There are times when a user might want to scroll their screen by touching
their screen. But I can't do this anymore.

I want to know what went wrong? What can I do?

  Any info is appreciated.

  Note:
Currently, I can scroll without in issue in Nautilus. But I can't do the same

Bug description:
Please can you move the "insert-text" icon from gnome-icon-theme-full

  theme.

Currently easytag has an ubuntu specific patch to use gnome-icon-
theme-full instead of gnome-icon-theme so it can use this icon, but
reading the description of the package split it seems to me that
gnome-icon-theme should still "provide" it somehow - even if it gets
installed through a dependency on an ubuntu specific icon theme.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052851] [NEW] add-apt-repository Cannot Manage deb822 Repository Sources

2024-02-09 Thread Josh Lopez
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 23.10...

* When adding a PPA, 'add-apt-repository' will add the repository in the
new deb822 format as a .sources file in
'/etc/apt/sources.list.d'

* However, 'add-apt-repository --list' cannot see/understand the new
'.sources' file

For example, with the flacon ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~flacon/+archive/ubuntu/ppa):

1. 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flacon/ppa' adds the flacon repo as
'/etc/apt/sources.list.d/flacon-ubuntu-ppa-mantic.sources'

2. apt can install and update from the new repo, as expected. you can
also remove the repo, as expected, by running 'sudo add-apt-repository
--remove ppa:flacon/ppa'

3. However, 'add-apt-repository --list' does not list the repo as it
should. GUI package managers such as Muon and Synaptic also do not see
the new repo.

It makes working with packages quite frustrating, and unfortunately, per
Julian Andres Klode (juliank), there seems to be no plan to fix the
broken 'software-properties-common' any time soon. See here:

Erich - Do you have /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log for the system which
was being upgraded? That would help us evaluate the failure.

2024-02-09 Thread Ibrahim Ahmed
OS: Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-169-generic x86_64)
Package: gnome-shell 3.36.9
I am getting similar issue, but on a different callback as per below:

gnome-shell[1742]: Attempting to call back into JSAPI during the
sweeping phase of GC. This is most likely caused by not destroying a
Clutter actor or Gtk+ widget with ::destroy signals connected, but can
also be caused by using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs.
Because it would crash the application, it has been blocked and the JS
callback not invoked.

gnome-shell[1742]: The offending signal was user-changed on

When I unplug my USB-C monitor from my laptop, the laptop screen

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052820] [NEW] RDP Remote Desktop :[ERROR][com.freerdp.core.transport] - transport_check_fds: transport->ReceiveCallback() - -1

2024-02-09 Thread taichu
Public bug reported:

Subject: [GNOME Remote Desktop] Error with File Descriptor Check Leading
to Connection Closure

Dear Ubuntu Community,

I am reaching out to report an issue encountered with the `gnome-remote-
desktop` service on my system. I have been experiencing connection
stability issues, and upon inspecting the service's logs, I found
repeated errors related to file descriptor checks and connection
closures.

**System Information:**
- **OS**: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- **GNOME Remote Desktop Version**: (please insert your version here)
- **System Architecture**: (please insert your architecture here, e.g., x86_64)

**Issue Description:**
The `gnome-remote-desktop` service consistently logs errors indicating an
inability to check file descriptors, leading to the closure of remote desktop
connections. These errors occur during the negotiation of security protocols
and seem to prevent successful remote desktop sessions.

**Relevant Log Excerpts:**

2月 09 23:46:10 taichu-System gnome-remote-desktop-daemon[489774]:
[23:46:10:236] [489774:535692] [ERROR][com.freerdp.core.transport] -
transport_check_fds: transport->ReceiveCallback() - -1
2月 09 23:46:10 taichu-System gnome-remote-de[489774]: Unable to check file
descriptor, closing connection
2月 09 23:46:10 taichu-System gnome-remote-desktop-daemon[489774]:
[23:46:10:808] [489774:535727] [ERROR][com.freerdp.core.peer] -
peer_recv_callback: CONNECTION_STATE_INITIAL - rdp_server_accept_n>
2月 09 23:46:10 taichu-System gnome-remote-de[489774]: Unable to check file
descriptor, closing connection

**Steps to Reproduce:**
1. Start `gnome-remote-desktop` service.
2. Attempt to establish a remote desktop connection from a client.
3. Observe the connection instability and check the service's logs for errors.

