[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1007561] Re: Update to 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1 results in no networking

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1007133] Re: Evolution locks up under KDE in Kubuntu 12.04 when setting an alarm on an appointment
Found a workaround: When the appointment dialog does not accept any more input go to the evolution main window, right click the calendar and choose 'new appointment' again. Then a second appointment dialog is opened and now you can interact with both appointment dialogs again. Now you can save the data of the first appointment and close the second appointment dialog without saving. That way I can now create new appointments with alarms. But this bug should certainly be fixed anyway, the workaround is pretty awkward. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007133 Title: Evolution locks up under KDE in Kubuntu 12.04 when setting an alarm on an appointment Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps to reproduce the bug: Fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 with all current updates (language: german - no idea if that is important). Install package evolution. Start evolution and go through the configuration process setting up your e-mail account. Then go to the calendar and create a new appointment (right click in the calendar - new appointment). Type in the summary, then go to options-reminder/alarm (Erinnerung). Choose e. g. 15 minutes before the beginning and click on close. After that no more inputs in the appointment dialog are possible, neither mouse nor keyboard. When you click the window-close button you get the save changes dialog, which again does not accept any input - you can only close it with the window close button which brings you back to the appointment dialog. No chance to get past the save changes? dialog and thus the appointment dialog cannot be closed in any way. Closing the evolution main window and then closing the appointment dialog works, but of course, the appointment data is lost. Command line reports the following error from evolution when clicking in the appointment dialog while it is locked up: (evolution:11015): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_device_grab_remove: assertion `GDK_IS_DEVICE (device)' failed Is was able to reproduce this bug on three different computers, 32-bit AMD desktop, 64-bit Intel desktop and a 64-bit Intel notebook. When running evolution in a gnome environment on the same computers (only tested on the 64-bit Intel desktop), the problem does not occur. So this is certainly something caused by the KDE environment. But then, the problem was not there in Kubuntu 10.04. Lately, I noticed that Banshee does not always remove the selected item from static playlist, instead it removes a random item. If you try to remove song that is playing, it always stays on the playlist and instead _ another_ song is removed. That to me is really unwanted behaviour. However, even if you are playing songs from playlist1, you sometimes cannot remove a songs from playlist2. And I mean the static playlists here where you add and remove items manually. I have not found clear logic on when the selected song can be removed. Only one case is clear: when you're playing songs in order (no shuffle), you can remove selected song after 4-5 songs have been played from begin to end after the one you want to remove. However, most often when you try to remove a song from static playlist, some song is removed -usually not the one you want. I am using 10.10 Ubuntu and Banshee 1.8.1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 965921] Re: gnome-shell most keyboard shortcuts not working

Unfortunately, GNOME Shell now uses gsettings keyboard shortcuts so GNOME Shell ignores keyboard shortcut changes that get entered into System SettingsKeyboardShortcuts. This should be fixed for Ubuntu 12.10 but it's too late and complicated to fix for Ubuntu 12.04. One Workaround == Install dconf-tools Run dconf-editor Look in org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings or org.gnome.mutter.keybindings Another Workaround == Set a custom keyboard shortcut. This is useful if you want to set Ctrl+Alt+F to open Firefox for instance. In System Settings, click Keyboard. Switch to the Shortcuts tab and click Custom Shortcuts at the bottom of the list. Click the + button and add a name to remember the shortcut and the specific command you want to execute. Click Apply. Find the name in the list and click the right half of the row. Disabled should change to New accelerator. Enter the keyboard shortcut you want to use. Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal and several other usual shortcuts from Unity have been added to GNOME Shell on April 17. After a lot of years I can finally hibernate my laptop (Acer Aspire 5315). The most annoying bug that still haunts my Ubuntu installations is related to the lcd brightness. When starting up and loading the ACPI module I can see the brightness going to 100%, as soon X starts (gdm) it resets itself to the lowest setting until I login and Gnome loads its power-manager when it sets it again at maximum. If I hibernate the system, after waking up brightness resets itself to the lowest setting again. Don't know if it's a gnome related bug or a kernel one, but the problem remains. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971051] Re: no alt+tab in gnome classic session
