[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1996490] Re: Failed to set resolutions with 2.5k@90Hz panels

2022-11-30 Thread AceLan Kao
Upgraded Jammy to xserver-xorg-core 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.4, switching to
different resolutions work well.

Upgrade Kinetic to xserver-xorg-core 2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.2, switching to
different resolutions also work well.

  Failed to set resolutions with new 2.5k@90Hz panels, the reported resolutions
from xrandr are all invalid and got blank screen.

  [Fix]
  Below commit re-calculate clock and refresh rate fixes this issue.
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/merge_requests/993

  [Test]
  Verified on 2.5k@90Hz panel laptops and my laptop 1920x1080@60Hz
  Will be tested in proposed for wider range.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Not sure if the re-calculated clock and refresh rate works for all different
panels, need to verify it wider in proposed.

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 7.4.3 for kinetic

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Kinetic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.4.3 is in its third bugfix release of the 7.4 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.4#7.4.3_release

   * Version 7.4.2 is currently released in kinetic. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.4.3 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.4.3
(that's a total of 100 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.4.3/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.4.3/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
  a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_74/1235/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
  * Automated UI tests

  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
  * [amd64]

  * [s390x] regressed and will need an expection, pending investigation
    https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152182
   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 100 bug fixes always carries the
  potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
  release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
  described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

Title:
  Wrong colors on external TV

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Hi,

  On a Lenovo Thinkpad T420, with an Intel Core i5-2520M CPU and
  integrated graphics, when using a Samsung UE40J5200AW 40in TV with a
  DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable, the colors are very
  wrong on the TV.

  This happens on a brand new Ubuntu 16.04 installation made from
  scratch, and it does not happen when I boot from a Linux Mint 17.3
  "Rosa" Cinnamon 64-bit live DVD. So same laptop, same adapter, same
  cable, same TV, and the colors are fine on the TV in this case (Mint
  live DVD). Also, when switching the laptop with a Dell running Windows
  8.1 (so the same adapter, cable, and TV are used), the colors are
  again fine.

  I have attached a picture that shows the laptop screen in front of the
  TV screen with the display mirrored. So both screens should look the
  same in the picture. But it looks like only the white color is the
  same, while the rest of the colors are very different.

  Thanks for your help,
  Alin.

  xorg freezes for long time after using virtual terminal

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu: 16.04
  xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3

  Always reproducible, steps:
  a) start computer
  b) verify that Xorg is using some 0.7% CPU
  c) f1+ctrl+shift #go to virtual terminal
  d) f7+ctrl   #back to the xorg

  Maybe 60 seconds mouse cursor can be barely moved, but keyboard and clicks
are not responding after all. After that run script for monitoring CPU usage of
Xorg.
  e)
  while [ 1 ] ; do top -b -n 1 | grep Xorg | awk {'print $9'} ; sleep 1; done

  CPU usage is almost 100% for 12...71 minutes and then calms down.

  Not sure if this relates display controllers (lspci | grep VGA):
  00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor
Graphics Controller (rev 09)
  01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 650M

  Or drivers (lsmod | grep video):

Title:
  touch is constantly jumping around (ghost touching)

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  The issue I am having is very similar to this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1574667

  Depending on what applications are running the apparently random
  behavior may increase. Sometimes it is really bad and several times
  in one second the system detects random touches around the screen. As
  a result Ubuntu automatically zooms in or out or moves the content of
  screen around or the focus is stolen. Right now as I am typing this
  bug I am getting very dizzy because the UI is constantly zooming in
  and out. I have noticed this happens a lot (A LOT!) more frequently
  when chrome is opened.

  I have tried removing a few xorg input packages as a desperate attempt
  to stop this:

  ```
  sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-libinput
  sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
  sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-wacom
  ```

  Right now my touch screen is not working and my touchpad never worked.

  I have plugged in an external mouse and it works, up until the focus gets
stolen from it by random touches around the screen. Before I
  removed libinput mouse pointer was also jumping constantly to a random
location. But since I remove libinput, mouse cursor stays where it is but
random touches seems to be happening anyway.

  This is extremely annoying behavious and is rendering my laptop
  useless.