**Expected Behavior:**
The `gnome-remote-desktop` service should handle file descriptors correctly and
maintain stable remote desktop connections without prematurely closing them.

**Actual Behavior:**
The service logs errors related to file descriptor checks and terminates remote
desktop connections.

**Attempts to Resolve:**
- Restarted the `gnome-remote-desktop` service.
- Checked for updates to the `gnome-remote-desktop` package.

I have not found a workaround for this issue and am seeking assistance
from the community to identify a fix or obtain a patch.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am looking forward to any
suggestions or guidance on resolving this issue.

Best regards,

Chinese User (from the Ubuntu Community)

  - **OS**: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
  - **GNOME Remote Desktop Version**: (please insert your version here)
  - **System Architecture**: (please insert your architecture here, e.g.,

  **Issue Description:**
The `gnome-remote-desktop` service consistently logs errors indicating an
inability to check file descriptors, leading to the closure of remote desktop
connections. These errors occur during the negotiation of security protocols
and seem to prevent successful remote desktop sessions.

Check /var/log/apport.log for details, one of the reason could be that
the 'report counter' is preventing new reports (which is to avoid having
the same problem reported again if there is a recurring problem)

No, ideally we shouldn't log private information, but I think the
journal log will not be required there.

It's a bit unfortunate there is no new crash on the day of the issue but
maybe it's the same as the one you listed and had before in which case
is would be bug #1713581

Tks for your quick response! I need some help please:

1. The files you requests contain lots of personal info, i.e. the name of my
connected phone. Is there an easy way to anonymise it?

2. ubuntu-bug myfile.crash runs, but does not issue a bug with ID.

3. No item at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/myID on the day nautilus
crashed. But the list has a previous crash

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052764] Re: EOG crashes all open images when reopening a prior closed image

2024-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
sounds like a gtk problem, the error is about scaling ... do you have
some sort of scaling factor set for your desktop?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1625782] Re: [needs-packaging] adwaita-icon-theme and adwaita-icon-theme-full not available in Trusty

2024-02-09 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS has reached End of Life and therefore we can't add new
packages to it.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

** Changed in: adwaita-icon-theme (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Won't Fix

Title:
  [needs-packaging] adwaita-icon-theme and adwaita-icon-theme-full not
  available in Trusty

Status in adwaita-icon-theme package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
These packages are either assumed to be installed or expected to be
available by other packages. It is the default for many packages.
Additionally, the hicolor theme is highly inadequate and missing many
  default icons.

If I'm supposed to be able to develop and build on Windows Linux
Subsystem (WLS), then all packages like these need to be available. It
really shouldn't be that challenging to make all build libraries and
icon packages available in all versions of Ubuntu. I've enabled
  trusty-updates, trusty-backports, and extras.

I may be able to pull icon packages from other versions, but I still
may have strange dependency issues. (Sometimes dependencies don't make
sense.) Since I'm not dealing with a real Linux kernel, doing a full
  upgrade is inadvisable.

It seems that these icons have been available before, but apt does not
give me an alternate package to install the icons. Neither adwaita-
icon-theme or adwaita-icon-theme-full are available. It seems the the
full theme pulls in the cursors.

I've used Ubuntu before and currently dual boot it with Windows. I
figured that other than the limits and quirks of WLS, this would be
fairly easy with my prior experience. I was wrong!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052800] [NEW] brltty not properly installed in initramfs

2024-02-09 Thread Cigaes
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 22 LTS, with brltty 6.4-4ubuntu2:

In `/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/brltty`, there is:
```
  copy_exec /bin/brltty $DESTDIR/bin/
```
but the `copy_exec` utility function already adds `$DESTDIR` to the target, it
results in the binary copied at a wrong place. Indeed, on Noble:
```
  copy_exec /bin/brltty /bin
```

As a result, braille does not work to decrypt the disk at boot.

Please backport this fix to 22 LTS.

We will disable the test but I've asked the release team to ignore the
result to let the package migrate to avoid doing another upload to that

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052784] Re: Settings not responding

2024-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Could you start gnome-control-center from
a commandline and share what is being printed there when you go to the
panel. Do you need to click a subcategory or is opening the region panel
enough to hit the freeze?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052764] Re: EOG crashes all open images when reopening a prior closed image

2024-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You could do
$ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

If it fails then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is
the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you
find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send
the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
