starting 20 tabs and it never caused a system freeze.
Regarding q2, yes adblock plus and ip-domain-flag, but adblock is turned off
anyway on this specific profile with 20 tabs open on start.

In the meantime I've switched to chromium and I'm happy with it.
Currently using 16.04.4 LTS and just opened firefox 60.0.2 (64-Bit) with 20
Tabs.
Well, it is doing much better, at least the computer is still usable, but it
needs to be tested at least one day
Issue solved.
Solution:
Open Unity-plugin in CCSM.
Switch from no blur to active blur: the dash is clear - no broken graphics.
Move color from transparent up to 50 percent: all symbols in dash and launcher
appear.

After recent unity updates there is a worse case example of g-c-c UI and it's
components.
Afaik and in fact HUD appears with Alt-key.
Beside that the shortcut is wrong in g-c-c (983116):
- with german locale, the description in g-c-c [Component: Keyboard] says
something about what HUD should do