  I am using Acer Spin 5

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998409] Re: chromium fails to start: unsupported version 0 of Verneed record

2022-11-30 Thread Dmitriy Gorbenko
Hi Chris, ok, here is the problem - i rebooted the ubuntu and it solved the
issue.
Does it make sense to run the "apport-collect 1998409" ? I just believe it
won't give you evidences which I had.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998409] Re: chromium fails to start: unsupported version 0 of Verneed record

2022-11-30 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

(this bug report can be converted into a question which is aimed at
support; see near-top-right)

To further explore this reported bug, details are required. Please
execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1998409

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

On my Ubuntu 22.10 system, I see this too on the thunderbird beta snap,

The issue *does not* happen on the thunderbird deb

the stable snap (v102.5.0-2). So on thunderbird 102 the identity panel
is populated with the expected fields.

  Ubuntu is supposed to show a browser popup window when a user connects to a

  This popup window was broken and doesn't currently show up in Ubuntu

  Original Bug Report
  ---
  After an upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to 20.10 NetworkManager no longer
recognizes captive portals.

  Attempting to run /usr/libexec/gnome-shell-portal-helper produces this
  output:

  This may be normal because of the environment, but it is the best I
  have to go on now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1983185] Re: Recent commit breaks /etc/X11/Xsession

2022-11-30 Thread Andy Spiegl
The problem is a change in the file
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/20x11-common_process-args

Replacing line 36:
STARTUP_FULL_PATH=$(command -v "${1%% *}" || true)
with this:
STARTUP_FULL_PATH=$(/usr/bin/which "${1%% *}" || true)
removes the error.

The question is now: WHY was there a change from "which" to "command
-v"?

  The issue on GNOME GitLab explains this pretty well:

  And the code in question is also in Nemo and Caja.

  History of the code: The faulty code was introduced in Nautilus 2.20,

  issue and same code in the function.

  The simplest POC I found was running this via DBus, which I'm not 100%
  sure if I've altered correctly for Nemo and Caja, but regardless for
  Nautilus this results in a crash.

Bug description:
  A bug for the triage/patching of CVE-2022-37290.

  In get_basename() and g_file_get_basename(), when the file name cannot
  be parsed, NULL is returned; Nautilus does not check this and this
  results in a NPD and a crash.

  The issue on GNOME GitLab explains this pretty well:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/2376

  And the code in question is also in Nemo and Caja.

  History of the code: The faulty code was introduced in Nautilus 2.20,
  before Nemo and Caja were forked; these file managers have the same
  issue and same code in the function.

  The simplest POC I found was running this via DBus, which I'm not 100%
  sure if I've altered correctly for Nemo and Caja, but regardless for
  Nautilus this results in a crash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998024] Re: Xorg crashes on startup if Marco window manager is used

Title:
  Xorg crashes on startup if Marco window manager is used

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-520 package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I'm running MATE desktop and I installed NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU to my
  system and Xorg crashes after entering password.

  I proceeded to run strace with startx trying to debug this and it
  seems that the window manager `marco` does some (yet unknown) command
  which causes Xorg to crash with SIGABRT (signal 6) or SIGSEGV (signal
  11) and emit stack trace:

  0: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (OsLookupColor+0x13c)
  1: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (funlockfile+0x60)
  2: ? (?+0x0)

  (EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x0
  (EE) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

  The Xorg itself declares signal 11 but `journalctl --since "5 min ago"` shows

  kernel: potentially unexpected fatal signal 6.
  kernel: CPU: 2 PID: 20660 Comm: Xorg Tainted: P OE
5.15.0-53-lowlatency #59~20.04.1-Ubuntu
  kernel: Hardware name: System manufacturer System Product Name/P8H77-M PRO,
BIOS 1505 10/17/2014

  followed with register dump.

  Before crashing, process running `marco` also emits warning which I think is
not related to the problem (it may be caused by the fact that I executed marco
with startx instead of mate-session):

  Window manager warning: Log level 128: Name
  com.canonical.AppMenu.Registrar does not exist on the session bus

  Workaround: downgrading to NVIDIA driver version 470 avoids the problem (as
suggested here:
https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/updated-nvidia-settings-now-x-wont-start/24991)

  # sudo apt install linux-modules-nvidia-470-lowlatency-hwe-20.04
  nvidia-driver-470 linux-modules-nvidia-520-lowlatency-hwe-20.04-
  nvidia-driver-520-

  I also tried version 515 and it caused the same crash.

