Title:
Asus n56vz battery state is wrong or battery not charging at all.

Status in “upower” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have an ASUS N56VZ notebook. There are some bugs I have mentioned and they
are known on ubuntu forums.
Sometimes I am getting strange results in battery power state, that are not
even close to be accurate.
  So bugs are:
  1) Then I am turning on the notebok with not enough power (3% for example)
the fan is going to it`s full speed (no CPU loading at all) and the power
indicator shows that power is insufficient. Plugging the power adapter didn`t
solved the problem - it was not charging and notebook soon turns off.
  2) As I described above, I can`t feed the notebook sometimes (especially on
low battery level).
  3) I am getting the strange battery state result: sometimes it looks, that
it`s charging very slow. Am am working about a hour and my power level just
rised from 30 minutes to 40 minutes.
  4) I am not sure about this bug, may be it`s a hardware one, but then I
turned notebook off with plugged in power adapter, it was not charged at all
for the whole night!

not alone )))

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 209256]

2013-06-20 Thread Bugs-freedesktop
Comment on attachment 42713
Revised version of respect-fontconfig patch against 1.10.2 version.

Review of attachment 42713:
-

(In reply to comment #16)

Thanks for the helpful overview of the changes.

 * _cairo_ft_options_merge - changes here are small and focus on having the
 same
algorithm for all font properties: if other structure define a property (it
does not equal CAIRO_*_DEFAULT), this value will be used.

I'd like to agree in principle, but we need at least one exception to this
rule.

If FT_LOAD_NO_HINTING is not set, but hint_metrics is CAIRO_HINT_METRICS_OFF,
x_advance/y_advance metrics will not be hinted, but x/y_bearing/width/height
metrics and outlines will still be hinted.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490475#c5 says cairo PDF/PS
always embeds (and subsets) the fonts used. If subsetting fails it will
fallback to embedding a font generated from the unhinted outlines of the
glyphs.
And https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490475#c19 says Hintstyle
should also be set to none for printing although this only affects the use of
fallback fonts where cairo embeds a font created from the glyph outlines.

That means that a HINT_STYLE_NONE on the surface will need to override
fontconfig. I guess we could argue that users shouldn't have fontconfig
settings that turn on hinting if it has been turned off, but history has shown
that people will use fontconfig to turn on hinting, overriding an explicitly
set value in the pattern.

There are also times when the font_options should be able to override the
cairo antialias option from fontconfig. This would be beneficial if the
destination surface is monochrome or grayscale and so doesn't support the same
antialiasing options, or if the destination is a translucent part of a
CONTENT_COLOR_ALPHA surface and so component-alpha will be lost before the
glyphs are composited onto an opaque background (leading to excessive color
fringing). I think what we want for cairo antialias is not a priority of
fontconfig over other interests, but the greatest common method among those
supported and desired. The current code doesn't provide this exception,
however.

 * _get_pattern_ft_options - this routine loads FontConfig information into
 cairo_ft_options_t structure.

** The most significant change here covers the fact, that hinting information
wasn't processed if antialiasing was switched off.

Yes, processing hinting and hintstyle to determine whether to hint seems the
right thing to do (even if I don't know of a good reason, apart from testing
perhaps, why anyone would want to turn off hinting through fontconfig if
antialias has been set to false).

** Another change in behavior applies to antialiasing information - basically
there are 7 different combination of FontConfig properties ('antialias' and
'rgba') values that define different behavior, but they cannot be naturally
represented in cairo_ft_options_t structure (in theory it could be done, but
with extremely nasty approach). As changing the contract and defining
additional value for _cairo_subpixel_order type would be rather wrong idea,
 the
routine will assume user wanted to switch on antialiasing when the 'rgba'
 property is defined.

There is an awkwardness in the mapping from fontconfig's rgba to cairo's
subpixel_order and antialias. It looks like the current
_get_pattern_ft_options code is not achieving the desired result here because
there is no SUBPIXEL_ORDER_NONE and it doesn't change antialias from DEFAULT
to GRAY for FC_RGBA_NONE, and so it won't override a surface default
ANTIALIAS_SUBPIXEL. A SUBPIXEL_ORDER_NONE would be worth considering
as there are device surfaces that are not linear arrays of RGB colors.

