My behavior:
Login as user1, switch user to user 2: Fade to black. Screen goes to sleep.
Ctrl+alt+f7 gets me user1's lockscreen.

What is your username, what entry do you pick in the menu? The
.xsession-errors is from your user or the one you try to switch to? It

Mea culpa. Those logs demonstrate a different bug (I've got too many?) with
darkening screen.
After the latest update, when I choose switch user, the screen darkens but now
moves on to the login screen as it should. It lands me there ready for the
password of the original user, but without

(not Ubuntu).
From there, choosing to Switch user gives the same behaviour as above,
though without the need for a password since Guest has none. That is, the
screen goes blank except for a top bar, and nothing more

From what I can tell it's probably an artifact from upgrading. The non
admin user account is actually still trying to call GDM to switch user,
and GDM isn't available.
I can successfully from my main user to the other user, but not from the
other user to the main user which is the one that ran
According to this forum thread:

This issue only occurs when using LightDM. When using GDM, switch user
functions as expected.
