FYI: My temporary workaround is to just have the Dock to auto-hide (for
Ubuntu 22.04). This way there are no windows that might get stuck
underneath the Dock. This essentially solves the issue in a simple way,
but the only downside is that some folks prefer to see their Dock all
the time.

I also see this happen quite often.

Scratch most of my last post. There is a problem with vdagent~, but I just
refuted my previous post. I do have the error, but I am 99.9% certain that it
does not cause the problems that I am experiencing which brought me to this bug
report. Apologies if
I am wondering if a JVM can be used to more reliably trigger the bug and
thus help isolate it? Hopefully someone else reading this has an
opinion...
Below is my experience and the reason why I am considering this idea:
I have had what I first believed were random black screens, restarts
I'm experiencing this on Ubuntu 19.04. Can this bug be re-opened or
should I create a new one?

These issues are similar to an earlier bug (#1818186) that I reported regarding
the operation of Xsane.
1) The output always contains the images of what ever is on the platen on a
"full size" white background; i.e., unlike scangearmp2, if there is a 4” x 6”
** Summary changed:
- Simple Scan does not scan only the area which is framed after "preview"
+ Simple Scan images are too dark at resolutions > 75ppi.
