[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1963628] Re: Force IIO_SENSOR_PROXY_TYPE to iio-buffer-als for some Dell models

2022-03-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the report. Is it fixed in newer series of Ubuntu? If not we
need to start by the devel one

> the readings from iio-poll-als are unstable, or could freeze on
certain value

isn't that the real issue? is that an hardware or firmware bug? could it
be fixed rather than worked around in udev rules?

  Force IIO_SENSOR_PROXY_TYPE to iio-buffer-als for some Dell models

Status in iio-sensor-proxy package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  systems they have ENV{IIO_SENSOR_PROXY_TYPE}="iio-poll-als iio-buffer-als",

  removing iio-poll-als makes reading stable.

  This adds workaround to the affected Dell laptop models which may equip with

  [Impact]

   * Only models matching the same device BIOS IDs are affected.

  [Test Plan]

   * Pick devices which BIOS IDs are listed in the patch, and test
  whether it's ambient light sensors are working properly without
  unexpected brightness flickers.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Machines matching the same BIOS ID, either having ALS built-in or
  not, but attached ambient light sensors externally (for example,
  ColorHug ALS) might experience failures.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1823516] Re: Nvidia driver installed but X apps are using software rendering (LLVMpipe) in Wayland sessions

2022-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looks like xorg-server will get the fix in "21" instead of "1.21".
Although that's probably not really important to anyone here because
Ubuntu switched to using the separate 'xwayland' package in impish which
already has the fix.

It might be relevant to focal HWE in future though. Maybe Ubuntu
20.04.5?

  no external monitors are detected.
  xrandr does not even list them as disconnected (normally it would list five
external disconnected monitors)

  lsmod
  shows that nvidia driver is loaded
  and the modesetting is working at some level because there is no tearing on
the laptop panel

  Note: modeset=1 is the only way to get flicker-free graphics on the laptop
panel. modeset=1 is not the default setting but it is highly desirable.

  It works if lightdm is used which is why I have reported this against gdm3
  My sessions in this configuration have mostly crashed after a few minutes
with a gdm3 fail whale message in syslog but nothing else looks interesting.

Bug description:
  Hi,

  my little daughter discovered a logon screen bypass in Ubuntu Mate
  21.10 after hitting the keyboard for a while.

  It turns out that several keyboard shortcuts are allowed while Ubuntu
  Mate is locked (arctica-greeter):

  - Mod4 + S (mate-search-tool)
  - Mod4 + E (Open Caja / File Explorer)
  - CTRL + Shift + Esc (mate-system-monitor)
  - PRNT (Screenshot)

  All of the mentioned shortcuts could be used to spawn a file explorer
  (Caja) or various other binaries as user "lightdm", who owns the logon
  screen.

  Although an interactive terminal like mate-terminal, xterm, lxterm
  etc. could not be opened directly, there are various options to run
  commands as the lightdm user, for example by creating a shell script
  using "caja", and execute it directly using the GUI.

  I've attached Proof-of-Concept GIFs for all shortcuts mentioned above.
  There might be additional shortcuts that could be used to achieve the
  same, however I'm not aware about every shortcut that is configured,
  but I suppose that the root cause is located somewhere in arctica-

  The bug was reproduced on a fresh installation of Ubuntu Mate 21.10. I
  haven't tested other versions of Ubuntu Mate yet.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950697] Re: gray desktop or login loop

2022-03-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

  Upon using the laptop after over night or coming back from work, the

  unresponsive.

  To resolve the issue, I ctrl=alt=f2 in order to log into a shell then
  restart the LightDM services. Those equals signs should be a plus,

  A fix has been merged upstream: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-

  Can we expect to see that merged in the current Ubuntu 21.10 ?

  I understand it might require a backport, since they merged it against
  1.26 and it does not seems to apply cleanly on 1.24. I also suspect
  upgrading libmbim to 1.26 is not acceptable for impish release.

Great discovery on enabling the NVidia drivers under Ubuntu. A side
note for Kubuntu users, run:

  sudo software-properties-qt

Then toggle the driver version on the Additional Drivers tab.

A second note. In order to boot into discrete graphics mode, change the
profile to "nvidia" either in NVidia settings or command line:

 sudo prime-select nvidia

Reboot into BIOS and select the dedicated graphics option. I assigned
the following command to a shortcut key to boot reboot directly to BIOS:

  systemctl reboot --firmware-setup

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962403] Re: Gamepads are no longer detected

2022-03-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I filed a store request to have the joystick interface auto-connected:
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/auto-connecting-the-joystick-interface-for-
the-firefox-snap/28981.

Regarding that kernel bug, please file a separate issue against the
linux source package.

Title:
  [snap] Gamepads are no longer detected

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After the upgrade from Firefox deb to Firefox snap, my gamepad is no
  longer being detected.

  One gamepad is a Feitun FM0013, a gamepad with at least 5 operation
  modes I've found so far: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, X-Box wired
  controller, PS3 wired controller, PS3 wireless controller and generic
  Bluetooth controller.

