I have the exact same symptoms in xenial as stdedos above, except with
Corsair Vengeance 1500 headset, switching between digital/s/pdif and
"speakers" (analog out).

I have not experienced the volume control symptom, however.

Title:
Playing video on chrome sometimes freezes until i'm not moving my
  mouse

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Latest update made some strange problems:

  1) system-udev made a high CPU usage on nvidia, i have made a restart
  on the udev:

  sudo systemctl start systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket
systemd-udevd-control.socket
  sudo systemctl stop systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket
systemd-udevd-control.socket

made a bleachIT also, that problem seems to be solved.

  2) when ubuntu stops on 120Hz there are some strange lines appears at the
bottom of the screen
It does not safely stop, just kills the nvidia driver probably, or does some
nasty manipulation

  3) On latest update - playing video on chrome freezes for a sec, until i'm
not moving my mouse
It did not appear before, although the high CPU usage was present on previous
releases

  4) scrolling is the weakest point of the gnome shell related to CPU
  usage

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803840] [NEW] color calibration with huey pro greenish

2018-11-17 Thread Michael Kubinyi
Public bug reported:

First of all: Congratulations, after an absence due to bad configurability of
my rig I came back to ubuntu and was very positively surprisedthere is one
thing that bothers me: after using the calibration feature for my screens this
leads to greenish displays, even a icc profile made with the same hardware

the same effect used with ubuntu 16.04...am I not aware of some more setting or
is this a bug?
Please let me know what more information you need from me besides I am using a

for displays, I am using it just for Blenders Cycles renderer. I am a
left-handed CG enthusiast who needs the wacom buttons on the right-hand side...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769480] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 - networkmanager dont show other wifi after few minutes

2018-11-17 Thread lnly
I dont thought this thread would get a response. I asked first what information
i should provide but did not get any response because in dmesg there is nothing
relevant. Its sad that someone else have to say that he have the same issue to
get a resposne.
I installed ubuntu 18.10 in the meantime on an other device with totaly
different wlan chipset. Same issue. So not that even the ubuntu version, also
the hardware changed fully.

Scanning via command line:

iwlist wlan3s0 scanning
wlan3s0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

Lets see if this issue wont get touched again until someone reports the same
issue with 19.04.

  See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1470873

  Description of problem:
With the update from Fedora 25 to Fedora 26 Workstation, backups with
deja-dup/duplicity are failing

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
  duplicity 0.7.13.1
  deja-dup 34.3

  How reproducible:
Always (scheduled and manually started backup)

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Wait for the scheduled backup to start or start it via the "Backup now"
button
  2. Some or a large number of files might get backed up, then the backup stops
with "Failed with an unknown error"
  3.

  Actual results:
  Backup fails

  Expected results:
Backup completes as it always did

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2018-11-17 Thread Selmi
I have problem with scanner from Samsung multifunction device M2070

it worked with installed drivers from samsung site in ubuntu 16.04

after upgrade to 18.04 scanner is not recognized anymore. I reinstalled
newer drivers from HP site (hp took over samsung printers and scanners)
but still doesn't work

so 'out of a box' experience in 18.04 from comment #43 is not exactly
true

Title:
the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-
  ins for sane

Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in sane-backends source package in Artful:
  Fix Released
Status in sane-backends package in Debian:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Note to SRU Team

The first proposed fix (1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2) failed because it
needed to be a versioned Provides, not just a Provides.

  Impact
  ==

  1) The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1-experimental "to
match with the soname". This apparently fixes a Lintian warning, but
makes installing 3rd-party plug-ins hard, as they typically depend on
"libsane", not on "libsane1". The first try to add a "Provides:
libsane" to libsane1 (which created a virtual package) didn't make
drivers installable that claim to depend on a minimum version of
libsane as virtual packages are ignored in this case.

  2) The soname change might be justified by the new version breaking
(several? most?) 3rd party plug-ins even if the library version number
doesn't indicate any bigger change than any ordinary new version of
the library - which might indicate that this phenomenon might be an
  upstream bug.

libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25
  libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27

It is to note that depending on the manufacturer for many old scanners
there won't be new versions of the plug-ins that are recompiled like
  this.

  Test Case
  =
  Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html
  Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz
  Unzip it.
Install the iscan .deb from the core folder.

It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane

  Regression Potential

The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been
virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed
initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes
the system basically useless.

It doesn't seem like adding the Provides will make things any worse
for third-party drivers but it has a goodme chance of making things
  better for some.

  Original Bug Report
  ===
I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. But both brscan (for
my brother scanner) and iscan (for my epson scanners) have been broken by the
change from libsane to libsane1. For iscan I have unpackaged the debian
package, changed the dependency it contains from libsane to libsane1 and
installed the changed package. But even then my epson scanners no more work
leaving me without any scanner => Reporting a bug.

  Impossibility of workarounds

Just installing an old version of libsane is impossible as it uninstalls
libgtk (which depends on libsane1 which conflicts with libsane) making the
system basically useless.

