Maybe something goes wrong in Empathy while setting the missing info.

[Bug 566909] Re: Offline contacts not showed by default

2010-04-29 Thread Luca Ferretti
Martin, this is exactly the reason I asked for urgency in this issue...
I'll try to summarize this again, hoping someone from Canonical Design
Team could join this thread to confirm the desirer behavior.

* Canonical Design Team performed an usabilty study on Empahy
* One suggestion was show offline contacts by default
* A bug on b.g.o was filed and fixed, with a simple s/no/yes in .schemas file
* Something goes wrong, due to a change in gconf path [1]
* Nobody seen the issue, maybe used to old default
* I filed this bug
* Guillaume fixed in upstream (see [1])
* The fix will appear in Ubuntu 10.04 when we'll update empathy package to
2.30.0.2 or 2.30.1

So, yes, the visible effect will be change the (old) default setting
and show offline contact, the actual effect will be honour the (new)
default setting. Not so fun situation, yeah.

In all the Ubuntu releases so far, only online contacts were shown (which
 makes a lot of sense,
too, otherwise it becomes utterly hard to find the person you actually want
to talk to due to list overflow).

See linked b.g.o 612448 or ask Design Team ;)
Patching empathy in ubuntu in order to use old default could be a
contradiction: a change sponsored by Canonical refused by Ubuntu...
Plus, if I'm right, the Empathy manual was changed to respect current actual
setting (show offline).

[Bug 566909] Re: Offline contacts not showed by default

2010-04-20 Thread Luca Ferretti
Sebastien, plese also note that the behavior wasn't switched in ubunt
package (the default GConf value file is TRUE, i.e. show offline
contacts). Simply, there is (was, as Guillame said) a bug that prevents
this setting to be respected at runtime.

Guillame, here is any specific commit in git.gnome.org that fixed the
issue?

[Bug 566909] [NEW] Offline contacts not showed by default

2010-04-19 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

The Empathy behavior about showing offline contact was changed to
always show offline contacts in order to match an usability study
performed by Canonical UX team.

On a fresh Beta 2 install in a virtual machine (no previous data on
home) unfortunately it seems that Empathy is unable to respect the
initial actual value for /apps/empathy/ui/show_offline (true). The
contact list only shows online contacts and the Viev → Offline Contacts
menu entry is unchecked.

Offline contact will be showed only changing from menu, not working on
GConf key.

[Bug 531486] Re: Switch Shut Down to Switch Off and Suspend to Sleep

2010-03-04 Thread Luca Ferretti
Matthew, while I'm not a native English speaker (so I ignore if switch off is
better for native people), I see the following objective issues in this change:
 * as Milo said, other OS/DE (kde too) are using a different word, you'll have
to close many bugs asking to restore shut down :)
 * upstream - is this an Ubuntu only change, or are you planning to propose
upstream? Unfortunately the GNOME 2.30 string freeze should be yet active, so I
fear there not so much time to ask for the change and give positive feedback
 * translations - it could be good announce this change to translators,
pointing to all modules affected, in order to help to update localized version
in short time (or will have a LST partially translated in a major feature)

As a final, useless, personal note, I disagree on your in this case it
outweighs consistency with other OSes, see
http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GBword1=%22shut+down%22word2=%22switch+off%22

[Bug 342567] Re: Sticky Keys and Slow Keys popups ignore notification daemon capabilities

2010-02-16 Thread Luca Ferretti
Any news about this. Could be really good fix it for Lucid, at least
remove OK/Cancel buttons.

An additional note. I'm not sure, but sometimes it seems to me that the
confirmation dialog opens unfocused, I've to click it in order to
interact. This seems bad to me, 'cause probably people that needs
Sticky/Slow/* Keys feature couldn't use the mouse. Can someone confirm
this?

[Bug 519804] [NEW] Wrong icons appearance in notification icon menu

2010-02-10 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The new menu showed clicking on Rhythmbox notification icon has bad
labels/icons alignment and doesn't follow the other GTK+ plain menus.

Here is attached a picture about current appearance and how it should
be. However I think this is not a Rhythmbox only related issue, but more
generally to all libindicate based notification icons. Please note that
in order to show an icon for a menu entry overriding the current no
icons in menu default in GNOME, should be used the gtk-image-menu-item-
set-always-show-image() function[1] (or similar other)

[Bug 509853] [NEW] gnome-volume-control-applet doesn't show notification icon for input levels

2010-01-19 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

gnome-volume-control-applet should ideally (see [1] and [2])
automatically show a microphone icon in notification area (see [3])
when you start an application that PulseAudio identify as consumer of
input audio channel.

This is a feature that was implemented in gnome-media 2.26, but that
could appear in Ubuntu 9.10 (due to the full switch to PulseAudio).

Unfortunately, no microphone icon appears in notification area starting,
for instance, the Sound Recorder application. Same issue occurs in Lucid
Lynx alpha 2 (in VirtualBox, to be honest).

[Bug 480658] Re: Don't respect /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/exclude GConf key

2009-11-11 Thread Luca Ferretti
From Brian Cameron in upstream bug:

Apologies, but the documentation is wrong. We tried to get this feature into
GDM 2.26 at the last minute, and backed it out after there was some
disagreement about how the configuration interfaces should work. The docs were
updated to reflect the new feature, but I forgot to backout the documentation
when I backed out the code which implements the feature.

Actually, the code is about to go into GDM 2.29, but with different (and more
backwards compatible) configuration options.

So, the documentation is corrected in GDM 2.29 to remove this incorrect
information about these features being available.

Apologies for the confusion.

[Bug 419184] Re: nautilus inhibits logout

2009-08-28 Thread Luca Ferretti
Kylea, the nautilus bug was fixed on git.gnome.org, not yet available in
karmic. In fact the status of this bug is Fix Commited, not Fix Released
:)

The shutdown issues, intead, should be now fixed in karmic after kernel
update. At least in my karmic virtual machine.

[Bug 419184] [NEW] nautilus inhibits logout

2009-08-26 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce
 * Select a file or directory
 * Trash it (or delete)
 * Try to logout

Current result
gnome-session reports Nautilus action (or actions) are still running,
inhibiting logout. But relevant files was yet deleted or trashed or moved or
copied other files while session was running

Notes
This seems retaled to recent addition of inhibit sleep while performing
action.

[Bug 419184] Re: nautilus inhibits logout

2009-08-26 Thread Luca Ferretti
Andrew, by now I was able to perform only the dbus-monitor test, there
is the log:

No Uninhibit call :(

PS it seems that nautilus -q don't prevent nautilus to be respawned.
Is this related to /desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list ?
