They sort of did solve this bug. Rather than using gksu and running
applications as an administrator, most applications that require
administrator-privileges use a separate background application. Those
applications have a unlock button.

The area of the greeter where one chooses the user to login as is incorrectly
drawn whenever the greeter switches from one screen to another. I created a
series of photos to illustrate the behaviour.
If I choose ANOTHER user, the greeter is redrawn correctly.
