[Bug 2027681] Re: On Home Folder when right click for context menu, if context option is on top of a file it cant be clicked

2023-07-13 Thread Luis Alvarado
This is only happening on the home folder. I have tested other folders
and they work properly.

To replicate this, do the following steps 1 to 3 times. It will
eventually happen. Sometimes on the first try or 2nd try, but I was able
to confirm that up to a maximum of 3 tries are needed to always get the
same result:

1. Right click empty space on the home folder while using nautilus and make
sure for example the properties option in the context menu always lands on top
of a file.

2. Try to click the properties option. If it works correctly, repeat
step 1 at least 2 more times.

3. After the problem happens, it will keep on happening until nautilus
is closed and reopened.

[Bug 2027681] [NEW] On Home Folder when right click for context menu, if context option is on top of a file it cant be clicked

2023-07-13 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

When on home as seen on the image https://imgur.com/a/61q20OR if you
right click for context menu, not right click on a file, but on the
space between the files, after the context menu opens, if the context
option you want to click is on top of a file it cant be clicked and it
will resolve on closing the context menu and clicking on the file.

On the image above you can see in red the files behind the context menu,
those specific areas if clicked will close the context menu and end up
clicking on the file.

[Bug 2022930] Re: When deleting a file via Nautilus, following files can not be deleted

2023-06-08 Thread Luis Alvarado
Well first, thank you for that new way of installing specific packages.
If you have a source that I might be able to go to, please share so I
can learn more, mainly because the man pages lack being updated, some of
them for years.

Returning to the update, after I did that yes I can confirm the problem
was solved. I tried deleting in different folders, from a single file
(Deleted 5 files, one by one), to multiple files at once. All problems
solved.

[Bug 2012388] Re: X11 window (usually AnyDesk) at top-right of the screen is invisible and steals mouse clicks

2023-06-05 Thread Luis Alvarado
I gotta update something here that I have noticed. Whenever the problem
happens, any window on the system, when trying to click on it to get it
focused on the system top bar, it will not handle the click, you would
have to drag the window a bit to get it to focus. So basically, when the
problem happens:

1. Try to click the top system bar of any window for it to get focus.
2. It won't work, so you need to drag the window for it to get focus

[Bug 2022930] [NEW] When deleting a file via Nautilus, following files can not be deleted

2023-06-05 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

1. Try to delete a file via Nautilus (Files). On the bottom right corner
you will see the whole name of the file with the word selected on it.
Press the Delete key on the keyboard and press enter.

2. try to delete a second file on the same folder. It will now show as
"" selected instead of the actual name of the file and it will not
delete anything.

3. You need to refresh nautilus for it to work once again, but it will
only work once, you need to refresh every time you delete a file.

2023-06-01 Thread Luis Alvarado
Same for me. It worked after deleting Anydesk and disabling the
appindicator, but after around 30 minutes to 4 hours, the issue appeared
again.

I then removed telegram, removed flameshot, removed cpufreq and even
vital and clipboard. Again, after 30 minutes to several hours, the issue
appeared again randomly. The only things left on the task area was the
default icons for network, sound, microphone and power.

[Bug 2012388] Re: X11 window at top-right of the screen is invisible and steals mouse clicks

2023-05-22 Thread Luis Alvarado
Hi Daniel, well you are 100% right. We tested with a German friend the
following:

1. Ubuntu 23.04 with gnome-shell-extension-appindicator ONLY

2. Ubuntu 23.04 with AnyDesk running only

3. Ubuntu 23.04 without both.

Only by removing BOTH did it work correctly.

There is however a weird behavior also where, when you click the system
bars at the top of an app, they do not get selected. you need to drag
the windows for them to get focused.

[Bug 2012388] Re: X11 window at top-right of the screen is invisible and steals mouse clicks

2023-05-04 Thread Luis Alvarado
It might be me going crazy (just in case). But I am getting the feeling
the invisible box sometimes grows downwards, taking more space so even
if you drag windows down, you can not click them unless you drag them to
the left side of the screen. It also grows in a specific rectangular
way. What I mean with this is that, when dragging windows for example
you can not drag them in a certain part of the window (because of the
ghost window) but any other part to the left or right will work. Here is
an image to give you an idea:

https://imgur.com/a/e5UjluM

Inside the red, I can not drag either the telegram app or sublime in the
background, but if I move the mouse over to the right or left I can
drag/click again.

[Bug 2012388] Re: AnyDesk X11 window at top-right of the screen is invisible and steals mouse clicks

2023-05-02 Thread Luis Alvarado
Hi Daniel, just in case this is not an Anydesk bug. I installed anydesk
today but I have had the issue since the first day I installed
Ubuntu.23.04. I am saying this because my bug report was marked as
duplicate of this one but it is not an anydesk issue. I did not even
have anydesk installed since today.