Looked at previous bugs I suspect that this might be dns issue due to the
packages problems.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803830] [NEW] Mouse pointer trailing and disturbing the content that the pointer "touches"

2018-11-17 Thread Josip Rajković
Public bug reported:

So , when i attached second monitor HPL1706 to my laptop HP 250 g5, my
mouse pointer started to leave trail that blinks. This trail disappears
when the mouse pointer hits the "quick select bar?" on the left side of
main screen, or when the pointer goes on the second monitor where it
continues to leave this trail.

Pointer also disturbs the content that it "hits" or it places small box
of the area it was moment before - like if i take a peace of puzzle,
copy it and place over some other peace of puzzle so that main picture
is not clear.

Right click also resets the bug.

Pointer disappears and re-appears if it's not moving but when it's not
visible, the trail is. This interval is around 1 second.

This affects my, already weak, PC performance.

1 time, when i logged into my account after being afk, this bug was not
present 100% until i tried to move sublime's window around the screen.

When i disconnect the second monitor, the bug is present but in much
smaller dose.

Every edit on this message (every letter i enter etc.) affects this bug
- it changes which pointers will be visible on the screen. Lets say
there is 10 pointers on screen - now its visible pointers 1,4,8 and when
i press a letter it changes to 2,5,9 etc. something like this. If there
is no action this change is automatic after approx. 1 second.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1802375] Re: network printer OKI mc352 not working any more (after update?)

2018-11-17 Thread Helmut Raiger
Ok, I disabled systemd-resolved on my machine, following ...

https://askubuntu.com/questions/907246/how-to-disable-systemd-resolved-
in-ubuntu

Network manager dns=default fixes the DNS lookup, which is now working
along with the printer. So this is actually no cups bug, but a DNS
problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1801494] Re: dock missing

2018-11-17 Thread Philip Rego
I havn't had this error again since I reported it, but what your saying
makes sense. I'm pretty sure my screen was turned off as well and I have
a AMD RX580, and had to reboot a bunch of times when the system locks up
(not sure how related but hasnt happened in a while).

"Please run 'gnome-tweaks' and try enabling the extension under
"Extensions"."
Ok

I tried turning on my computer with the screen off. The dock loaded but i got
this error

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1802375] Re: network printer OKI mc352 not working any more (after update?)

2018-11-17 Thread Helmut Raiger
After more web searching I found
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Avahi#Hostname_resolution, stating the
systemd-resolved does interfere with avahi mDNS ...
So I turned off systemd-resolved for a test and a pending job got printed
immediately.

This seems to be a conflict between systemd-resolved and avahi, I don't
fully understand the internals. Could someone please advise how to
proceed from here? Without systemd-resolved I have no DNS lookup and
with it I can't print ...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803792] Re: Can't pin/keep/lock Quod Libet 4.2 to docks using bamf

2018-11-17 Thread Alexander Browne
OK, thanks for taking a look, I appreciate it.

I did look at the syslog but I don't see anything related to banf or the
docks, just some gtk theme warnings...

I did notice, however, that Quod Libet 4.1 is listed in the MATE dock
and Plank as "Quod Libet", while 4.2 is listed as " - Quod
Libet".

Since upgrading the music player Quod Libet to the latest version
(4.2, via ppa:lazka/ppa), I there's no option to pin it to the MATE
dock applet. I'm using 18.10, and I also tried Plank. A Quod Libet
developer confirmed the issue as well in Unity on 16.04. AFAICT, these
  three docks all use bamf.

Since all earlier versions of Quod Libet work fine, I posted a bug
  with them (https://github.com/quodlibet/quodlibet/issues/3029), but
there are no reports of any issue with it from other docks/shells,
like GNOME Shell or Plasma, so maybe it's a bug with bamf?

Text highlight mismatch in view-source when layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
  is >= 1.2

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Unknown
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  == The issue ==
Search and text selection highlighting visuals get mismatched with the actual
selection in view-source when the value of `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` is 1.2
or larger.

  == Steps to reproduce ==
  * Open `about:config`, find `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` and change the value
from default (-1.0) to 1.2.
  * Open a view-source view with long lines:
`view-source:https://www.youtube.com/user/10asti10`
  * hit Ctrl+f, search for rss
  * using the LMB, try selecting some text, then copy and paste it somewhere

  == What happens ==
Screenshot 1: the highlighted text on the page is not ”rss”. The highlight
doesn’t even adhere to letter widths.

Screenshot 2: the pasted text is not even close to what you’ve
  selected to copy.

  == What I expect to happen ==
For the search to hightlight an occurence of ”rss”, and for the pasted text
to correspond to what I’ve selected from the view-source view.

  == Other info ==
  * In my testing, a devPixelsPerPx value of 1.1 seems to not trigger this,
whereas 1.2 and anything above does.
  * In addition to 18.04 (whence the attached info is from) I’ve reproduced
this in a VM running up-to-date 18.10.

looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while"

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Every time I start Firefox, there is a bar on the bottom of the window saying
"It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while. Do you want to clean
it up for a fresh, like-new experience? And by the way, welcome back!"