The patch also sets ANTIALIAS_SUBPIXEL if the pattern has antialias == true
but FC_RGBA_UNKNOWN or missing. I'm cautious about the benefit of this change
as antialiasing would be the default in _cairo_ft_options_merge anyway. I
guess this is so that someone can have antialias turned off on the screen
settings but enable it through fontconfig only for certain fonts.

However, this would turn on grayscale aa for surfaces with ANTIALIAS_NONE, and
perhaps even subpixel aa for surfaces with antialias GRAY or NONE, if the
subpixel_order has not been cleared out. Those could both be less than ideal.
Clients would not expect to have to clear out the subpixel order because the
documentation says subpixel order is only used when rendering with an
antialiasing mode of CAIRO_ANTIALIAS_SUBPIXEL. These issues already can
happen when fontconfig has rgba set, but I fear this part of the patch would
not move things in the right direction.

The Fc prefix indicates a fontconfig symbol but FcUndefined is not a
fontconfig symbol. Perhaps it would be better/clearer to just use -1, though
assigning a non-true/false value to FcBool doesn't feel quite right, even if
it really is just an int. It looks

(In reply to comment #15)
 (In reply to comment #14)
Fontconfig doesn't know whether the text is being rendered to an LCD screen
  or
a printer, so fontconfig needs to be told subpixel order and whether
  hinting is
  appropriate.

I admit I don't know how printing specific rendering is being done. Is it that
antialiasing and hinting are turned off because printer resolution is much
higher than screen and it wouldn't make sense to leave them on? (no visible
 effect?)

Not just that the printer resolution is higher, but the resolution may not
even be known at the time of generating the PDF or PS output.

Ok, I configured in the fontconfig file, but it didn't make any

I googled for quite a long time and finally I got one solution.

In the file cairo-ft-font.c, in function _cairo_ft_options_merge, just

and recompile, now everything works fine. The fonts are rendered

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1184085] Re: Xorg server crashes when drawing dashed circles

@Chris: is there an upstream bug to link?
I hoped that the last update to X that entered this morning could have fixed

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173967] Re: fglrx and fglrx-updates not working (Ubuntu 13.04)

2013-06-20 Thread hkais
hello all,

I have the same issue.
I am running a AMD/ATI RV620/M82 mobility
lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI
RV620/M82 [Mobility Radeon HD 3450/3470]

As I could find out AMD has stopped the support of the chip so the new
drivers wouldn't support the old card. Damn, the notebook is a litte
more older than 3 years. Have I to switch my hardware every time a
driver gets unavailable? I hate it really, the crap with the proprietary
drivers... I do not play, do not use 3D but I need a fast desktop for
work.

Okay enough of my pain.
Here the supported chips
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/amdcatalyst13-4linreleasenotes.aspx

You could try to downgrade your drivers AND your x-server with the ppa
https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx

and here a duplicate entry
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1184339

hope it helps

Bug description:
I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.04, then to solve the overheating problem
with open source drivers, tried to install the proprietary ati drivers from the
update manager.
Both not worked, leaving the system with only the wallpaper and the mouse
pointer.

Same story with the ati installer (catalyst 13.4). I tried both,
generating packages for Ubuntu and using the .run installer itself.
  Always wallpaper and pointer.

It seems that no installation of ati drivers is possible on Ubuntu
  13.04.

  I have a Radeon HD 6770M / Intel system.

Title:
Local .deb lacks screenshot+icon and displays poorly in
  Installed+History

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Various installers create local deb packages that can then be installed via
software-cetner. There are various issues here:
  - no screenshot
  - no icon
  - not visible under installed unless update-apt-xapina-index is run
  - hidden in the history window under Unknown

There should be a way (maybe via additional json metadata for those
local debs) to fix those problems.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 575877] Re: gnome-keyring mysteriously asks for keyring password on startup

2013-06-20 Thread markling
This problem has arisen periodically for years. It has just arisen again
on my computer. I've been running Xubuntu 13.04 since April. It just now
started to ask me for a keyring password.

It says (and apologies - I shall have to report the precise message at
next startup) - it says something like 'keyring password not set at
startup'.

The keyring password request occurs apparenlty randomly. And when it
comes it prevents user access to all other programs. Unless you shut
down the computer, you have to give it your system password.

I second Alroger: this is most offensive behaviour. I don't want to give
my password out to any popup - especially one that is random, erroneous
and unexplained. Every time it happens I feel like I'm being fleeced by
some phishing scam.