I had the same problem after a clean install on this Acer Aspire One netbook. For me it happened with gnome classic both with and without effects. The solution keyboard settings shortcuts navigation and set switch applications shortcut to Alt-Tab. worked fine for me. I never had any problems on my other laptop. I did a clean install on that as well but starting with 12.04 beta-1 and then updating. What should happen: 1) language-pack-gnome-foonian (if your language was set to foonian) should be selected as a dependency when installing GIMP. 2) GIMP should be in your set language. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 961948] [NEW] windows can be moved into dead zones using alt+drag
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 xorg: Installiert: 1:7.6+10ubuntu1 Kandidat:1:7.6+10ubuntu1 compiz: Installiert: 1:0.9.7.0+bzr3035-0ubuntu1 Kandidat:1:0.9.7.0+bzr3035-0ubuntu1 When a window is dragged on it's window top bar, the window cannot be moved outside of the screen (or into a deadzone in a multi-monitor-setup). However when a window is dragged using the alt+drag (somewhere inside the window), the window can be moved outside those bounds. This can lead to some unexpected results, for example when a large window is moved from a bigger screen onto a smaller one, it is to large and doesn't fit. If one tries then to maximize it, it is maximized on the big screen again instead of the small one. I would expect the same behaviour indipendent on the chosen drag-method. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 927742] Re: banshee moves to next song then stops playback
I seem to be also affected by the bug. I have gapless enabled and it seems to happen randomly on tracks that play fine otherwise. Thank you Brendan_P for pointing out that disabling the gapless seems to fix it, but it can hardly be called a solution as the bug itself is still there (just not affecting you). I think the bug is a minor annoyance with low priority as the application runs fine and doesn't lock up. Though it would be nice to see a fix in the future. I'm not sure how much it helps me posting here. Should I some comment about me being affected by this as well on bugzilla#669929 ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to banshee in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927742 Title: banshee moves to next song then stops playback Status in Banshee Music Player: New Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Ubuntu 12.04 alpha 2 banshee 2.3.4.ds-1ubuntu1 Expected: songs should play fine when moving from song to song. Actual: Sometimes (and not all the time), when banshee moves to the next song (in Random and Random-Off) the song will not play. The Icon in the toolbar is in Play mode and a Play Icon shows up in the list next to the song, but the seconds do not move, and no sounds play. After a random amount of time, it *sometimes* just starts playing the song at about the place it would if it hadn't frozen, other times I have to manually double-click the current song to get it to start, or start the next song. Pressing the Play/Pause button does nothing, but double clicking the song will play it. Because these songs *will* play I don't think it is corrupt songs, especially considering the same library worked fine with bashsee in 11.10. There is no output on the terminal (w/ no switches) when this happens. My library is mostly mp3, but a smattering of FLAC, ogg, and whatever apple sells mixed in. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1001562] Re: log in password is not asked
i read your explanation. technically, this bug report can be closed as normal behaviour. however, any non-technical user will certainly have the following questions in his mind. 1. why is not the password set through passwd associated with lightdm just as it is associated with sshd? 2. when the user is doing his normal work like browsing, why is there a sudden pop up 'Enter Password To Unlock Your Login Keyring'? what should the user make out of this pop up? 3. You have written the following sentence. The root user doesn't have a password set by default, so there is no admin password to ask for in this situation. There is already an admin account created on the system. any sudo command should ask for admin account password. why is the root user coming in here? 4. You have written the following sentence. Some people prefer this functionality so that they can lock their screen when they step away. You allow users to login without passwords but system asks for password why they lock screen! what purpose is served? is the user trying to protect his account/files from unauthorized access? anyways, any day, any person can login to the account. it is left to you to decide whether the concerns are valid or not. from a normal user point of view, there are inconsistencies and user experience is not good. dont expect a non-technical user to leave his day-to-day work and go around system administration! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001562 Title: log in password is not asked Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: create a user account with no password. set new password through terminal or System Settings - User Accounts (automatic login off). log out and try to login again. actual behaviour: 1. no password is asked! and you get a pop up after logging in 'Enter Password To Unlock Your Login Keyring'. 2. when you run sudo command on terminal, it asks for user password instead of admin password! expected behaviour: 1. password should be asked. pop up should not appear. 2. admin password should be asked. note: however, when you lock screen, system asks for user password.
