It works for me with gnome-screensaver 2.30, firefox nightly 2014-08-30,
both with and without fullscreen. Sometimes screensaver stiil appears
after ~ 25 minutes of video (but it's configured to get activated after
2 minutes), so it's another problem.

'force window to top' enabled in preferences opening the dash steals

One option
Just confirming quickly: I reproduce this bug with --enable-mergedlibs

Thanks Pete, so glad I found your comment. I was struggling trying to
understand why it would work as root and not as normal user. Initially I
was looking for some udev rules (permissions etc), but in the end
through strace it turned out to be what is described here.
What is lost by disabling
[7f909958] vdpau_avcodec generic error: decoder profile not
supported: 6 means that:
1) your libavcodec installation does support VDPAU properly, and
2 ) your VDPAU driver does not support H.264 decoding at all (or reports
incorrect capabilities).

Nils Ole Tippenhauer, that's not how it works. If someone is having a
bug, they need to file a new report (not reopen a closed report),
especially graphics/hardware correlated ones.