I suspect it may have something to do with the Ubuntu Software Centre.

The keyring problem started happening after I accessed the Software
Centre's user account recently. It asked for a keyring password. It came
up again when subsequently I opened the Software Centre just to download
some software. And now it has stuck around. The kering just pops up at
random in a session. It's been a few days, at a guess.

gnome-keyring mysteriously asks for keyring password on startup

Status in “gnome-keyring” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

I recently (yesterday) upgraded from Karmic to Lucid. Now whenever I start
up, gnome-keyring asks me for my keyring password. Note that I use a password
to log in, and I also have a keyring password. So I am not using auto-login.
What confuses me is that I cannot tell what application is trying to access the
keyring. And when I am asked for my password, I am unable to switch to other
applications, e.g. terminal, to perform any debugging.
This behavior did not occur before the upgrade.
As far as I know, I should not have to enter my keyring password until
something actually has to use the keyring. And it should only unlock that
portion of the keyring that it uses. But the dialog I get provides me with no
information other than an application wants to access the keyring.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1137817] Re: [ivb] System freeze after high memory usage

2013-06-20 Thread rsoika
I think now that the freeze is triggered by a temperature problem.
We have here in Germany at the time a relatively high external temperature of
30 ° Celsius and freezes take significantly.
Is there a way to verify this aspect?

Title:
[ivb] System freeze after high memory usage

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have randomly system freezes on Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit since I installed my
system on a new blank ultrabook (Wortmann Terra Mobile 1450 II) in December
2012.
When the system freezes no mouse , no keyboard, no REISUB is possible. The
screen is corrupted and did not update. The only key board functionality which
is still possible is Fn+F9 (switch display on/off). I need to switch off the
system hard.

The freeze occurs when the system runs on battery as also when it is plugged.
When the system freeze occurs with power adapter plugged the system switches
off when I disconnect the power adapter - even if the battery is full charged.
But the powermanagement in general seems to work perfect in Ubuntu 12.10.

To me it looks like the system freeze occurs often after high memory usage.
I can use the system with a few applications (Thunderbird / Firefox) for long
time (several hours) without any freeze.
But when I start java programming the probability increases that the problem
occurs. This means:
I start Eclipse 4.2, MySQL and GlassFish 3.2 Server. I open a lot of browser
windows and read and write much files to disk.
The memory usage in this case increases from less then 1GB to more than 3GB
(on total 8GB Ram) - I do not know if this is relevant - but maybe.
I observe the situation for more than two months. As I use my system for work
I have freezes one or two times a day - mostly when I have much work ;-) I
develop JEE server business applications - so in the situation when the system
freezes there is really no heavy graphic load. I am using Gnome Shell.
The freeze seems to be absolutely randomly - I can not reproduce the system
freeze.

I can not be sure but it seems to me that since yesterday the system
shuts down after some seconds when it feezes. I notice this because I
tried to login via ssh to collect the data of the file
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state. But as the system shuts down
I was not able to check the content.

want then I want to press down to go to the lower one when focus is on
the top one. I actually have to press right. If I press left

left, and once to go down to the application window I am aiming for)

switcher to the right of the one I am trying to get to. Then I have to
go left again, to get on the correct type of application. Down to
expand the icons and right to go down to get to the window I have been
trying to get to all along.

  2. Focus one of it
  3. Press alt+tab slow enough so that the Alt+Tab switcher appears

Broken switcher behavior, wrong order of switched applications.

  Original description:

Open two windows of the same application.
Switching between them with fast alt-tab where the switcher doesn't appear

Bug description:
Mark has asked us to consider retiring the notification area whitelist
for 12.10. The application indicator system has been in place for two
years now, which should be long enough for applications to adopt it.

If the whitelist was retired, Java and Wine would be hard-coded as the
only software still able to use the menu bar as if it was a
notification area, because their developers don't necessarily know
  that Ubuntu even exists.

Bug description:
Currently when the user installs an app from a Dash App Previews, an
animation is triggered whereby the icon travels downwards from the BFB
(Dash launcher icon) to it's new location in the Launcher. This is
  incorrect.

The animation should start at the app icon *inside the preview* (the
icon to the top right side of the preview image), and show the icon
travelling from this location to it's new position in the launcher
(the end position in the current animation is correct).