  From these 5 operation modes, X-Box wired controller, PS3 wired
  controller and generic Bluetooth controller work on my computer, while
  Nintendo Switch Pro Controller mode is found but doesn't detect any
  buttons while using PS3 wireless controller mode isn't found.

  When using on my notebook and smartphone, I normally use this gamepad
  in generic Bluetooth controller mode, as I want to use it wirelessly
  more often. I have noticed that any of the modes that worked with
  Firefox deb (X-Box wired controller, PS3 wired controller and generic
  Bluetooth controller) stopped working with the snap.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Have Firefox installed as a snap;
  2) Connect gamepad with one of its compatible modes;
  3) Access page/game to test the gamepad
(https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/12/the-gamepad-api/ or
https://luser.github.io/gamepadtest/ or http://www.cross-code.com/en/start for
example);
  4) Notice how the gamepad isn't detected.

  I have a Redragon Seymur 2 too, and it also isn't detected. Using the
  Firefox from the Mozilla page, the gamepads are found and appear as
  follow in the luser's page:

  gamepad: 0079-0006-DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick
  gamepad: 045e-028e-Microsoft X-Box 360 pad

  The X-Box 360 one is the Feitun. Using Bluetooth, the Feitun appear
  as:

  gamepad: 1949-0402-Gamepad

  So, unfortunately, Firefox snap is unusable to play games while using
  gamepads. For example, I can play CrossCode on the Chromium snap, but
  am unable to play it on Firefox snap.

Bug description:
  I have been using nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 for a while. In January,
  I tried the 495 drivers, but this resulted in failing to start the GUI
  when booting: the mouse cursor would appear, but then the screen would
  clear and the switch to graphics would be attempted again. This would
  repeat until restarted, so I used recovery mode to test that a) it
  still happened with that (yes) and b) to go back to the 470 drivers
  via the root terminal.

  For some reason, yesterday xscreensaver had a problem getting the
  right GLcontext. I noticed that the 510 drivers were available, so
  used Software & Updates's Additional Drivers to install those.

  Exactly the same issue as with the 495 drivers: the mouse cursor
  appears for a second, then disappears, and reappears, and.. until I
  reboot and go back to 470.

  I am using Ubuntu MATE 21.10 with a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti card.

  As this library has not changed I am assuming the problem is with one of the
libraries it depends upon. Several packages were updated in the past few days,
I believe including some that may be the cause of the problem. I have attached
a zip with my /var/log/apt/term.log and history.log for inspection.

  Version of library is 2.24.32-4ubuntu4 and library file is dated
  2021-03-31 here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-03 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
Regarding falling back to earlier releases, I have created a local
repository on my system. Given this I should be able to place the back-
level packages and then force those versions in synaptic.

I am not experienced in reading the gdb output, but it seems to me that
the call which generates the segfault is from libgail.so and libgail was
among those updated on 1 March from ..ubuntu1 to ..ubuntu1.1 version.

Given this, would it make sense for me to back-level that one package?
Perhaps all those updated to ..ubunto1.1 from ..ubuntu1, which includes
gtk updates?

I don't want to create more problems by missing co-dependencies in
version levels, so I will wait for your guidance before I proceed
further.

Title:
  Jammy Jellyfish LightDM is frozen after long period of inactivity

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Jammy Jellyfish LightDM is frozen after long period of inactivity
  Latest updates installed, has been happening since first install 2 weeks ago.

  Upon using the laptop after over night or coming back from work, the
  screen is frozen. I can move the mouse around but click is
  unresponsive.

  To resolve the issue, I ctrl=alt=f2 in order to log into a shell then
  restart the LightDM services. Those equals signs should be a plus,
  however it appears my shift key is not working so I will log another
  bug for that.

  I am using an XFCE environment.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-03 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
I attempted to use gdb on virtualbox first, but received errors. Given
this I was able to provide what you wanted with fcl.

Hopefully it will provide you with enough information to diagnose the
problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962510] Re: failing tests with new sssd, blocks python3-defaults

2022-03-03 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I troubleshooted this initially in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adsys/+bug/1962170, when all
tests were failing, and reached the same patch that mwhudson did, but
the tests were still failing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Could you try to follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace to provide
more details on the crash? The log suggest you didn't update much but
that includes glibc, do you know your way around dpkg and apt enough to
try to go back to the binary packages from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/2.31-0ubuntu9.5 and see if
that resolves your issue?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962510] Re: failing tests with new sssd, blocks python3-defaults

2022-03-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The package isn't regressing tests since it's not present in the release
pocket at the moment. In any case adsys is in a target promotion for
desktop for the incoming LTS, bug #1936907, we will own the issues as we
do for any of our other packages.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-03 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
The two programs are completely broken for me at this time. I use them
on a daily basis, so this is a real problem for me. There may be
additional broken programs that I have yet to encounter, but I have not
hit any others yet.

Given the behavior started suddenly yesterday after years of operation I
suspect that an update to one of the dependencies of the library where
the crash occurs is the cause.

I am not a developer, and thus unable to track this down personally.
Given my suspicions I attached a zip containing the update logs in hopes
someone with the proper tools can identify the problem. I should be
able to back out the particular change once it is identified.

