Okay, I found a great workaround for me:
1. I made sure I removed light-locker, gnome-screensaver, xscreensaver,
kscreensaver, etc..
2. installed xscreensaver
3. reboot
Standby/resume and screen unlocking now works perfectly. While xmodmap
is still broken, I don't care about that.

that the high load on Xorg goes away after about a minute and the system
behaves normally.

thought it would affect the boot process

I have been using the Asus X200M netbook for the past 3-4 months. I have
loaded 14.04 LTS using a USB stick. Last week when I powered on my
system, after the initial few screens, the display goes completely
blank. I know that my display is fine and there is no loose
Brian, the checkbox is confusing because it does nothing. Users will
expect it to change some parameter, but the alternate scroll is always
turned on and won't be affected by that checkbox.

Paul, sad indeed that nobody picked up your work. I suppose it has
trickled into Debian and thus Ubuntu on its own by now. Can you confirm
that the problem is fixed at least in Trusty or later?

yeah, still persists. doing a fake install in the live usb it works
after install the last xorg dependence and it can be installed after
install lib32gcc1 and libc6-i386 but in real Ubuntu it doesn't work