So when the user clicks 'install', two things should happen simultaneously:
  1) The Dash closes
  2) The app icon travels from the location it was a moment ago inside the app
preview across the screen to it's new location in the Launcher

Acoording to the short cut keys lists, ctrl + super + down should restore a
window and then minimize.
It does restore from full maximize, but it no longer minimizes the window.
Also, super+ (any arrow key) now also bring up the shortcuts cheat sheet (the
one you get when you long hold the super key)
and the only way to make it go away is to tap super twice again.
It is mildly annoying, and I'm pretty sure that's not intended behavior.

  -
  Desired Solution:

  - If the focused window is in the 'restored' state, pressing ctrl +
super + down should minimise the window.

  - If the focused window is in the 'maximised' state, pressing ctrl +
super + down should restore the window.

Bug description:
When a Preview needs to fetch online data, it can take a moment before being
displayed.
After a click on a result, there is no visual feedback on what is happening
and no way to know if the click has been acknoweldged by the Dash.

This could be fixed in different ways:

  - Showing a spinner on the result icon.

  - Showing a spinner on the cursor.

  - Instantly opening the preview pane, with, as a transition : the
result icon on the left pane, the result title on the right, a spinner
on top (the same as the one appearing when navigating between
previews) and updating the content when the actual preview data is
  here.

  ---
  Desired solution:

When the user opens a preview that is not pre-chached, the preview
should open instantly, and the content should then load into the
already opened preview. A spinner can be displayed in the place of
the image to inform the user that the preview is loading.

Bug description:
The Launcher should provide instant visual feedback when a user clicks
on a icon to launch an application.

At the moment clicking on a Launcher icon to launch an application
starts a slow pulsing animation while the application loads. However
because the animation fades in slowly after the click, the
responsiveness of the Launcher is being perceived as slow.

  Desired resolution:

The following animations for when a user clicks on a Launcher icon to
Launch an application should be tested:

  a) Outerglow instantly switches on for a short set duration (fraction
  of a second)

  b) Icon glow instantly inverts, and then pulse animation starts
running from the inverted state. If backlight mode is set as 'always
on', this means that on click the backlight instantly switches off.
If backlight mode is set as 'toggles', this meas that on click the
backlight instantly switches on. After this instant state inversion,
the normal pulse animation starts running.

  c) Any other ideas you think of ;-)

After these transitions are implemented they will need to be tested by
design where the single option that will ship with 12.04 will be
  chosen..

Dash - the Decade and Size dash filter category widgets are broken

Status in Ayatana Design:

Status in Unity:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
There are a number of issues with theDecade and Size dash filter
  category widgets.

As this widget follows the same design pattern as used by the
musicovery.com decade filter, the first step to understanding these
issues is to have a good play with the musicovery.com implementation.
To find this widget in musicovery.com, click on anything inside the
mood box on the home page (e.g. the word 'dark') and then look at the
decade range filter that is then presented underneath the mood box.
Specifically examine how this widget responds to both cursor drag and
  click interactions.

  Desired Resolution:

  - Implement drag interactions.

  1) Dragging from a selected segment to a non-selected segment
  increases the selected range.

  | |###|###|###| | |- pointer over item, button pressed
    ^

  | |###|###|###|###| | - pointer dragged 1 to the right with button
pressed
    ^

  2) Dragging from the selected segments at the far left or right of
the range back over other selected segments, deselects the segments
the pointer passes over (but not the segment the pointer is over at
the moment the left button is released)

  | |###|###|###|###| | - selection before user interaction

  | |###|###|###|###| | - pointer over last item, button pressed
    ^

  | |###|###|###| | | - pointer dragged 1 to the left with button
pressed
    ^

  - Correct the height of this widget to match the design

  - Correct the corner radius of this widget to match the design.

  - Correct the click interactions. Clicking on a item in the range
should select only that item, and deselect all other items.

Nick Dedekind - Split into new bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/1092872
  - Remove the ellipsising (...) of filters too long to fit into their box.
Each notch's box only needs to be length of it's label (they don't all need to
be the same width). See the visual design.

May be unity2d should use different shotcut for mainmenu?

  ---
  Desired resolution:

  - The F10 shortcut should be changed to Alt + F10. No F keys
should ever be used for shell shortcuts without an additional modifier
key. This change brings the shortcut into line with the Alt +F1
  Launcher keyboard navigation shortcut.

