I have an Intel Sandybridge chip, and suffer the same problem on two
laptops. The screens on both laptops just freeze mid application, then
slowly unfreeze. If music is playing, it stutters as the screen freezes.
Ram usage post freeze is about 600mb for systems settings alone. Killing

Just ran into this after on my (up-to-date) Ubuntu 13.04 after a crash
caused by power-loss. Found that removing the .Xauthority suffices to be
able to log in again.

LTS O/S. However I can not get the sound to work although it did so on
Ringtail. The 12.04 is installed alongside Windows XP SP 3 would this