I use Firefox daily, so the message is wrong and a bit annoying. I
dismiss it, but comes back the next time I start Firefox.

This is on Ubuntu 14.04.4 "trusty" and Firefox
  45.0+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.

My home directory in on an NFS mount, if that makes a difference. The
permissions look fine though:

  drwx-- 4 tmk Domain Users 4096 Jul 20 2015 /home/tmk/.mozilla/firefox

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1309916] Re: about:startpage in Firefox in Ubuntu 14.04 still points to 13.10 startpage URL

2018-11-17 Thread Paul White
This was obviously fixed in the last four years!
I can't see that 'about:startpage' using the 14.04.5 ISO references the 13.10
release.
Marking as Fix Released.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1434848] Re: firefox crashes at some websites

2018-11-17 Thread Paul White
To anyone who has been affected by this issue,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. Do you still see a problem related to
the one that was reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu and
Firefox?

Please let us know, with example of the websites affected, otherwise
this bug report will expire in approximately 60 days time.

The currently supported version of Firefox is 63.0.1 (soon to be
63.0.3).

Thank you all for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
  firefox crashes at some websites

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
  Release: 14.04

N: Unable to locate package pkgname

When I visit some webpages, firefox freezes and I can't click anything
or scroll up & down. Sometimes they freeze too fast and stay blank,
but not very often. The webpage addresses appear normally in the
address bar. And on the firefox tab the spinning thing freezes. I
close the firefox window by clicking at "x" and I get the message:

The window "Mozilla Firefox" does not seem to be responding. Do you
want to force it to exit by sending the terminate signal?

Two examples of websites where I have the problem:

  http://www.agame.com
  http://www.linuxquestions.org

Sometimes appears at the google search pages, too.

Pinging the URLs got the normal displays. And also there' s not seems
to be a sudden large memory spike for these pages.

It's still crashing if I run firefox in safe-mode. This is the
  terminal display:

  $ firefox -safe-mode

  (process:2768): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion
'sys_page_size == 0' failed
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve
property `GtkRange::activate-slider' of type `gboolean' from rc file value
"((GString*) 0xaba44aa0)" of type `GString'
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve
property `GtkRange::activate-slider' of type `gboolean' from rc file value
"((GString*) 0xaba44a30)" of type `GString'
  Terminated

Disabling plugins & extensions, re-installation of firefox, updating
the system and re-installing of the OS didn't solve the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803815] Re: Evince stuck with "Loading..." and empty page for ECFR269_EU_COALITION_EXPLORER_2018_V1.10.pdf file specifically

2018-11-17 Thread Václav Haisman
Alright, it took many minutes but it eventually did load the PDF and now
I can view it. So I guess this is more like performance issue that
Firefox's PDF viewer can do better on this file than Evince.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803813] [NEW] Please install mozc-utils-gui from language-selector

2018-11-17 Thread Mitsuya Shibata

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803581] Re: PrepareForShutdown() signal from logind is not handled

2018-11-17 Thread Balint Reczey
I reported the GDM issue upstream, but LP does not handle Gitlab URLs
yet: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/443

** Description changed:

When a user logged in to the GUI session and she/he request shutdown of
the system a PrepareForShutdown() signal is emitted by logind:

  https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit/

Processes holding delay inhibitor locks can start their pre-shutdown
operations and until they finish there is no feedback in a Unity session
for the logged in user that shutdown is successfully requested on
Xenial. On Bionic, the default Gnome 3 session does handle the signal
and logs the user off to GDM, but GDM does not tell that shutdown is
pending and the user may think that she/he can log in again or should to
something to really start the shutdown.

With Ubuntu's default configuration the confusion only lasted up to 5
seconds (default max delay for inhibitor locks), but the next upload of
unattended-upgrades increases the delay up to 30 seconds which is more
  than noticeable (LP: #1803137).

Please consider either logging the user off from Unity and stopping GDM
- to switch over the the plymouth shutdown screen of at least showing a
+ to switch over the plymouth shutdown screen or at least showing a

Horizontal lines appear on blue background on pdf

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evince

We have a pdf file exported from Open Office Impress. The background is blue
and there are horizontal lines through the image. The lines vary somewhat in
colour, going from white to the blue.
If the slide show is made in OO Impress, all is well (showing that this isn't
a hardware problem). Likewise if the same exported pdf file is shown on Windows
XP, all is well. The problem only appears in Evince 2.24.1 in Ubuntu 8.10.
We cannot use Evince for the slide show because of these ugly lines.

  Thanks,
  Ilan

  Hi!

I use Ubuntu hardy 8.04 with last updates. The problem that I tell is
  very very old.

In the tables with columns (or rows) merged with a colour background (ex,
red) evince shows lines on each box.
I attach an example created with OOo Calc.

PS: if you open the PDF with Adobe Reader it shows correctly.
