Public bug reported:
When I play a video in totem in fullscreen mode, if I press the spacebar
to pause I get a huge icon taking up to 60% of the screen. All other
commands (play, pause, forward, backward) do the same. I tried running
apt-get --reinstall install totem totem-common totem-plugins
Sorry I was out of town for a conference so was unable to respond
quickly.
I just reproduced this bug again with final 14.04, and on top of that it

(i.e. when spotify doesn't work, or when it does work). So lots of
stutters there. But different behaviour, not repeats, but continual
stuttering/broken up audio stream. Nothing in syslog for that though.

To complement what aisthesis said, now, in Ubuntu 14.04, the kb backlight
works.
It gets triggered only via the luminosity sensor, not the fn keys.
I don't recommend removing that blacklist, as its known to brick the
laptop in UEFI mode (atleast in old BIOS versions).
