At one point, it appeared that I was able to get my icons back by killing
gnome-settings-daemon. They would appear normal when it restarted. This does

Looks like that device isn't properly being detected, but this shouldn't
normally cause the kernel to lock up.
Reassigning to 'linux' so it can be looked at with the option driver or
part of the serial stack. We've had this kind of issues before with at
least the ZTE MF636.
Once freezes can be
sure, but there is not much to be seen on a screenshot. When I speak the
input level is not changing. I cannot use Skype and I am forced to use
Windows so that I can do my work. Any suggestion?

start a session for me. For both lightdm and gdm with any kind of
session (unity, unity2d, classic, xfce ...) the gui dies and flashes