  - The menu key should perform the same function as Alt + F10 (display
menus). A nice to have gold plating feature would be to detect if a
menu key is present on the keyboard, and if it is display the 'menu'
key shortcut in the shortcuts overlay in place of Alt + F10

  - The Alt + F5 becomes a toggle, shifting the window between
restored and maximised states (replacing the previous windox maximise
  Alt + F10 shortcut)

  -
Workspace switcher should not be in the Launcher by default.

  - The workspace switcher should not be in the Launcher by default
(both on fresh installs and upgrades)

  - Dragging and dropping the workspace switcher into the Trash should
remove the icon from the Launcher and disable workspaces

  - It should be possible to drag and drop the workspace icon to place
it into any position in the Launcher

  - If the workspace switcher is not present in the Launcher, all other
workspace functions and touchpoints on the desktop should be disabled.
  These touchpoints are:

-- The Alt+Space window accessibility menu
-- The 'right click on window title bar' menu
-- The workspace shortcuts listed in the SUPER key keyboard shortcuts overlay
-- All workspace related keyboard shortcuts

Are there any other workspace touchpoints that I have missed? If so
please add them in comments on this bug and I will update the bug
  description.

  Preferred method of enabling workspaces

  - The workspace switcher should be available in the Dash App Lens, so
that users can add the workspace switcher to the Launcher by dragging
  and dropping from the Dash.

  - On a fresh install, the workspace switcher should appear underneath
the Most Frequently Used category header in the App Lens. As a user
starts to use applications the normal ranking algorithm should apply,
so if a user does not use the workspace switcher it should drop down
the Most Frequently Used order, until it eventually no longer
  appears underneath this category header.

  - A user should also be able install workspaces from the 'Themes and
Tweaks' section of the Software Centre

  Fallback method of enabling workspaces

  - Add checkbox to 'System Settings / Appearance / Behaviour' to enable
  workspaces

  - This should be displayed as:

  Reveal sensitivityLow |-High
  --
Enable workspaces [] Add show desktop icon to Launcher []
  --
  Restore Default Behaviours

At the moment the autoscroll is too slow.

  Desired solution:
  - Make the auto-scroll more progressive, e.g. the scroll speed starts slower
when the cursor enters the scroll zone, and becomes faster when the cursor is

Considering a playback of 30fps, the formula should look like:

  SCROLL_AREA_HEIGHT = 24px;
  speed = (SCROLL_AREA_HEIGHT - mouseY) / SCROLL_AREA_HEIGHT * 30;

I appreciate this probably isn't a priority, but for a future release
it would be good seeing as it's the little details that matter.

  --
  Desired solution:

  - When an app is fullscreen (fullscreen, not maximized) on a monitor,
but another program is focused on the other monitor, the unity menu
bar should not be displayed on the monitor that is displaying the
  fullscreen app.

  - When fixing this bug, also look at bug #1065425

  WORKAROUND FOR THIS BUG:
Turn Always On Top on via right-clicking the titlebar of your window,
before making it go fullscreen.
This will prevent the Unity panel from rendering on top of this
fullscreen-window, when using the other screen.

Bug description:
When you click on the trash icon multiple times, it will keep opening
  new windows.

Instead it should bring the open window to focus. I can not think of
any circumstances where two trash windows are necessary. But in case
it ever is, a Open new window entry should be in it's quicklist.

  ---
  Desired Solution:

  - If a 'trash' Nautilus window is already open, clicking on the Trash
Launcher icon should focus the already open Nautilus window that is
  currently displaying the trash

  - However 'window open' or 'running' triangles *should not* be
displayed (on either side of the Trash icon)

Multi-monitor - Add 'sticky edges deactivated for number of

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Released
Status in Unity:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  To reproduce:

  1. Using a computer with two monitors, set the Launcher to 'auto-hide'
  and sticky edges to 'off'

  2. Set the 'sticky edges deactivated for number of milliseconds after
the user breaks the barrier' variable in CCSM to 1000ms

  3. Move the pointer over the boundary from the left screen to the
right screen slowly, and then try to move it back again (within 1
  second).

What currently happens: the pointer gets caught on the Launcher reveal
edge resistance on the left edge of the right monitor

What should happen: There should be no resistance when the pointer
comes back across the barrier because the barrier was already broken
inside 1000ms when the pointer moved from the left monitor to the
  right monitor.

Also: set the value of the variable to 1000ms

Add 'sticky edges deactivated for number of milliseconds after the
user breaks the barrier' variable to CCSM. This variable would de-
activate sticky edges for a set number of milliseconds every time
after the user's pointer moves from one monitor to another.

