I'd rather not leave all the channels on my IRC proxy when that happens. (This is Idle bug #24273.) • Marco is in an XMPP MUC with three of his friends, who sporadically discuss Aqua. He doesn't want to have the conversation window open constantly, cluttering his desktop, but wants to be in the room in case someone says something. If we make Close() not actually leave the room (depending on RemoveMembers() for that) it needs to be opt-in until Telepathy 1.0. Rob suggests adding a property for this behaviour which could be requested, or set by the handler. I wonder whether we could use http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/spec/Client_Handler.html#org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Client.Handler.Capabilities for this? Technically it's imperfect, because if you have two handlers installed—one with and one without this feature—the CM can't tell them apart. But it might be good enough. This could also be used for preview icon markings in the symbol view, in the way that you can already show meta data like the file size, when increasing the symbol size above 100%. See also this brainstorm idea: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/5211/ Showing photo capture date has become especially important since the change from gnome-vfs to gvfs, as gvfs changes the modified datetime when merely copying (but not otherwise changing) files. With gnome-vfs, the modified date could be taken as capture/creation date, since it was kept when copying the photos from the digital camera / SD card to the local file system. ** Changed in: evolution Status: Unknown = New ** Changed in: evolution Importance: Unknown = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037669 Title: gst-plugin-scanner and browser plugins are used when opening certain emails Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool: New Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “evolution” source package in Quantal: Triaged Status in “evolution” package in Debian: New Bug description: Evolution now uses webkit for html mail in 12.10. On launch, it tries to access the google-talkplugin. When looking at a certain messages in preview mode (a google calendar invite), it tries to launch /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer0.10/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin- scanner. Interestingly, this is happening even though I have 'Only ever show plain text' configured in Preferences/Mail Preferences/HTML Messages (I do have 'Show suppressed HTML parts as attachments' selected). This suggests that evolution: - would gladly use plugins - that javascript is possibly enabled (for the plugin finder) - that the WebKit HTML renderer is being invoked even though 'Only ever show plain text' is selected Webkit is an immensely powerful renderer and it is being used to render completely untrusted input from anyone who can send an email. We need to make sure that plugins and javascript are disabled and that the renderer is not being used at all when 'Only ever show plain text' is enabled (it could be used to deliver text/plain, but it seems that it is processing the HTML then discarding it). This would bring it in line with Thunderbird's policies. I noticed this because I use AppArmor to confine evolution. Unfortunately in my situation, evolution hung on the message that invoked the plugin finder because the plugin finder failed to launch. I have rules now that will prevent the hang, but evolution isn't handling this error condition gracefully either. This should be considered an important security regression. ** Changed in: nautilus Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61237 Title: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work Status in Nautilus: Fix Released Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Updating description to be clearer: CopyPaste from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102501 (I see this on Hardy): Description of Problem: It is near-impossible to drop a file into a folder that is in list view and contains only subdirectories. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Create a folder with a number of sub-directories, enough so that the list view will have to scroll. 2. Try to drop a file or directory from another window or the desktop into the list. 3. Cringe as you cannot get the file not to drop into one of the sub-directories Actual Results: File ends up in a sub-directory Expected Results: File ends up where I wanted it Original Description: similar to bug #49348 (no lasso selection in list view) it is impossible to DnD a file into a folder when in list view. Note: dragging the file in between other files, not folders. You can drag them into a folder just fine, in list view. But to have a file append a list of other files in a folder, you'd have to 'move up' one level in the filesystem hierarchy, and drag the file into the right folder. It can off course be dragged to the tree, but to an ex-Win user this is strange. Lasso selection and DnD do work in Explorer. Moreover, in icon view, lasso selection and DnD are not a problem, so this would confuse the user (I guess). Hey, yesterday I could DnD just fine, but in this folder it won't work. ** Changed in: nautilus Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571510 Title: Disk properties sheet reports wrong used space Status in Nautilus: Fix Released Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus When viewing the properties of a disk, it reports total size, free space, and used space. The used space appears to be wrong. I have an empty disk that df -h reports as: size used avail 746G 197M 708G But the properties window says the capacity is 745.4 GB, with 707.4 GB free, which agrees so far, but for used space, it says 38.1 GB. My guess as to what is going on is that nautilus is ignoring the values returned by statfs() which df reports for the used space, and calculating what it thinks the used space is by subtracting free from total. The kernel normally reserves 5% of the disk for root, so statfs() reports a smaller avail size to normal users. Quotas also will cause avail to be less than size - used. Nautilus should report the used space according to statfs(). To get the location of a file in the clip-board currently requires the following steps: (1) Navigate to the folder the file is in. (2) Right-Click on the file. (3) Click Rename... (4) Type Ctrl-A (5) Type Ctrl-C (6) Click the Pencil icon (left of the location bar to display the folder path in text). (7) Put a forward-slash on the end of the currently displayed folder-location. (8) Paste the file-name (copied in step 5) to the end of the currently displayed location (9) Type Ctrl-A (10) Type Ctrl-C These 10 steps could be reduced to 2 steps if we'd simply add one more item to the context menu that is displayed when someone right-clicks on a file in nautilus: Copy File Location Another item I suggest to add to this same context menu is: Copy File Name. This features should also include files extension when the text is place in the clipboard. Firefox has similar items in it's context menu, while right-clicking on web links: Copy Link Location, and I've even added a firefox extension that allows my to Copy Link Text. When I right-click on something, I expect to see a list of all things I might want to do to what I'm right-clicking on. Many users will appreciate these additions, and many have probably thought of them, but they didn't take the time to file a report because of the many steps required to do so. Each step in any process culls the impatient. In summary, please add