I dont thought this thread would get a response. I asked first what information i should provide but did not get any response because in dmesg there is nothing relevant. Its sad that someone else have to say that he have the same issue to get a resposne. I installed ubuntu 18.10 in the meantime on an other device with totaly different wlan chipset. Same issue. So not that even the ubuntu version, also the hardware changed fully. Scanning via command line: iwlist wlan3s0 scanning wlan3s0 Interface doesn't support scanning. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane
I have problem with scanner from Samsung multifunction device M2070 it worked with installed drivers from samsung site in ubuntu 16.04 after upgrade to 18.04 scanner is not recognized anymore. I reinstalled newer drivers from HP site (hp took over samsung printers and scanners) but still doesn't work so 'out of a box' experience in 18.04 from comment #43 is not exactly true -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to sane-backends in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1707352 Title: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug- ins for sane Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in sane-backends source package in Artful: Fix Released Status in sane-backends package in Debian: Invalid Bug description: Note to SRU Team The first proposed fix (1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2) failed because it needed to be a versioned Provides, not just a Provides. Impact == 1) The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1-experimental "to match with the soname". This apparently fixes a Lintian warning, but makes installing 3rd-party plug-ins hard, as they typically depend on "libsane", not on "libsane1". The first try to add a "Provides: libsane" to libsane1 (which created a virtual package) didn't make drivers installable that claim to depend on a minimum version of libsane as virtual packages are ignored in this case. 2) The soname change might be justified by the new version breaking (several? most?) 3rd party plug-ins even if the library version number doesn't indicate any bigger change than any ordinary new version of the library - which might indicate that this phenomenon might be an upstream bug. libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25 libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27 It is to note that depending on the manufacturer for many old scanners there won't be new versions of the plug-ins that are recompiled like this. Test Case = Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz Unzip it. Install the iscan .deb from the core folder. It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane Regression Potential The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes the system basically useless. It doesn't seem like adding the Provides will make things any worse for third-party drivers but it has a goodme chance of making things better for some. Original Bug Report === I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. But both brscan (for my brother scanner) and iscan (for my epson scanners) have been broken by the change from libsane to libsane1. For iscan I have unpackaged the debian package, changed the dependency it contains from libsane to libsane1 and installed the changed package. But even then my epson scanners no more work leaving me without any scanner => Reporting a bug. Impossibility of workarounds Just installing an old version of libsane is impossible as it uninstalls libgtk (which depends on libsane1 which conflicts with libsane) making the system basically useless. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803830] [NEW] Mouse pointer trailing and disturbing the content that the pointer "touches"
Public bug reported: So , when i attached second monitor HPL1706 to my laptop HP 250 g5, my mouse pointer started to leave trail that blinks. This trail disappears when the mouse pointer hits the "quick select bar?" on the left side of main screen, or when the pointer goes on the second monitor where it continues to leave this trail. Pointer also disturbs the content that it "hits" or it places small box of the area it was moment before - like if i take a peace of puzzle, copy it and place over some other peace of puzzle so that main picture is not clear. Right click also resets the bug. Pointer disappears and re-appears if it's not moving but when it's not visible, the trail is. This interval is around 1 second. This affects my, already weak, PC performance. 1 time, when i logged into my account after being afk, this bug was not present 100% until i tried to move sublime's window around the screen. When i disconnect the second monitor, the bug is present but in much smaller dose. Every edit on this message (every letter i enter etc.) affects this bug - it changes which pointers will be visible on the screen. Lets say there is 10 pointers on screen - now its visible pointers 1,4,8 and when i press a letter it changes to 2,5,9 etc. something like this. If there is no action this change is automatic after approx. 1 second. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803792] Re: Can't pin/keep/lock Quod Libet 4.2 to docks using bamf
OK, thanks for taking a look, I appreciate it. I did look at the syslog but I don't see anything related to banf or the docks, just some gtk theme warnings... I did notice, however, that Quod Libet 4.1 is listed in the MATE dock and Plank as "Quod Libet", while 4.2 is listed as " - Quod Libet". ** Changed in: bamf (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to bamf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803792 Title: Can't pin/keep/lock Quod Libet 4.2 to docks using bamf Status in bamf package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Since upgrading the music player Quod Libet to the latest version (4.2, via ppa:lazka/ppa), I there's no option to pin it to the MATE dock applet. I'm using 18.10, and I also tried Plank. A Quod Libet developer confirmed the issue as well in Unity on 16.04. AFAICT, these three docks all use bamf. Since all earlier versions of Quod Libet work fine, I posted a bug with them (https://github.com/quodlibet/quodlibet/issues/3029), but there are no reports of any issue with it from other docks/shells, like GNOME Shell or Plasma, so maybe it's a bug with bamf? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803581] Re: PrepareForShutdown() signal from logind is not handled
I reported the GDM issue upstream, but LP does not handle Gitlab URLs yet: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/443 ** Description changed: When a user logged in to the GUI session and she/he request shutdown of the system a PrepareForShutdown() signal is emitted by logind: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit/ Processes holding delay inhibitor locks can start their pre-shutdown operations and until they finish there is no feedback in a Unity session for the logged in user that shutdown is successfully requested on Xenial. On Bionic, the default Gnome 3 session does handle the signal and logs the user off to GDM, but GDM does not tell that shutdown is pending and the user may think that she/he can log in again or should to something to really start the shutdown. With Ubuntu's default configuration the confusion only lasted up to 5 seconds (default max delay for inhibitor locks), but the next upload of unattended-upgrades increases the delay up to 30 seconds which is more than noticeable (LP: #1803137). Please consider either logging the user off from Unity and stopping GDM - to switch over the the plymouth shutdown screen of at least showing a + to switch over the plymouth shutdown screen or at least showing a notification about the ongoing shutdown. ** Also affects: gdm Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803581 Title: PrepareForShutdown() signal from logind is not handled Status in gdm: New Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in unity package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When a user logged in to the GUI session and she/he request shutdown of the system a PrepareForShutdown() signal is emitted by logind: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit/ Processes holding delay inhibitor locks can start their pre-shutdown operations and until they finish there is no feedback in a Unity session for the logged in user that shutdown is successfully requested on Xenial. I use Ubuntu hardy 8.04 with last updates. The problem that I tell is very very old. In the tables with columns (or rows) merged with a colour background (ex, red) evince shows lines on each box.
