This feels like more of a feature than a bug. It's not only useful for
testing, but a good assumption that the OSK should appear after the user
has started touching the screen. You might have a physical keyboard but
if it's a yoga-style laptop folded 180 degrees then you definitely want

I don't know if this is the same bug but since my 17.10 updated
Thunderbird to 52.4.0 I am faced with this issue consistently.
Thunderbird is unusable this way and I have manually installed a 52.3.0
version to be able to manage my e-mail.
This happens both when running under X or Wayland. Gnome
I'm happy to help. I've applied the patch from the gnome bug to a local
package build. Haven't seen the crash since but only been a day or so

I just rebased wip/ubuntu-3-26 so the patches should be good, but please

This has finally been fixed in Ubuntu 17.10 by not installing xterm by
default.
Anyone that wants to use xterm is welcome to install it and it will have
its proper icon and .desktop launcher.

I guess I'll have to go back to 16.04 or 16.10, despite someone
providing a bugfix and several people confirming it, nobody from Ubuntu
seems to care. Crazy, considering how much corporate employees depend
on such BASIC features like this working. Very disappointing.

I'm not able to spot the root cause for the problem with the ibus-mozc