If you need further information please let me know.

Removing the tag means that this package will reenter the release pocket
with failing tests. Who is responsible for fixing these tests? The
standard for proposed-migration is that we don't regret tests.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1963279] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.2.6 for impish

2022-03-03 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.2.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.2 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.6_release

 * Version 7.2.5 is currently released in impish. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.2.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.2.6
(that's a total of ? bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.6/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.6/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_72/1492/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
* [amd64] ...
* [arm64] ...
* [armhf] ...
* [ppc64el] ...
* [s390x] ...
 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of ? bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked

  [SRU] libreoffice 7.2.6 for impish

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in libreoffice source package in Impish:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.2.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.2 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.6_release

   * Version 7.2.5 is currently released in impish. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.2.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.2.6
(that's a total of ? bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.6/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.6/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
  a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

* A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_72/1492/

* More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

  * Feature tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.

  * [arm64] ...
  * [armhf] ...
  * [ppc64el] ...
  * [s390x] ...
   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962133] Re: Intermittent very low fps(sometimes zero) with few specific h264 and h265 RTSP input streams sources when used with gst-v4l2 based gstreamer-1.0(version gst-1.14.5

2022-03-03 Thread Loïc Minier
Please attach the reproducing pipeline; it's a bit tricky to organise
access to Jetson hardware to the right people, so if you had a
reproducer that we could run without Jetson hardware, that would be
best!

Bug description:
  Few specific h264 and h265 RTSP input streams sources when used with
  nvidia specific gst-v4l2 based gstreamer-1.0 (version gst-1.14 and
  ubuntu-18.04) decode pipeline intermittently yields very low fps (in
  the range of [~0/1 fps]).

  Issue seems caused by the gst_video_decoder_drain_out function
  erroneously getting called inside gst_video_decoder_chain_forward
  function.

  Required changes to fix the issue seems available with gst-1.16 and to
  resolve the issue need to backport the relevant OSS fixes from
  gst-1.16 to gst-1.14 on ubuntu-18.04.

  The mentioned issue was reported on with:
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796771

  Corresponding fix was incorporated with below:

https://github.com/GStreamer/gst-plugins-base/commit/62cb08404b9bd055c45cc1d5b71141e927ad748a

  We need to backport above fix on top of gst-1.14.5 on ubuntu-18.04 in
  order to have out-of-box fix available with default gstreamer-1.0
  version 1.14 on ubuntu-18.04

2022-03-03 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi Kunal,
It might be tricky to organise testing on Jetson platforms for people that will
prepare the fix.

In any case, could you share instructions to reproduce? If there's a way
to craft a test pipeline that trigger the issue without Jetson hardware,
that would be best.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1963264] [NEW] Screencast not recording

2022-03-03 Thread Jakub Klos
Public bug reported:

When I press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+R, screencast indicator appears in the
indicator menu but disappears in about 2 seconds. No file is even
created under the Videos folder.

journalctl shows:

The issue is the Gst.ParseError.

Before upgrading to jammy (22.04), it used to work fine. Also, when
testing under qemu/KVM it works properly. It just doesn't work when
running directly on the PC.

What other logs can I provide?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1118323] Re: cups-pk-helper-mechanism crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va()

2022-03-03 Thread ADFH
I've gotten around the bug by:
* Shutting down cups service
* Deleting
  * /etc/cups/printers.conf*
  * /etc/cups/classes.conf*
  * /etc/cups/subscriptions.conf*
* Rebooting
* Adding printer using the "Additional Printer Settings" button rather than the
"Add" button on initial screen

All three sets of deleted files were auto-created again, and no crash
dialog appeared.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1118323] Re: cups-pk-helper-mechanism crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va()

2022-03-03 Thread ADFH
I went to add a Kyocera Mita FS-1030D+ with an IB-21E NIC.

1. Tapped Windows key
2. Searched for "printers"
3. Saw list of printers already added in settings app in printer section
(Two printers originally listed - one not connected, one auto-added by network
detection)
4. Clicked "Add" button in the titlebar to add Kyocera
5. Add printer dialog appears, spinner shown briefly, then "System program
problem detected"

I now get a similar system program problem detected every time I sign
into my account.

I was able to add the printer through older looking Gnome printer dialog
("Additional Printer Settings" button), but still get a crash every time
I sign in.

No I am not familiar with this feature. I also can't seem to trigger it
in jammy (reported in impish). Even when I have updates awaiting
installation it just powers off when told to.

The log has errors like boltd[712]: /usr/libexec/boltd: symbol lookup

could you share the output of

it sounds like an old version of glib has been installed taking of the

 And yes, if I removed the gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock this issue

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962823] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in __pthread_kill_implementation() from __pthread_kill_internal() from __GI___pthread_kill() from __GI_raise() from __GI_abort()

This is the most common gnome-shell crash in jammy that has a partial
stack trace but it's still not enough information. We also can't read
any of the associated journal logs due to bug 1962454.

Judging by similar crashes like bug 1962817 I would say most instances
of this crash are going to be bug 1782984. Please try logging into a
Wayland session as a workaround.
