have fixed the problem for me. It's only been five minutes, but I've
tested the situations that were most frequently exhibiting this problem
(editing files in Vi within Guake while using pageup/pagedown to scroll,
and scrolling
I'm not working on Compiz/Unity anymore, but I agree with the bug
description and the comments to where compiz/unity headed to today.
We had a lot of stability problem at the time, hence this helper to
reset unity (which is never used in the session itself to start unity).

Thank you Hartmut, this works for me too.
In addition to rebooting I also had to remove and then re-
add/pair/connect/select the headphones in Sound Settings/switch to A2DP
before the headphones would work.
As a note there are some peculiar quirks for me:

Hello! As I wrote in bug 1296275, that version indeed had a bug. Can you
please re-try with current utopic which has 2.5.4-1ubuntu3?
Alternatively you can wait until 2.5.3.1-1ubuntu2.2 appears in trusty-
proposed (not accepted yet by the SRU team). Sorry about the confusion!

[regression] GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion
On Firefox Nightly, on Icewasel 32, Icedove 30 on debian sid i get only
this error in console but the software works.
I think that a fix improve the perfomance in many distro, if the
software crash on ubuntu or other I think would exist many reports of
crash about this.
In the italian community
Firefox not crash, the error appaer only in the shell (even in the
nighly).