  I'm using following kernel package: linux-lowlatency-hwe-20.04 (+
  linux-tools-lowlatency-hwe-20.04)

  I would guess that the bug is in Xorg OsLookupColor() implementation which
gets triggered by recent NVIDIA driver change.

  Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1853266
  might be related.

  All this is happen in same browser session.
  Problem also reflect on our extension that we developed for Firefox
(jsPrintSetup https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8966).
  The extension using nsIPrintSettings interface to manage print settings also
encounter problem with select destination printer.
  Independently from selected nsIPrintSettings.printerName Firefox always print
to default for operating system printer.

Title:
  Firefox don't save print settings

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Unknown
Status in Mozilla Thunderbird:
  Fix Released
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

  Environment:
  OS: Ubuntu 9.10  (Karmic Koala)
  Package: firefox-3.5 (3.5.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1)
  Problem:
  I print from firefox and change print settings, like select destination
printer, margins, header, footer and so on. In about:config option
'print.save_print_settings' is set to true. Finally do print.
  Immediately after previous print I do print again and I suspect to get same
settings (destination printer, margins, header, footer ...) that I set for last
print, but unfortunately I get default print settings (destination printer,
margins, header, footer ...).
  All this is happen in same browser session.
  Problem also reflect on our extension that we developed for Firefox
(jsPrintSetup https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8966).
  The extension using nsIPrintSettings interface to manage print settings also
encounter problem with select destination printer.
  Independently from selected nsIPrintSettings.printerName Firefox always print
to default for operating system printer.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1978295] Re: org.freedesktop.portal.OpenURI.OpenDirectory doesn't highlight the selected file

2022-11-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I installed the Chromium snap and verified that the show in folder
feature doesn't highlight the downloaded file. I installed xdg-desktop-
portal 1.6.0-1ubuntu2, logged out and logged back in and verified that
the show in folder feature now works.

I installed the Firefox snap (from the stable channel). The show in
folder feature did not work at all with either version of xdg-desktop-
portal.

I had difficulty testing whether the Wallpaper portal works. I didn't
see Wallpaper in the portal-test snap. I ended up installing the
NautilusDevel Flatpak from GNOME Nightly. I know that Nautilus 43+ only
uses the Wallpaper portal to set the Wallpaper. I successfully used
NautilusDevel to set my Wallpaper.

I believe this fix is verified now.

Title:
  org.freedesktop.portal.OpenURI.OpenDirectory doesn't highlight the
  selected file

Status in xdg-desktop-portal package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in xdg-desktop-portal source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * The OpenDirectory method of the OpenURI portal opens a file manager
  window showing the requested directory, but it doesn't select the
  passed file in that directory. This affects all users of this API,
  particularly the chromium and firefox snaps.

   * This is an upstream bug that was fixed in later versions of xdg-
  desktop-portal, this SRU backports the fix to the 1.6 series that's in
  focal.

  [Test Plan]

   * On a focal machine, install the chromium snap, launch it and download any
file from a web page (from e.g. https://kernel.org/)
   * Once the download is complete, browse to chrome://downloads
   * Click the "Show in folder" link for the downloaded file, this opens a
Nautilus window showing the contents of the default downloads directory (e.g.
$HOME/Downloads)
   * Expected result: the downloaded file is selected in the Nautilus window
   * Actual result without the patch: no file is selected

   * Similarly for the firefox snap, downloading a file and clicking the
  "Show in Folder" button in the downloads panel should select the
  downloaded file

   * General functionality of all other portals (including the wallpaper
  portal) should be thoroughly tested to look out for regressions

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The backported patches potentially affect other portals (not just
OpenURI), including the Wallpaper portal.
   * Therefore the functionality of all other portals should be thoroughly
tested to ensure there are no functional regressions.

  [Other Info]

   * The firefox snap wasn't using this API before version 103.0, which
  at the time of writing this hasn't officially been released yet (it is
  due for release tomorrow, 2022-07-26). In the meantime it can be
  installed from the candidate channel.

  [Original Description]

  This is an upstream issue (https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-
  portal/issues/564) that was fixed in xdg-desktop-portal 1.10.0.

