[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while
On Ubuntu 20.04 the problem is still happening pretty similar to the one reported by the OP. I've found a new way to fix it though. Steps to reproduce: 1. turn off machine. 2. leave a headphone plugged in 3. turn on machine (caveat: if your laptop is suspended from here the bug won't be produced) 4. unplug headphone 5. plug headphone -> YOU WON'T HEAR A THING To fix it I do: I open Settings -> Sound and there: 1. change the Input Device to internal microphone (not the headphone) (you should start hearing after this step!!!) 2. Change the Input Device to the headphone (this fix is faster than suspending and bringing it back up). Another fix, is to always unplug the headphones when turning off the laptop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575078 Title: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm experiencing a strange behavior with a headphone jack on my laptop. I have an external audio speaker connected to it. When I disconnect the speaker and reconnect it again it stops working. Even more, laptop audio stops working too. And after the reboot, I don't even see any of the audio devices. I've googled a lot and tried different fixes from forums with no luck. After a while, I've accidentally discovered that putting the laptop to the sleep mode and rebooting system after brings audio back to live. Even more, if speakers were attached during this sleep-reboot procedure, they are starting to work as well. However, after the next reboot speakers are not working again. And if I will plug them out and in - problem with completely missing audio returns. P.S. I'm using laptop-mode-tools package on my laptop. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1709781] Re: Screenshots do not work in Wayland session
@seb128 I've made several tests here: Full screen: Calling "gnome-screenshot -c" doesn't put anything on the clipboard, it reports "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste". When calling via UI, a full screen and sending to clipboard, pasting into GIMP, it just pastes the top part of the screen (kind of out-of-buffer-memory problem maybe?) Part of screen: When selecting a small sector of the screen with "shift + printscreen" button, it's not sent to the clipboard. When using the gnome-screenshot UI, a sector of screen can be sent to the clipboard. With "gnome-screenshot -a -c", from GIMP it reports "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste". Just expanding a little bit more my last comment, on Ubuntu 17.04, using the 'sudo openconnect xxx' command is adding to the file /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf file the DNS IP addresses as global ones. Just also added them on the 'icon' version and it fixed it too. In Ubuntu 17.04 it's using by default the systemd-resolved service (instead of the reported one dnsmasq). TL;DR; -> network-manager-1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 use DNS defined by VPN (correct). network-manager-1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 use DNS from DHCP instead of one defined by VPN (wrong). There are no leaks to LAN DNS server (this is correct behavior). = Paul Smith requested additional details in #1639776. Here are: * If you're using IPv4 vs. IPv6 -> IPv4 only. I have IPv6 set to ignore on all network definition (lan / wifi /vpn) * If you have checked or unchecked the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" -> unchecked on all nw definition * If you have this checked, try unchecking it and see if that makes a difference -> no change if I toggle this option. Behavior is same. * When you say "DNS lookups" please be clear about whether the hostnames being looked up are public (e.g., www.google.com or whatever), on your local LAN, or in the network accessed via the VPN. Does it make a difference which one you choose? -> No difference. * Are you using fully-qualified hostnames, or relying on the DNS domain search path? Does it make a difference if you do it differently? -> I normaly use FQDN due to nature of HTTPs cert validation. I don't see difference when I try same using hostname + domain search. = I am using openconnect (cisco) and openvpn. Test result are by using openconnect but I saw same behaviour also while using openvpn. = Thanks Lukas To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1688018/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

TL;DR; -> network-manager-1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 use DNS defined by VPN (correct). network-manager-1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 use DNS from DHCP instead of one defined by VPN (wrong). DNS resolver should query only DNS servers defined by VPN while connection is active. = Test steps / result: - upgraded network-manager to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (dnsmasq-base-2.75-1ubuntu0.16.04.2) - restated my laptop to ensure clean start - connected to VPN using openconnect / network-manager-openconnect-gnome Observed results -> DNS queries are forwarded only to DNS servers defined by LAN connection (this is wrong / connection not working at all) - "killall dnsmasq" - dnsmasq get automatically restarted by system Observed results -> most of the the queries are forwarded to DNS servers defined by VPN, but lot of queries get forwarded to DNS servers defined by LAN connection (this is still wrong / DNS leaks, attacker can hijack connection even if VPN is enabled) - I downgraded back network-manager to 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 (dnsmasq-base stay same) - restated my laptop to ensure clean test - connected to same VPN using openconnect Observed results -> DNS queries are forwarded only to DNS servers defined by VPN connection.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while
Regarding @shinyblue , on my configuration (lightdm/unity), sounds seems to work in all cases (new kernel 4.4.0-28-generic). Only caveat I want to mention is that System Settings->Sound->Output shows two options with headphone connected, and selecting "Speakers. Built-in Audio" just mutes and produces no sound. I'm tempted to report that last caveat in a new bug, but I'm not sure if it was one of the original problems reported by @ivan.koptiev and he didn't realize about this current limitation. This seems fixed for latest kernel 4.4.0-28-generic. Looking at pavucontrol and/or "Sound settings" under Gnome it shows that the sound should be playing on the Headphones output port - the VU meter is bouncing up and down ok, but it's silent. Pull out the wire (or select internal speakers for the Output) and the sound switches to the internal speakers OK. Last time this happened I fiddled for ages and then got distorted sound (sounds like some sort of cross-channel thing) and this only went a away with a complete re-install of Ubuntu (which I did to try to fix a separate bug but am not willing to do again!). I ran alsa-info.sh from the command line and uploaded the info. Here's the URL it gave me to share: http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=06...3f7ebb379442a7 It's now happened again, having spent all Friday enjoying music, Monday morning turn on and silence! I've got the same laptop and that kind of things bring back the sound. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1580917 Title: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266, Black Headphone Out, Left] No sound at all Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: All was working fine, then one day it goes silent when plugging in my speakers to the headphone socket, and forever after with something plugged in (internal speakers still work fine). I've not done any upgrades since. I have tried completely reinstalling pulseaudio (based on suggestions found on the ubuntu wiki) to no avail. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible
I have tried fix from @kammon101 with no luck, as I cannot find the scaleaddon plugin (just scale plugin appears on my list). I think we should continue debugging this issue, and try to find a more stable workaround (the unity --replace command is working though, it's ugly to restart the session because it cannot start correctly with hot- corners!)