[Bug 2011837] Re: Nvidia with Wayland or Xorg issue

2023-04-10 Thread Luis Alvarado
Just updating. This is fixed. On Beta with Update April 10 there is no
issue and here is the list of other things fixed that I did not
mentioned but just noticed:

1. Rebooting after installing from USB no longer freezes before rebooting.
2. Nvidia drivers are now installed properly which includes nvidia settings
working correctly.
3. Changing to Xorg and disabling Wayland no longer freezes the system on boot.
4. Changing resolution no longer causes a black screen in a random way I was
not able to assess.
5. Waiting for the suspend to kick in no longer freezes computer if you try to
move the mouse or keyboard.
6. I installed 5 times already today without putting any kernel settings and it
worked properly.
7. Context many now shows complete instead of only 2 or 3 options.

Now errors

8. Updating from Nvidia 525 to 530, if secure boot is disabled or
enabled it will freeze during dpkg process and stop the installation. I
can try to do dpkg --configure -a but it freezes during building initial
module for 6.2.0-19-generic. This I will create a bug report for.

[Bug 2011837] Re: Nvidia with Wayland or Xorg issue

2023-04-08 Thread Luis Alvarado
Okay this is basically the only thing I can get now if I:

1. Change from Wayland to Xorg in the /etc/gdm/custom.conf and set wayland to
false.
2. Install nvidia drivers 53 or 525, including updating the kernel to 6.2.19
and confirming the kernel processed the nvidia drivers correctly.

https://imgur.com/a/yDgMjyY

If I try to change TTY or type anything what you see on the image
persists forever. I can only reset or turn off the computer at that
point.

[Bug 2011837] Re: Nvidia with Wayland or Xorg issue

2023-04-05 Thread Luis Alvarado
Hi Daniel, I am trying but now the PC freezes even before booting to run
those commands. All I can say is that it was running Nvidia 525. I do
not know if it is fine if I simply reinstall everything again because it
freezes with an nvme AER error and I can not go to the terminal (This
happens even before booting to gnome). If I change tty it still shows
the error.

[Bug 2011837] Re: Nvidia with Wayland or Xorg issue

2023-04-03 Thread Luis Alvarado
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I will summarize here what I put at
  https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-23-04-testing-week/34246/6

On Ubuntu 23.04, if I install it, it works fine but there is a
considerable lag for everything. This is when using Wayland. If I do not
change the custom.conf gdm to not use wayland, I can get in but I can
not interact with any windows. Context menus and sub menus open but do
not do anything. The only way for me to get to the terminal was to open
nautilus/files from the Dock, then right click any empty space and
select terminal. The moment I did that I had a couple of seconds before
it crashed the terminal. But was able to get a picture of the hardware
  after my 3rd attempt.

If I do put in on xorg, then an image I posted on the 1st link happens
and it stays there, does not matter if I change tty, it always shows and
needed to reinstall 23.04 to be able to go back to wayland. But if I use
wayland I can actually feel the lag and the interaction with windows and
all. This started happening all today after applying all the latest
updates for 23.04 (I did not update since I think since several days
  back).

The hardware that I was using for testing is:

  CPU - 13900k
  MOBO - Asus Z790 Hero
  RAM: DDR5 128GB
VID: Nvidia 4090 (Drivers were automatically installed during setup)
  SSD - SN850x

It is a computer just for Ubuntu 23.04 testing right now.

I believe it will get fixed. I know how annoying it is when you use an

alone.

[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-04-23 Thread Luis Alvarado
Confirmed, after adding the nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to the GRUB file it
worked. I tested 3 cases:

1. Reboot without Log out afterwards.
2. Reboot with a Log out afterwards and then try to log in again.
3. Reboot with a Log out afterwards, try to log in again and then reboot.

It worked for all cases. Of course this is still a workaround, but it
works for the time being.

[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-04-23 Thread Luis Alvarado
This is exactly what is happening to me. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 today
(The official released version, not beta), and if I set the auto login
on, it will give me the same issue the original poster said. You can't
login afterwards and if your logout, it enter a loop where you will
never come out from unless you purge gdm3 and install it back or other
workarounds that I can't guarantee work alone. I have an Nvidia GTX 1080
running on the Proprietary 440 Driver. My user is "luis" and the
password is "x" in case anyone would want to literally try it out with
the same user/pass/hardware combination.

If I disable the auto login then everything related to logout/login
works correctly.

The hardware is down below of an Asus Hero Alpha VII, Intel 6700k and 64
GB of RAM. The SSD is a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB.

With Dying Light both border issues showed.
With Mad Max one showed and after doing a 2nd ALT-TAB both showed.
With Shadow of Mordor both showed.

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2014-10-15 Thread Luis Alvarado
Horrible problem in 14.04 and 14.10. It is very slow with folders that
contain 500+ files (png, jpg, mp4, mkv). I tested for example a folder
with 1000 files. The files were 400 png, 400 jpg, 100 mkv and 100 mp4.
It was amazingly slow. Took more than 10 seconds to start showing the
previews and then another 60 to 70 seconds to show all. Super slow. The
ironic thing is, I have an Intel i7 4700, 32 GB of RAM and the hdd where
they are is a Samsung SSD 840PRO. So there was actually no excuse for so
slow performance. I can not imagine something with a normal system.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-02 Thread Luis Alvarado
Happens to me. Tried the following

Folder X - Total Files 10
Folder X/Sub 1 - Total Files 2159
Folder X/Sub 2 - Total Files 1190
Folder X/Sub 3 - Total Files 3388
Folder X/Sub 4 - Total Files 2408

I did a search on Folder X for all files in the Sub folders then tried
to CUT all of them and put them in the main Folder X. It started copying
but after about 1000 files, everything started freezing. Then the whole
process simply stopped.

