The package openprinting-ppds does not contain a single ppd! Downloading
via a questionable script by http is as unsafe as downloading by hand.
Moreover it is not suitable for offline use. Sorry I can not use that
package as long as ppds + scripts are not included.

I think I found a solution. I'm on 14.10 now and logged into a guest
session and rotated the screen there. No problems there. But rotating in
my user session led to a garbled or black screen. I deleted .config/dbus
and hey, it works now! So maybe some spurious left-over setting.

first tried with the Live CD, on failing that, and thinking that suspend
might need some disk to write to for the suspend info, I did a HD
installation. But still, suspend/resume is still not working.

Ok I have run the aforementioned test with the DVI to HDMI cable and no analog
sound cable attached
and the System Setting Sound dialog set to the HDMI video card sound chip. This
does output sound from
the test application but the System Ready sound still appears to be going out
the analog
I reinstalled ubuntu and the same thing is happening. After some browsing on
you tube sound is not working anymore and some streaming bargraphs (soundcloud
ie) are going twice faster than normal and still no sound.
This bug doesn't seem to affect Mixxx which is a DJing software. Sound still
