the issue has been fixed in gnome-mount and now gvfs as a similar issue
which is bug #208730, closing this one since the bug described there has
been fixed and there is already a new one about the gvfs change required

I noticed this the other day in Edgy. I was transfering files to my
phone over a USB cable. The phone connects as a mass storage device.
The transfer progress dialog is done in a couple seconds, but it
obviously hasn't finished copying.

delayed write (async?) behavior is used and think their files have
finished copying when in fact it hasn't actually started.
Possibly a dialog should pop up when a USB disk is mounted with