I have an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of ram so hardware is not a
limiting factor here.

I then tried copying from a single folder, but if the folder had, at
least 1200+ files the problem appeared. the more files it had after the
1000+ file limit, the faster the problem appeared.

What could be limiting this and even freezing the whole system to the
point that I need to do a hard reset sometimes.

[Bug 1159440] [NEW] Nautilus not showing status bar by default

2013-03-24 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

In 13.04, Nautilus is not showing the status bar on the bottom when
entering a folder with many items on it. It only shows the status bar
when I select the items in it, but not by default when I go inside a
folder. It should, like in the past, tell me how many items are shown
(Folder and files) and how much free space is left.

There is no option to activate this via gui either.

The bar missing goes in the bottom (there is no option in preferences).
Typically shows how many items (folders and files) are in the current
folder and how much disk space is left. It was there in 12.10 under the
View option in the menu (Status Bar).

[Bug 1067111] [NEW] Searching within many subfolders freezes Desktop

2012-10-15 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

Linux cyrex 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:31:23 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

GNOME nautilus 3.4.2

If I do a search for jpg file for example within a folder that contains
around 5000 folders and each one has about 5000 files the desktop and
anything related to Nautilus first starts to take longer to respond.
After 10 to 15 minutes the whole system freezes until the search is
done. In this case the search took 45 minutes which means that I could
not interact with anything at least for 30 minutes.

The way I was thinking is that the search should not affect the
performance on the Desktop or other Nautilus windows.

[Bug 1050418] [NEW] Desktop sharing not working (grayed out)

2012-09-13 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

On 12.04.1 32 Bit and 64 Bit using Empathy 3.4.2.3 the option for
Desktop Sharing is grayed out. After around June it stopped working. All
other options work correctly like Video call, Audio call and even
Transfering files but Desktop Sharing does not.

There is no error output in dmesg when I run empathy, the option just
stopped working. After running it from the terminal I get the following
output when for example trying to edit info from a user:

[Bug 882307] Re: [list-view] After copying text from a rename entry, file copy menus items are broken

2012-08-24 Thread Luis Alvarado
Confirmed on 12.04 even after all updates. In my case is just easy to
test it. There are 2 ways, one happens always, the other one happens in
some cases:

Rare Nautilus Case (This happens rarely):

1. Go to nautilus and copy any file/folde you want.
2. Right click on an empty space and see that the Paste option in the context
menu is grayed.

Note that it is selectible and you can paste, but to see it grayed I
would thinks that I did not copy anything.

Desktop Case (Always happens. I mean ALWAYS!):

1. On your desktop copy anything there, be it a folder or a file.
2. Right click on an empty space and see that the Paste option in the context
menu is grayed.

This might have something to do with the fact that Gnome3 removed files/folders
from the Desktop. So in Unity maybe some option is not affecting the way a
clipboard created from a Desktop object is detected and does not active the
Paste option.

[Bug 934394] Re: can't use share my desktop option in empathy

2012-05-01 Thread Luis Alvarado
I can confirm this is still happening. I am trying to use desktop
sharing and teach new users of the advantages of Empathy but before I
start the lessons I need to solve this problem. Is this a bug or do I
have to activate for example vino. I already activated desktop sharing
with the vino server but Empathy still does not activate the option for
Desktop Sharing.

[Bug 989990] [NEW] Installing 12.04 from LiveCD or LiveUSB takes long time

2012-04-27 Thread Luis Alvarado
Public bug reported:

I tried to install the 12.04 64 Bit Desktop version of Ubuntu on my
machine and the LiveCD / or LiveUSB would stay on the purple screen for
several minutes. I actually lost count since I just went to do other
stuff hoping that it would start sometime. It did start but after about
20 to 30 minutes later.

The problem happens right after selecting Try Ubuntu from the LiveCD
or LiveUsB menu. It starts to load up and then it just stays for many
minutes loading or waiting for something. I even removed in the menu (by
pressing F6) the splash and quiet flags from the kernel line before
starting to see what was happening. For the first 4 seconds, I could see
the output on screen and then, nothing. Just a dark purple background
that stayed there up until Unity appeared but this was about 20-30
minutes later.

This also happened with the LiveUSB. I even downloaded the image again
via Torrent and checked the MD5.

The hardware I am trying to install it in is:

Intel DZ68DB Motherboard
16GB DDR3 RAM
Intel i7 2600 CPU
Samsung Spintpoint F3 1TB HDD Sata
Broadcom Wireless
RaLink Wireless
Intel Integrated Ethernet Gigalan
Realtek PCI Ethernet Gigalan
Nvidia GT 440

The DVD from which I tried to install Ubuntu is an external USB unit.
I also tried the USB from the front and back USB connectors. Same goes with the
external DVD unit.

I did a memtest on the memory just to make sure. In all cases It was the
same.