In addition to the 1000ms barrier switch off timer, the barrier should
also only be switched off for only one crossing e.g. so that if the
user tries to correct an accidental crossing of the barrier they can
do so with no resistance, but after correcting this accidental
crossing the barrier is switched on even if 1000ms has not yet
  elapsed.

The idea behind this behaviour is to allow the user to course-correct
after they have broken through the barrier the first time.

When a app is automatically placed in the Launcher after being
installed from the Software Center, it should be in the 'not running'
state. Currently a hollow triangle is placed on the left side of the
icon of the newly installed application and this is wrong.

  1. Install Chrome from the Software Centre
  2. Look at the Chrome icon that has been placed in the Launcher

  Current incorrect behaviour:
  - To the left of the Chrome Launcher icon a hollow triangle is displayed (the
same triangle that is used to designate that a application is running on a
different workspace). This is incorrect

  What should happen:
  - After a application has been installed but before the user has launched the
application there should be *no* triangles or pips of any kind on either side
of the icon. The application should be in the Launcher, but in a non-running
state.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081843] Re: [FFe] Launcher, Window Management - More Effective window switching for apps with multiple windows using the Launcher

[FFe] Launcher, Window Management - More Effective window switching
for apps with multiple windows using the Launcher

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Released
Status in Unity:
  Fix Released
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
It would be very useful if you could simply hover over an icon of an
open app and scroll with the mouse wheel to switch and highlight
between the windows of that app, if it has more.

  -
  Desired resolution:

Try implementing the following as an experiment. Before the change
described below lands in Ubuntu *it must first be user tested, and
  reviewed by the design team*

If the pointer is positioned over the Launcher icon of an application
that is in focus which has multiple windows open in the following
  order A,B,C,D,E:

  - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'one click towards the user' should display the
next window (B) of the application in the Z stack. e.g.
  Starting Z stack order: A,B,C,D,E
  Output Z stack order: B,A,C,D,E

  - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'one click away from the user' should display the
bottom window (E) in the application in the Z stack
  Starting Z stack order: A,B,C,D,E
  Output Z stack order: E,A,B,C,D

  - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'two clicks towards the user' should first
briefly display the next window of the application in the Z stack (window B)
after the first mousewheel click, and then on the second mousewheel click
return window B to it's previous position in the z-stack and display window C.
  Starting Z stack order: A,B,C,D,E
  Output Z stack order: C,A,B,D,E

  - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'two clicks away from the user' should first
briefly display the bottom window of the application in the Z stack (window E)
after the first mousewheel click, and then on the second mousewheel click
return window E to it's previous position in the z-stack and display the next
most bottom window, window D.
  Starting Z stack order: A,B,C,D,E
  Output Z stack order: D,A,B,C,E

  - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'three clicks towards the user' should first
briefly display the next window of the application in the Z stack (window B)
after the first mousewheel click, and then return window B to it's previous
position in the z-stack and briefly display the next window of the application
in the Z stack (window C) after the second mousewheel click, and then on the
third mousewheel click return window C to it's previous position in the z-stack
and display window D.
  Starting Z stack order: A,B,C,D,E
  Output Z stack order: D,A,B,C,E

  - etc, etc... for more windows and more mouse wheel clicks in either
  direction.

If the application *is not* in focus when the user moves their pointer
over the Launcher app icon, the first mouse wheel click towards or
away from the user should focus the application, and bring the top
most window in the application's z stack to the front of the global z
stack. Subsequent clicks of the mouse wheel the operate exactly as
  described above.

If the application is not running, or has only one open window mouse
wheel clicking towards or away from the user when the pointer is over
the application's launcher icon should do nothing.

Because this behaviour will conflict with the current use of the mouse
wheel to scroll the launcher, the mouse wheel launcher scroll should
be changed to only work when the ALT key is held down. e.g. to scroll
the launcher with the mouse wheel the user will have to press ALT +
MOUSEWHEEL UP or press ALT + MOUSEWHEEL DOWN

  -
Additional test case defining the interaction with minimised windows:

hyia, minimised windows should be at the back of the stack. So if App
1 has have windows A, B, and C (stacking order) and you minimise
window A, and then focus App 2, when you move your pointer over the
launcher icon of App 2 and scroll the mousewheel one click, window B
should appear. Moving the mouse wheel one more click should then show
window C. Moving the mouse wheel one more click should then show
window A. Moving the mouse wheel one more click should then show
window B. Moving the pointer so that it is no longer over the
launcher icon of app A at this point should focus window B. Window A
  should remain minimised.

