And to help you Fix these ISSUES for not me but ALL Ubuntu enthusiasts,
especially for newbies, as these workarounds are really only for those like
me who try very hard to solve problems!
Ubuntu will never get to mainstream unless it is (IDIOT Proof)
So here is my workaround which INDEED,
GNOME Software might be the wrong package, the MATE Software Boutique is
a different app. A quick search suggests that it might be part of the
MATE welcome center, but a look into the package couldn't confirm that.

With just one workspace enabled, several applications can be started and

No dns resolution after closing a vpn/pptp connection

Also occurs on Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon. The 2nd or 3rd monitors do not
even have to be turned on. I just have to connect to the displayLink
docking station for the flickering to start.
