Nope, doesn't look familiar. I have an AMD RX560, so there still could
be some graphical errors that intervene, even if it's kernel version

I've tried mp3, ogg, wav and aac: all fail to make audio work.
Screen shot of vlc->Tools->Preferences->Audio attached.
This command does NOT make audio work in Totem for an mp4 video file?
sudo apt remove gstreamer1.0-libav
It actually caused vlc to say that it needed the gstreamer1.0-libav

Yes you're correct in that I meant totem (not vlc) when I was referring to
playing a video file after "sudo apt remove gstreamer1.0-libav".

Just upgraded to 17.10; can't use DejaDup to backup to network NAS
drive. Got this error. Is there a workaround, or do I have to wait for
the new 18.04 release?

Seeing this issue on gnome shell after recent 17.10 upgrade from 16.04
LTS. Anytime the screen turns off, my gnome session crashes.
// seems like everything up to date with these except for xorg
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
$ cat /proc/version
Linux version
Issue is mitigated by enabling Automatic screen lock when screen turns
off.
