[Bug 1705864] Re: Nautilus no longer starts (again)
No, I haven't yet reinstalled the operating system. It's VERY tempting, due to the accumulation of bugs over time that happens on a computer, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to operate without my main computer for the 2 weeks that it takes to reinstall the operating system, applications, and configure everything again. Yes, the last time I had this issue was yesterday. I don't know of any way to make Nautilus start functioning again other than rebooting the computer. Note that this particular bug is not common. ie. It doesn't occur every day. It happens every couple of weeks on average. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705864 Title: Nautilus no longer starts (again) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1705864/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1705864] Re: Nautilus no longer starts (again)
Yes, I always tried to add each instance of this `nautilus` bug to previous bug reports for the same bug. I wasn't always able to find them, though. You might well be right. It's more than a year since I last did a fresh installation of the OS, and in fact, it has received a version upgrade in that time, which in my experience, consistently breaks bits of the system. At least this time, the computer still booted OK after the upgrade, which is a first for me. Due to the current level of accumulated quirks and errors, I am now reaching the point where it is becoming so inconvenient to persist with my current installation that I'll do a fresh installation as soon as I get the opportunity for the week or so that's required to configure the fresh installation again.
[Bug 1705864] [NEW] Nautilus no longer starts (again)
Public bug reported: I have reported this bug several times (about 5 times) before. I have not had this error occur for some weeks. I was using nautilus during my current session about half an hour ago. I have tried to start nautilus by: 1. Clicking "Show in folder" from Google Chromium browser; and 2. Clicking the "Files" icon in the Unity Launcher; and 3. Typing "nautilus" into a terminal. The best I get is the icon in the Launcher flashes as the application tries to start. 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu el_gallo_azul@W2600CR-850Pro:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Release:16.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center el_gallo_azul@W2600CR-850Pro:~$ apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installed: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 500 500 http://mirror.optus.net/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu4 500 500 http://mirror.optus.net/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 3) What you expected to happen Nautilus starts 4) What happened instead Nautilus doesn't start ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: nautilus 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-83.106-generic 4.4.70 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-83-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.9 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Jul 23 09:03:00 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-14 (1012 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-08-26 (330 days ago) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705864 Title: Nautilus no longer starts (again) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1705864/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System - About Ubuntu ubuntu 14.04 LTS 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center gnome-disk-utility:i386 3.10.0-1ubuntu3 3) What you expected to happen When I had safely removed the disk, the disk would not appear in the utility again until I had connected it again. 4) What happened instead Yesterday I looked at the external disk in gnome-disk-utility 3.10.0. When I finished, I clicked the power off icon. That caused: 1. The partitions of that disk to disappear; 2. The disk to appear a second time in the list within gnome-disk-utility, with all its original partitions; and 3. The Ubuntu has experienced an error application to start. I right-clicked on the disk in the Launcher, selected Save removal, and it worked. I plugged the disk's USB cable in again, and it mounted as normal. I then repeated exactly the steps above, except I might not have got the Ubuntu has experienced an error message. I did it all a third time. I then left the computer for about 10 hours. I just started using the computer again 30 minutes ago. The external USB disk does not appear in the Launcher. I started gnome-disk-utility to look at an internal disk, and the external USB disk still appears in gnome-disk-utility despite the fact that it is not connected. It is the dodgy version of the disk that appears (per step 2 above), with no partitions and only the text No Media where the partition descriptions would be - see screenshot http://imgur.com/XsZ3Oic ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Screenshot from 2014-12-13 07:22:27 This disk is not connected.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402071/+attachment/4279915/+files/Screenshot%20from%202014-12-13%2007%3A22%3A27%20This%20disk%20is%20not%20connected.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402071 Title: External USB disk appears but it is no longer connected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1402071/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1030207] Re: Rhythmbox stops playing near the end of an MP3 track
I probably would test it and let you know, but: 1. I only use Rhythmbox on my new computer in another room now. 2. That computer uses Ubuntu 13.04, instead of 12.04. 3. My music collection resides on an external hard disk which I leave plugged in to the computer. 4. [Bug 536766] Re: Personal file sharing preferences dialog does not offer to install needed packages
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 yesterday, because I tried Samba on Ubuntu 11.10 two days ago and everything went bad and my machine became unusable. I am very wary of (trying to use) Samba. I only want to share files between Linux machines. Yes I am trying to work out how to fix the problem of not being able to use Personal File Sharing because 'This feature cannot be enabled because the required packages are not installed on your system'. So this is a repetition of #27 above. The message itself is quite sweet, but without providing any clue of how to identify which packages are not installed, its usefulness is reduced. I've just been through each item on the first page of Google results for 'ubuntu 12.04 personal file sharing this feature cannot be enabled because the required packages are not installed on your system', but the 2 most thorough answers require Samba. A couple of others refer to Apache, but I can't work out what package/s to install. [Bug 919418] [NEW] Doesn't add new tracks to music library (music stored on external USB hard drive)
Public bug reported: This has been happening for a long time - I think more than a year. My music collection is on a USB external hard drive. Every time I use Rhythmbox, I always update some information in the ID3 tags of my music collection. I also add new music once in a while, or I use MusicBrainz Picard to correct the tags for one or more albums at a time. The problem is that when I add new music to the nominated storage location, the music does not appear in the library within Rhythmbox. I have left the application for up to 12 hours (or more) and the tracks have still not appeared. Yesterday I managed to trick the application into showing the tags by moving albums from the existing music library to another location with the new albums, and then moving the whole lot back, and then moving the new albums to the correct artist. Unfortunately, although they appear in the library, they are of course in the wrong location and are seen by Rhythmbox as 'missing files'. 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System - About Ubuntu 11.10 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center 2.90.1 3) What you expected to happen New or retagged music to appear in music library 4) What happened instead It does not appear ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-14.23-generic 3.0.9 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-14-generic i686 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Jan 21 07:23:58 2012 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) SourcePackage: rhythmbox UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-11-13 (68 days ago) ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug apport-lpi i386 oneiric running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919418 Title: Doesn't add new tracks to music library (music stored on external USB hard drive) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/919418/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 915993] [NEW] 'IP Information' is shown too short to see

Public bug reported: A recent (within the last two weeks) update of the Totem application means that I can enable the 'Subtitle Downloader' plugin now. [Bug 870522] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not add music to library from external hard drive
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal Rhythmbox 0.13.3 I've spent the last few hours today trying to get Rhythmbox to add my music collection to my library. It's set up with the hard drive as the Library Location in Edit -- Preferences -- Music and with 'Watch my library for new files' ticked.
