Title:
Switching accounts requires password twice if account already active.
I can confirm the bug on my system it is related to a compiz crash. A
crash report is attached but I had to mangle it a bit to remove the
300MB of coredump.

Can you run those commands as root?
The fact that 'lsusb' is failing shows taht something more serious than
a failing backend is going wrong.
Please uninstall the VMWare tools too, at least as an experiment.
