Adding some detail here: Switching back to xorg reproduces the bug 100%.
I can click on the launcher, it seems to be the only thing that'll
receive my clicks while the bug is active, but new apps launched while
the bug is active are also unable to see mouse clicks.

Same issue here after do-release-upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04:

When I close my laptop (Dell 7559) and then start again from sleep
Firefox content is only in 1/4 of the window and the rest is filled with
mess. I have every time to press the unmaximize and maximize button to
have content in the whole window. See attached screenshot.

@Gunnar Hjalmarsson: yep, I had frequent crashes and that upgrading via
the PPA fixed the problem. I have using it for a week and didn't find
any problem, maybe the upgrading solved the problem.
