[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1174259] [NEW] Network Manager sometimes fails to reconnect to WPA protected wi-fi network
Public bug reported: I regularly connect to two different wi-fi networks that use WPA/WPA2 Personal security. When the laptop accidentally loses connection to the network, it sometimes fails to re-establish the connection and asks for the password repeatedly. The only solution to fix that is to reboot. Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect to a wi-fi network with WPA/WPA2 Personal security, 2. Accidentally lose connection (by moving around with the laptop for example), 3. Network Manager attempts to reconnects, fails and asks for the network's password again, 4. Enter the password and click Connect, 5. Network Manager fails to connect and goes back to step 3. Expected behaviour: NM should reconnect without any issue. Note that this would never happen with 12.10 on the same machine so it looks like a regression. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1170346] [NEW] Desktop freeze during update followed by boot problem and xorg crash
Public bug reported: I'm not sure this is the correct package nor whether it's a single bug but I'm happy to analyse further if someone can help me do so. I just did an apt-get dist-upgrade on my machine and here's what happened: 1. Ran sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; 2. At the point of setting up man DB, fans starts spinning up, unity locks up (apart from the mouse pointer); this seems to have been happening recently as a result of GPU lock ups; 3. CTRL+ATL+F2, logged in via console to force a reboot; 4. Laptop attempted to close processes but never managed to do so (while fan stayed on full speed); 5. Forcefully shut down the laptop; 6. On restart, I get a screen displayed saying that the system is on low graphics mode; 7. CTRL+ALT+F2 again to reboot; 8. Reboot happens as expected and I can log in to Unity; 9. A few seconds after login, apport fires up reporting an XOrg crash. The /var/log directory contains a number of apport log files that all look something like: ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: called for pid 1381, signal 6 , core limit 18446744073709551615 ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: ignoring implausibly big core limit, treating as unlimited ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: executable: /usr/bin/Xorg (co mmand line /usr/bin/X :0 -core -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch) ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: is_closing_session(): no DBUS _SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS in environment ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:25 2013: wrote report /var/crash/_usr_ bin_Xorg.0.crash ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-18.28-generic 3.8.6 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-18-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Thu Apr 18 14:00:37 2013 DistUpgraded: 2013-03-24 16:04:44,678 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: raring DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.2.10: added ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:21e8] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-03-24 (24 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MachineType: LENOVO 12942NG MarkForUpload: True ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.8.0-18-generic root=UUID=aeda5fea-792c-4b75-b1f9-572ad71afcbc ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-03-24 (24 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 06/20/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 8MET22WW (1.22 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 12942NG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr8MET22WW(1.22):bd06/20/2011:svnLENOVO:pn12942NG:pvrThinkPadX1:rvnLENOVO:rn12942NG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 12942NG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.9~daily13.04.18.1~13.04-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.43-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.1.1-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.1.1-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu2b2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.1.0-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.7-0ubuntu1 xserver.bootTime: Thu Apr 18 13:53:57 2013 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 xserver.video_driver: intel ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 raring ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170346 Title: Desktop freeze during update followed by boot problem and xorg crash Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm not sure this is the correct package nor whether it's a single bug but I'm happy to analyse further if someone can help me do so. Chris, is there a possibility to backport the fix to Quantal? It really makes the computer difficult to use as it hangs every few minutes, in particular when scrolling. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 991912] [NEW] Confusing button labelling on disk eject dialogue
Public bug reported: When burning a CD ISO to an physical CD using a CD drive that does not support software eject, Brasero displays a message dialogue asking the user to manually eject the CD from the drive (see attached screen shot). Although the message is reasonably clear, there is only one button in this dialogue labelled Cancel. This is extremely confusing as it suggests that clicking that button will cancel the just finished write operation. Furthermore, the dialogue offers no alternative action that would make sense. This is a mobile broadband connection on Vodafone contract using a data SIM with the Lenovo X1 built-in 3G. Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect to mobile broadband 2. Suspend the computer (e.g. by closing the lid) 3. Resume the session (e.g. by opening the lid and unlocking the computer) 4. Mobile broadband does not reconnect 5. Open network menu to re-connect: two entries are shown under Mobile Broadband: one that is enabled, one that is greyed out 6. Click on the enabled entry under Mobile Broadband 7. A notification bubble appears saying that mobile broadband is disconnected; the entries in the network menu revert to the normal entries before step 1 above 8. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 946546] [NEW] Mobile broadband cannot be resumed after suspending laptop
Public bug reported: After suspending my laptop while mobile broadband was connected and resuming, the mobile broadband connection doesn't come back up and I need to log out and log back in again to be able to use it again. Open the network menu again and click on the mobile broadband provider: entries in the menu revert to the state in step 5 and mobile broadband does not connect Expected behaviour: Mobile broadband should do one of: 1. automatically reconnect in step 4, or 2. fully disconnect to revert to a clean state Option 2 ensures that the machine does not automatically reconnect to a network connection that may cost money and gives the chance to connect to wi-fi instead. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 860898] [NEW] Empathy ignores remember this choice for future connections on untrusted certificate error dialogue
Public bug reported: When starting Empathy, if it tries to connect to servers that present untrusted certificates (in particular self-signed as with Gmail or Facebook), there is a check box to ask Empathy to remember the action for next time. However setting that check box has no effect. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start empathy with a Gmail of Facebook account; 2. The untrusted certificate dialogue appears (see screen shot); 3. Click on the remember this choice for future connections check box; 4. Click Continue; 5. Close Empathy (go offline or log out); 6. Restart Empathy. Expected behaviour Empathy should connect to the account without popping up the untrusted certificate dialogue. Actual behaviour: Empathy presents the untrusted certificate dialogue again despite the user request to remember the previous action. Note: I completely understand that untrusted certificates are a security risk and that users should be notified. However, when it happens all the time on well know services, ignoring user requests to remember the action will eventually lead users to ignore that type of warnings and click through anyway.