the following to nautilus' context-menus upon right-clicking files: (1) Copy File Location (2) Copy Name (3) Copy Name with extension Add the following to nautilus' context-menus upon right-clicking folders: (1) Copy Folder Location (include forward-slash on the end) (2) Copy Folder Name These enhancement eliminated many steps, and therefore evolve usability. I don't know if this is an Ubuntu customization enhancement or GNOME fundamental enhancement, so I also filed this too: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601189 If you'd like to discuss this by phone, you may call me (toll free): http://www.lonniebest.com/Phone/ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/478629/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This leds to some confusion in my opinion. For example, it happened to me to print a PDF in evince on a day, selecting it with two pages per sheet, and asking myself the next day (the following time I did printing in evince) why all my curriculum vitae where split in two. Or, more frequently, print 10 copies of a leaflet, and then forget to check it for the next print which is a Shakespeare's complete novel, going to buy me a coffee, and return after half an hour with three or four spare copies of Macbeth. Not to count the problems the famigerate page selection options, expecially when you've to handle over your work to your colleagues during a meeting, and you discover too late you've got a lot of odd pages of your presentation, but no even-numbered one! In short, it would be a sensible behaviour if evince or GtkPrint (I think the culprit is the second one, but feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) would save my choiches across _any printing operation for the same document_ (until the document changes, or the application is closed) instead of _any printing operation for any document_. If needed, a Save as default options button could be added to the printing dialog. Cheers, m. Since it affects multiple applications that use cairo. It would seem unlikely that they are all suddenly having the same bug on 11.10/12.04 at the same time. Please could you be more forthcoming at least explain to me what this bug is about and tell me where this was fixed in cairo? The developers of the other software blame cairo, and the developer of cairo blames the other software. That happens more than you'd think ;) But in this case, the particular error message and the resulting abort is due to the application (or a library it's using) calling cairo_surface_set_device_offset() when the cairo context is already in an error state. So unless it's a memory corruption or something similar in cairo, checking for the error state (or not causing it in the first place) is definitely something the application developers should look into. Thank you Kalle for a much more helpful reply. I could certainly go with what you said. My only sticking point is that this has suddenly affected a number of programs since 11.10. If it were only one then I could believe it is not a problem with cairo. But to have multiple software affected in the same way, when there was no problem at all in 11.04, would point the finger at cairo. Also Chris

** Changed in: nautilus Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/920691 Title: Nautilus has no Bookmark target until CTRL+D Status in Nautilus: Fix Released Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Running a stock Oneiric version of Nautilus. I find that dragging Folders into the left pane never creates a bookmark. Previously, I think I could drag folders 'in between' other folders in the left pane, seeing a black line indicating where the new bookmark would be placed. Now it's impossible to find a drag/drop target which creates a bookmark from a stock Oneiric until first running the keyboard shortcut CTRL+D to add an item. Once an item exists, a Bookmarks section appears in the Nautilus left pane, and then I can drag subsequent bookmarks under this heading. For Bookmarks to be a usable feature, there should be some kind of GUI-based technique to create them. Currently it requires deep understanding of Nautilus keyboard shortcuts to begin with. When I accidentally click an email link in Firefox, however, it opens up an Evolution email send dialog. I promptly close it, but then I still get prompted with an unlock keyring dialog. This dialog will not go away, even after closing the email message. Clicking deny, clicking OK, and clicking the close box on the keyring dialog all cause it to immediately come back. The only reliable way I've found to get it to go away forever is to kill the process, which is still open even after closing the email composition for some reason. Generally it looks like this: scott 397 0.2 4.0 507340 84200 ?SLl 14:04 0:01 evolution mailto:?body=http://www.google.com/subject= Here, kill 397 will allow me to close the annoying keyring dialog and not have it come back. Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of this one. Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf: nameserver 192.168.0.1 nameserver 8.8.8.8 The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can resolve both private and public domain names. The second address is the address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only public names. This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first- listed address first. Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes server=192.168.0.1 server=8.8.8.8 to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and nameserver 127.0.0.1 to resolv.conf. Resolution of private domain names is now broken because dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1010141] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor automounts loop devices, preventing them from being unmounted
** Changed in: gvfs Status: Unknown = New ** Changed in: gvfs Importance: Unknown = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010141 Title: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor automounts loop devices, preventing them from being unmounted Status in GVFS: New Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Right now, if you mount a loop device on Ubuntu Precise, gvfs-gdu- volume-monitor grabs hold of the mount, preventing it from being unmounted. I've attached a script (gvfs-test.sh) which reproduces the problem reliably on Ubuntu Precise. Ubuntu has a setting which should disable this automount behavior, but it doesn't work: I tried setting System Settings - Details - Removable Media - Never prompt or start programs on media insertion, but gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor still grabs hold of loop devices. This bug is present in Ubuntu Precise but is not present in Ubuntu Lucid. With the attached script (gvfs-test.sh), it fails with the following message: + sudo bash -c 'mount /dev/loop0 /tmp/tmp.A8gsvsAc7T-gvfs-test umount /tmp/tmp.A8gsvsAc7T-gvfs-test' umount: /tmp/tmp.A8gsvsAc7T-gvfs-test: device is busy. (In some cases useful info about processes that use the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1)) Killing gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor works around the problem. You can also work around the bug by sleeping for a few seconds prior to unmounting the loop device. There are two related bugs here: 1) gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor should not be touching loop devices at all -- they are not removable media so they should not be automounted. 2) It should be possible to disable the automount behavior of gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor.