  I'm proposing to SRU the corresponding patch to focal. This will be
  especially useful for browsers packaged as snaps (see bug #1887195 for
  chromium, and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1772063 for
  firefox).

  --
  There is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.72 series

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/2.72.4/NEWS

  Test Case 1

  glib has an extensive test suite.

  Failing tests will fail the build.
  This update will also trigger a lot of autopkgtests.

  Ensure that there aren't autopgktest regressions triggered by this
  update and that the builds complete successfully

  Test Case 2

  Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop that
you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop, that's already
tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like the terminal, the file

  This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be

returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime implications, up to
the system simply crashing all the time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998344] [NEW] Night Light doesn't alter screen display colour temperature

2022-11-30 Thread maglin
Public bug reported:

Night light turns on and off correctly (manually and automatically at
sunset/sunrise), but it has no effect on screen colour temperature. Altering
the colour temperature slider makes no difference. Changing display temperature
in dconf-editor didn't have any effect either.
Behaviour is the same in Wayland and Xorg sessions.

(Note that 22.10 is the first ubuntu release where graphics have worked at all
with this machine
(Intel® Core™ i3-10100 CPU Intel CometLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics 630])
With kernels before 5.19 the i915 driver module wouldn't load.)

I have raised the issue on ubuntu forums,
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2481261 with no indication of
it being a problem also reported by other 22.10 users, so it may be
specific to this CPU.

It also appears to be specific to gnome desktop. I have tried a Kubuntu

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1118485] Re: software sources settings do not load

2022-11-30 Thread Paul White
Unsure if this bug report was reported against the correct package.
This issue was never confirmed by another user.

Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal) reached end-of-life on May 16, 2014.

Bug description seems rather vague when using a recent Ubuntu release
so may be Unity related?

Please feel free to re-open this bug report if this is still an issue
when using a currently supported release of Ubuntu. Please make sure
you tell us with which release you still experience this issue and
which desktop environment you are using.

Thank you for your understanding.

No, I just have a Gen 6 and it's still working fine on a patched 5.17
kernel.

I wish the kernel guys weren't so dead set against loadable DSDTs.
There's still so many reasons why we need to be able to patch these
ourselves and there's no good reason to have to rebuild an entire kernel
just to add missing table entries.

I don't really have a plan of attack on this as I'm pretty busy
generally. I haven't had time to follow up with Lenovo support yet. I'm
just hoping if they get enough feedback, they'll do something.
Otherwise, maybe we can try a petition?

But you might try explaining that all you need is for Lenovo to add the
requisite info to the DSD table in a BIOS update. Linux doesn't need to
be touched at all. Just a BIOS update. Here's a working example (that I
got from https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216194):

Name (_DSD, Package (0x02) // _DSD: Device-Specific Data
{
ToUUID ("daffd814-6eba-4d8c-8a91-bc9bbf4aa301") /* Device
Properties for _DSD */,
Package (0x05)
{
Package (0x02)
{
"cirrus,dev-index",
Package (0x02)
{
0x40,
0x42
}
},

Package (0x02)
{
"reset-gpios",
Package (0x08)
{
SPKR,
One,
Zero,
Zero,
SPKR,
One,
Zero,
Zero
}
},

Package (0x02)
{
"cirrus,speaker-position",
Package (0x02)
{
One,
Zero
}
},

Package (0x02)
{
"cirrus,gpio1-func",
Package (0x02)
{
Zero,
One
}
},

Package (0x02)
{
"cirrus,gpio2-func",
Package (0x02)
{
0x02,
0x02
}
}
}
})

This information appears to be hard-coded in the drivers or related
files somehow. If this information could be determined, perhaps there
could be a kernel look up table with static values for supported
laptops?

Lenovo could easily add this information (that is specific to the given
model of laptop) in a BIOS update.

Some (many?) laptops with the CSC3551 amplifier chips have this
information in the BIOS. Not to support Linux, but because it seems
their drivers for Windows expect it to be there as well... Which leads
me to believe this is probably the approach that Cirrus Logic wants to
take (at least going forward). Perhaps models of laptop without this
info are older. Maybe not necessarily in terms of the launch date, but
design started earlier than the laptops that do have this information in
their DSDT's.