  [Impact]

   * Applications icons size is often only 64x64px, and Unity scales
these icons to 96x96 in the More suggestions category, this leads to
  visible pixelization of the icons.

  [Test Case]

   * Open applications lens (Super+A), observe that some icons look pixelated
before the fix.
   * After applying the fix, the size of the icons in the More suggestions
category should be limited to 64px.
   * Note that the ribbon with the price should stay the same size as before
applying the fix (as if for 96px icon)

  [Regression Potential]

  - no icons appear in the More suggestions category (only an icon showing
white sheet of paper)
  - icons in music/video lens' More suggestions end up being limited to
64x64px

  Original description:

The icons in the App Lens and Dash Home for software that is
'available to download from the software centre' are too large.

The icons for applications in the Dash Home and the Apps Lens need to
be the same size regardless of whether the app is already installed or
whether it is available to download from the Software Centre.
However the icons for magazines that are available from the Software
Centre can be larger, e.g. the same size as the album covers, image
  thumbnails, etc...

Note that for 12.10 'price ribbon' should not be overlaid on top of
the 'More suggestion' icons in the App Lens.

Add overlay scrollbars to the Dash. The scrollbar behaviour should be
identical to Cimi's GTK overlay scrollbars. Use vertical white line for the
position indicator see

for visual design (as opposed to vertical orange line in the GTK version).

  2. Try to scroll the page with a trackpad or mousewheel.
  3. Click a link to another page on the same site.
  4. Click the link again.
  5. Repeat steps 2~4 a few more times.

  What happens:
  1. A web app prompt appears.
  2. The prompt blocks scrolling with trackpad/mousewheel.
  3. The prompt also blocks your first attempt to click something on the page.
  5. The prompt reappears on every single page.

This is terrible design. Sometimes Web sites do something like this on
the first or second page you visit in a session: putting up an
advertisement or an invitation for a survey, that you can click
outside to return to the page. But if any site did that on *every*
page you visit, nobody would visit that site any more. So this is
appropriate behavior only if you don't want any non-Ubuntu Web site to
ever adopt the web apps feature.

  What should happen: either
  * the prompt appears only once per site per Firefox session, or
  * the prompt appears only once per site per day.

Alternatively the status could be displayed at the bottom of the

Bug description:
The Launcher icon alert animation should repeat with decreasing
frequency until user reveals the Launcher. This is Unity's way of
notifying you that a window has been updated.

Currently when a application issues an alert command to the Launcher
and the Launcher is hidden, the icon (but not the Launcher) pops out
on to the desktop and performs a short wiggle. If the Launcher is
hidden and the user does not spot this single alert, there is
currently nothing visible on the screen to notify the user that the
application has a outstanding alert signal.

  Desired Resolution:

  - When a application issues an alert and the Launcher is hidden, the
application icon should pop out, wiggle, then hide again, with decreasing
frequency for a total of 32 minutes.
  - The application icon should pop out at the following intervals after the
alert is issued: 1 minute, 2 minutes, 4 minutes, 8 minutes, 16 minutes, 32
minutes.
  - As soon as the user reveals the Launcher, all applications that have
current outstanding alerts should do a short wiggle inside the Launcher. The
current outstanding alerts are then all cancelled (the icons will stop popping
out and wiggling) .
  - When the Launcher is visible, application alerts should should be indicated
by a short wiggle (in addition to the existing blue pips). This short wiggle
should not repeat.

Launcher - Unity should automatically select Keep In Launcher for
  icons that are sorted

Status in Ayatana Design:

Status in Unity:
  Fix Released
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Bug:
After opening an application, sorting it in the launcher and then closing the
application the icon disappears.

  Solution:
After opening an application, it should be understood that sorting it means
you want to keep it in the launcher. This option should be automatically
checked after drag/dropping an icon that isn't already sent to stay. Note that
if a user then chooses the option to un-pin the app icon from the Launcher, it
position should still be remembered next time the app is started, see bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/772517

  Why this solution is better:
Typically, when a user sorts an icon it shows intent to keep the icon
displayed among the others. This would also save the user one manual step of
clicking Keep in launcher when they expect that to be the behavior of sorting.

