[Bug 152279] Re: Totem gets aspect ratio wrong
This bug is 11 years old by now. For me, the bug is definitely present also with gst-launch-0.10 playbin, using 3 pivoted monitors, with 14.04LTS. Smplayer gets the aspect ratio right (make your life better and ditch totem). [Bug 504226] [NEW] [lucid] gdm crashes at start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm After today's update, gdm crashes at startup. Didn't happen with lucid upated 2 days back. With libglib2.0-0-dbg package installed, gdm spits out following backtrace (started manually, but the same happens if spawned from upstart or run from inside gdb); note that at #9 g_idle_dispatch receives dispatch=0, which is pointer to function that is called, obviously resulting in crash. [Bug 275762] [NEW] should detect that monitor was disconnected when waking from suspend
Public bug reported: I have an external monitor connected to notebook and the builtin LCD panel disabled (via xrandr). If I suspend the system and disconnect the monitor while suspended (/hibernated), the X server doesn't know about that change when waking up and hence gnome-screensaver login dialog is shown on the disconnected monitor. This results in inability to operate the computer, since the LCD panel was disabled before. Gnome-screensaver should probably, before showing the password dialog, test that the current xrandr configuration matches physically connected devices and run something like "xrandr --auto" to restore at least basic display settings. Perhaps a more robust solution would be to run an xrandr daemon that would check (say, every second) that active outputs are connected and that there is at least one active output, but that is beyond this particular bug. [Bug 178274] Re: [hardy] firefox breaks on some pages with an X error
And I confirm it for firefox-3.0 as well - it exits with different error (RenderBadPicture instead of BadAlloc): The program 'gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter)'. (Details: serial 3920 error_code 169 request_code 154 minor_code 28) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. [Bug 122043] Re: When having configured both an US English and a Spanish keyboard layout, the English layout doesn't have | (pipe) or \ (backslash) keys
I confirm this for czech+english, also linked dup #152622 with the same issue for italian+english. To summarize: if english (us, in my case; but for en_GB as well based on above comment) if secondary keyboard, the \| key behaves as on the PRIMARY (non-english) keyboard, giving respectively ù, ç and dead umlaut accent for italian (#152622), spanish (above), czech (here); with shift, it is Ç for spanish and ' (apostrophe) for czech. I reproduced this for French and Greman as well. Workaround is to swap layout order, making english primary. It seems that english keyboard definition forgets to redefine the |\ key. [Bug 62139] Re: gdm hangs altogether after timeout on the gdm socket
Back once again. I just checked if the patch applies against the exact dapper version and found out that I was accidentally working with the edgy source as the patch did not make any sense there. Of course, the gdm that was installed was (accidentally) from early edgy as well (despite /etc/apt/preferences - maybe it was pulled by some dependency?). I am so ashamed. Hence no backport will be necessary and this while bug may be just marked as invalid. [Bug 62139] Re: gdm hangs altogether after timeout on the gdm socket
"Very likely" means that it segfaults on the same line as the other bugreport says and the cause is a rather obvious possibly NULL pointer that was not handled in the previous version. I will confirm the functionality if it doesn't crash in a few days (production system). Where can I track the backport task? It was not able to find it at launchpad. Hello, the bug was very likely identified as a duplicate of GNOME#352838. (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352838). This patch fixed the problem for the reporter of that bug: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gdm2/daemon/gdm.c?r1=1.260&r2=1.260.2.1&makepatch=1&diff_format=u Please apply it to dapper-updates or dapper-security (since it may cause data loss) as soon as it is feasible. -- gdm hangs altogether after timeout on the gdm socket https://launchpad.net/bugs/62139 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 62139] Re: gdm hangs altogether after timeout on the gdm socket
I am sorry to say that after trying to make gdm dump core, I did not succeed. Any hints on that? I have "ulimit -c unlimited" (and it is reported by ulimit -a afterwards). I put "root core soft ulimited" into /etc/security/limits. After sending SIGSEGV to gdm, it silently disappears, no core in /var/lib/gdm, which is proc/PID/cwd. Bizzare. I already recompiled it with -ggdb3 to have a nice dump, but this sort of prevents it from being useful. Any hints? After that, I hope that things will move on quickly. -- gdm hangs altogether after timeout on the gdm socket https://launchpad.net/bugs/62139 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This is the log from where the error shows up, up to restart (happened friday afternoon, restarted monday). Note that the pinging from the main gdm process is not present anymore. [Bug 62139] gdm doesn't respond after timeout on the gdm socket (sending message to slave)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Since upgrade to dapper final, we experience frequent breakage of gdm on an amd64 (64-bit dapper) XDMCP server serving regularly around 40 clients. Reproducibility: happens when e.g. many people log out at the same time (once in a few days), gdm must be killed and started manually afterwards (killing all the existing sessions as well). Symptoms: slave gdm processe continue to work, but the main gdm process does not spawn new slaves, it does not ping existing ones every 15s as it does normally (from the debug syslog), does not repond to TERM (must be KILLed) - as if it were waiting for something (race?). Logs reveal the only difference between normal situation and the bug in the timeout on the gdm socket (I will attach the full log): Sep 22 14:16:40 [gdm] Sending LOGGED_IN == 0 for slave 317 Sep 22 14:16:40 [gdm] Timeout occurred for sending message LOGGED_IN 317 0 What might be the reason? In slave.c:gdm_slave_send, up to 10 attempts are made to deliver the message (select on &rfds), but select apparently return error, since the timeout never expires (otherwise, it would have to take 10s between the message sending and the timeout). PS. I compiled gdm with an added line for tracing the message sending and will post results if they are relevant.
