[Bug 1971559] Re: After Ugrade, Jammy requires me to create a new user, although users are present
Sorry, I'm far from that machine at the moment, but I'll try describing: - Desktop environment: GNOME (standard Ubuntu Desktop) - I don't see the login screen, Ubuntu boots through to the desktop and shows the dialog. - dialog fills almost the whole desktop and nothing can be done except finishing that dialog. - it says (from my mind): only a few steps are required to finish setip, this wizard will help you create an account. [Bug 1726717] [NEW] Alignment of external screen limits placing of icons
Public bug reported: Reporting against gnome-desktop since I do not know better. Please assign to appropriate package. Thanks! Using external monitors with the gnome desktop behaves unexpected in a few ways. One is, that the alignment of screens limits, where icons can be placed on that screens: My external monitor is higher than the internal screen of my laptop. I have aligned the screens at the bottom. [Bug 1565469] Re: GPS Denied without reason
>From my experience I believe that the issue is triggered by several apps >sharing GPS access. For instance, GPS frequently breaks down with uNav, when other apps access GPS data concurrently. Like: Browser (geolocation, e.g. Google maps), nearby scope, cachemere, etc. I tend to have open a lot of apps in background, many of them acessIng GPS. If I use uNav togetjer with those, it usually works for a few minuites, then freezes an loses GPS. I can resolve this issue by closing all other apps using GPS. After that, uNav works perfect. I.e.: uNav requires exclusive access to GPS in order to work. It breaks as soon as another process requires read access to GPS. There us no logical reason, why not several processes at once should read GPS data (it is read-obky after all). [Bug 1330759] [NEW] del key does not delete marked entry
Public bug reported: When I have marked an entry (say, in a play queue; the entry is marked with orange background as being the active one) and press the Del key, I expect this entry to be deleted (because this is what this key implies). [Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-flashback (metacity) fails to start without hardware acceleration, cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)
Thanks, folks, for getting this into action. Meanwhile, here's a problem related to Eugene's backport: Eugene provides a backport of gnome-session 3.12, but this package has a bug: the gnome-session-quit command is broken. This prevents that users from logging out of the session. The problem is described here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1344528#p1344528 (see comment 4: the logout dialog was removed with gnome-session 3.12). [Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play
Thanks, this was of course the solution. I'd suggest that gstreamer1.0-alsa was a dependency of ubuntu-restricted-extras. [Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play
Hm, to my knowledge Lubuntu does not come with pulseaudio nor gstreamer. The standard install relies on audio applications that use plain ALSA. Try installing from a Lubuntu live CD. It's certainly hard to choose which (meta-)package should pull in gstreamer1.0-alsa. But some package should include it, otherwise Lubuntu users will end up without it and have the problems described above. It's the link between ALSA and gstreamer, so it could come with one of the packages that deliver ALSA or gstreamer. There's probably no perfect answer here. It could just be included in the standard Lubuntu install, but the Lubuntu people opt for simplicity and use direct ALSA. However, a typical scenario is as follows: You install Lubuntu from a Live CD. You find a selection of slim audio software like audacious. However, you miss your rhythmbox/banshee/whatever. You install rhythmbox/banshee/whatever. It does not work, because there is no gstreamer. You google a bit and learn that the gstreamer plugins come with ubuntu-restricted-extras. You install it, but your rhythmbox/banshee/whatever still does not work, because there is no ALSA sink. You google a bit more but find no answer. You end up writing a bug report on launchpad ;-). Anyway, it might even have helped if gstreamer printed a proper error message (like no sink found) instead of trying to use the jack sink, which is probably the least likely to exist. I don't know where's the best place of doing it, but somehow it should be guaranteed that there is at least one sink present when gstreamer is installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178272 Title: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/1178272/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1178272] Re: Gstreamer applications report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play
Update: Installing pulseaudio fixes the problem. However, pulseaudio is not part of the standard Lubuntu installation, and I expect there is a reason for this. (Lubuntu is intended to be very lightweight, alsa should be enough for simple sound output.) gstreamer0.10-alsa is installed, I take it this should enable gstreamer output with alsa. However, this does not seem to work any longer. ** Summary changed: - Gstreamer applications report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play + Without pulseaudio, gstreamer applications report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178272 Title: Without pulseaudio, gstreamer applications report jack server is not running or cannot be started and do not play To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/1178272/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1174830] [NEW] Display starts up with wrong screen orientation on thinkpad X230 tablet
Public bug reported: I'm quite lost as to with package I should report this issue. I report it against gnome-control-center because this is where screen settings are made. Please help and direct this report to the right place. Thank you. On a Lenovo thinkpad X230 tablet, one of the bezel buttons is bound to rotating the screen in steps of 90°. This is an improvement in raring compared to quantal, because in quantal, this button did not work at all. However, when I rotate the screen using this bezel button, shut down and reboot, the display starts up rotated 90° to the right, compared with what it was on shutdown. This is not a serious problem, but very inconvenient. It startles you quite a bit booting your computer and seeing the login screen rotated to the right. (Even the more as the touch display orientation is not changed in the same way, but that's another bug.) This problem does not appear, when the screen orientation is changed via the Display dialog from the control center. Just when using the bezel button. Note how the orange frame in the desktop switcher does not match the displayed screens. This happens after the display started up with wrong screen orientation. [Bug 961488] [NEW] Brasero does not burn DAO when burning several copies
Public bug reported: When burning an audio CD, Brasero uses disc-at-once mode, i.e., there is no gap between tracs. This works fine, unless after writing has finished, you decide to burn additional copies (as the dialog asks): Additional copies are then written in track-at-once mode, i.e., they have gaps of 2 seconds between tracs. Why does brasero use TAO für additional copies? Discs were not written on the fly, so I'd expect that the additional copies feature uses the same image as before? But obviously, it doesn't. This is a shame! Windows apps do gapless playback for ten years now, and still the framework that is supposed to be the model implementation miserably fails at playing gapless audio.