  4. Observe that a facebook login form loads in the control center panel
instead of an external browser, with a security warning.

[Regression Potential] None: the current situation is completely
broken as long as facebook does this http redirect during auth. This
fix just allows that http request.

  -
  Desired resolution:

Users should be warned about security passively with a notice of the
security status on the page, rather than interrupting the page-flow.

The security status should be displayed as an icon text. The best place for
the status is to the bottom left of the frame, balancing the legal notice link.
Alternatively the status could be displayed at the bottom of the
web-authentication area.
  - The icon should be similar to the icon used in the browser (browser phablet
app).
  - The text should be a description of the page security.

If the current focused window is in this list, it should be

window you are trying to give focus to.

  Example:

2 Chrome windows open, call it Window A and Window B.
  Window B has focus.
  Right click on chrome's launcher.

  Current behavior:
  Window A
  Window B

  What it should be:
  Window A

If user wants to use mouse, it is unclear which applications own the
auto-complete suggestions beyond the first in the list. User cannot
discover which application owned the action in the HUD auto-complete
list until after he clicks it. A screenshot is attached showing the
problem (which applications own the two Preferences entries?).

  Solution:

Update the auto-complete suggestion list focus on mouse-over. This
way, when the user goes to click an entry, the focus will change to
where user's mouse is pointed, and the dash icon will update to the
icon of the application that owns the entry. The user will know which
application he is about to act upon.

  Desired Solution:

Update the auto-complete suggestion list focus on mouse-over. This
  means:

  - move the focus box

  - update the app icon to reflect the currently focused app

  - update the gray auto-complete text in the search box (when this is
implemented, this feature is not in the 12.04 implementation of the
  HUD)

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unity

When I click the Trash icon on the launchbar in Unity it opens a trash
folder, if I then click the Home icon in the launch bar, nothing
happens. I'd expect it to open a window with the contents of the Home
folder. I tried right-clicking the Home icon hoping that I might be
able to launch it that way (which works in DockBarX), but that doesn't
help either. Essentially once the Trash folder is open the Home
button is disabled. This is inconsistent with the way the Trash
button works (I can launch multiple Trash folders by clicking the
Trash icon). This is doubly painful because the new top menu can't
seem to find any folder I type in (i.e. /home/username doesn't find
the appropriate folder), so there's no easy way to open a folder
  through the interface now.

  Desired resolution:
  - If the Trash is open, but no other Nautilus window is open, clicking on the
Nautilus launcher icon should open a new Nautilus window.
  - If Nautilus window(s) (other than the trash) are open but not focused,
clicking on the Nautilus launcher icon should bring the most recently focused
Nautilus window back into focus.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2013-06-20 Thread Margarita Manterola
Small extra piece of info. I haven't been able to reproduce the bug in
a freshly installed Ubuntu machine running Unity, although I can
reproduce it inside cinnamon. However, I'm currently seeing the bug
under Unity (not a freshly installed machine). So I'm thinking that
there's some setting that differs from the default installation that
causes this. I'm trying to track this setting down.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2013-06-20 Thread Colin Watson
I released 0.8-0ubuntu2.2 to quantal by mistake before noticing that
this bug was still verification-needed. However, I think that was
artificial; 0.8-0ubuntu2.1 had already been copied to quantal-updates
and was the version containing the fix for this bug; it's just that the
.changes file for 0.8-0ubuntu2.2 was generated with respect to
0.8-0ubuntu2.

If this release was a problem, please let me know on IRC and we'll see
what we can do about it.

Bug description:
[Test Case] Sometimes after one day, sometimes after one week, the
system indicator will turn red and the Google account will be marked
as needing reauthentication. Time can vary, but any period shorter
than one month is a symptom of the bug.

[Regression Potential] Minimal: the change to the Google plugin (in
account-plugins) simply changes the authentication method, in a way
that is well-documented. The change in signon-plugin-oauth2 affects
only those accounts/providers which use the OAuth refresh tokens --
which is only Google, at the moment -- and in a way that can't
possibly break any existing functionality; if the new code had some
mistake, the refresh token would be unusable and the system would
automatically fall back to requesting a new access token (which is
exactly what happens now, with this bug).

  I'll try to find why the account-plugins package was not uploaded;
indeed, both are required in order to fix this bug.
