[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1791789] Re: FF62 upgrade : search engines override, french dictionnary and language pack lost.
Our custom search engines reappearing between search engine cache rebuilds is not a new issue, but it's being made worse by a new bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1489820) which is causing a cache rebuild to happen on every restart rather than after app upgrades (and is also responsible for making some en-US search engines appear for non en-US users). I've found some other issues with our search defaults as well. I'll have some updates for this tomorrow. ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #1489820 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1489820 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791789 Title: FF62 upgrade : search engines override, french dictionnary and language pack lost. Investigation shows that the problem lies in e.g. /usr/lib/firefox/distribution/searchplugins/locale/en-GB/google.xml Search suggestions are configured to use this URL: https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=ubuntu={searchTerms} However testing shows that this URL always fails with a 400 error, but if you replace the "ubuntu" in the URL with "firefox" (as the vanilla Firefox release has it) then it does work. Compare the responses for these URLs: https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=ubuntu=test https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox=test So if I change "ubuntu" to "firefox" in google.xml, and then start Firefox with a new profile, Google search suggestions start workng again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1718448] Re: Firefox builds use nonstandard locale codes
I should point out, the difference between Ubuntu and Mozilla builds is that Mozilla provide locale-specific builds of Firefox and "general.useragent.locale" is defined as part of the build. Ubuntu provides a single Firefox build and "general.useragent.locale" is provided by language packs, which in this case appear to have a different code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718448 Title: Firefox builds use nonstandard locale codes Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps to Reproduce: 1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690445] Re: Link failure in trusty/i386
Subscribing doko, as I'm not sure if there's a subtle glibc bug here (with the ordering of libraries in the libc.so linker script). I can only reproduce this on trusty's toolchain in any case, so not particularly important. And only on x86 (the compiler doesn't appear to emit calls to stack_chk_fail_local on x86-64). ** Also affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: New => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690445 Title: Link failure in trusty/i386 Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in thunderbird source package in Trusty: Fix Committed Bug description: Thunderbird fails to link on trusty/i386 with the following error: /<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/_virtualenv/bin/python /<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/mozilla/config/expandlibs_exec.py --uselist -- /usr/bin/g++ -std=gnu++11 -Wall -Wc++11-compat -Wempty-body -Wignored-qualifiers -Woverloaded-virtual -Wpointer-arith -Wsign-compare -Wtype-limits -Wunreachable-code -Wwrite-strings -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wno-error=maybe-uninitialized -Wno-error=deprecated-declarations -Wno-error=array-bounds -fno-exceptions -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-rtti -ffunction-sections -fdata-sections -fno-exceptions -fno-math-errno -pthread -pipe -g -freorder-blocks -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -fPIC -shared -Wl,-z,defs -Wl,--gc-sections -Wl,-h,libprldap60.so -o libprldap60.so ldappr-dns.o ldappr-error.o ldappr-io.o ldappr-public.o ldappr-threads.o -lpthread -Wl,-z,noexecstack -Wl,-z,text -Wl,--build-id -Wl,-rpath-link,/<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/dist/bin -Wl,-rpath-link,/usr/lib ../../../../config/exter nal/nspr/libnspr.a ../../../../ldap/c-sdk/libraries/libldap/libldap60.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/pr/libnspr4.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/libc/libplc4.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/ds/libplds4.so-ldl Executing: /usr/bin/g++ -std=gnu++11 -Wall -Wc++11-compat -Wempty-body -Wignored-qualifiers -Woverloaded-virtual -Wpointer-arith -Wsign-compare -Wtype-limits -Wunreachable-code -Wwrite-strings -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wno-error=maybe-uninitialized -Wno-error=deprecated-declarations -Wno-error=array-bounds -fno-exceptions -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-rtti -ffunction-sections -fdata-sections -fno-exceptions -fno-math-errno -pthread -pipe -g -freorder-blocks -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -fPIC -shared -Wl,-z,defs -Wl,--gc-sections -Wl,-h,libprldap60.so -o libprldap60.so /<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/ldap/c-sdk/libraries/libprldap/tmpPoM9m_.list -lpthread -Wl,-z,noexecstack -Wl,-z,text -Wl,--build-id -Wl,-rpath-link,/<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/dist/bin -Wl,-rpath-link,/usr/lib ../libldap/libldap60.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/pr/libnspr4.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/libc/libplc4.so ../../../../config/external/nspr/ds/libpl ds4.so -ldl /<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/ldap/c-sdk/libraries/libprldap/tmpPoM9m_.list: INPUT("ldappr-dns.o") INPUT("ldappr-error.o") INPUT("ldappr-io.o") INPUT("ldappr-public.o") INPUT("ldappr-threads.o") /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc_nonshared.a(stack_chk_fail_local.oS): In function `__stack_chk_fail_local': (.text+0x10): undefined reference to `__stack_chk_fail' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make[5]: *** [libprldap60.so] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/<>/thunderbird-52.1.0+build2/obj-i686-linux-gnu/ldap/c-sdk/libraries/libprldap' make[4]: *** [ldap/c-sdk/libraries/libprldap/target] Error 2 make[4]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs I've worked around this in the past by exporting "LIBS=-lc", but without really understanding what the issue is. I can work around this issue with a cd /etc/apparmor.d/disable ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox apt-get install --reinstall --purge apparmor libapparmor-perl libapparmor1 After that, content is rendered again. I had this problem earlier (https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1643200) and worked around it by installing a firefox extension "ubuntu modifications". But after updating from 51.0.0 to 51.0.1, I got the same problem again and enabling or disabling the extension did not help any more. Same for enabling/disabling all the hardware acceleration and/or e10s settings in about:config. Now that it seems to be an apparmor profile issue, I think that can be fixed in a nice manner. And it also should see some priority. Therefore, I think it makes sense to have a clean new ticket for this. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1648616] Re: Firefox uses its own version of NSS, incompatible with system version
The Firefox we ship is deliberately as close as possible to what Mozilla provides, so this isn't going to change ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1648616 Title: Firefox uses its own version of NSS, incompatible with system version Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Because of bug 1647285 I need to install corporate SSL CAs into the database of each NSS-using application individually. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for Firefox. Not only does Firefox ship with its *own* version of NSS instead using the system's version, but it even seems to be configured very differently. Firefox appears to use the legacy Berkeley DB database for its softokn, in key3.db/cert8.db. However, the system's certutil won't work with that legacy format: $ certutil -d ~/.mozilla/firefox/default.default/ -L certutil: function failed: SEC_ERROR_LEGACY_DATABASE: The certificate/key database is in an old, unsupported format. I can force it to use the SQL database in key4.db/cert9.db by running with NSS_DEFAULT_DB_TYPE=sql, and then I *can* install trusted CAs with certutil. But actually, it's much simpler to just make a symlink from firefox's own special copy of the SSL trust roots in libnssckbi.so, to the system's p11-kit-trust.so — thus making Firefox honour the system trust configuration. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1447345] Re: Support the unprivileged namespace sandbox
** Changed in: oxide Milestone: branch-1.16 => branch-1.17 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447345 Title: Support the unprivileged namespace sandbox Status in Oxide: Triaged Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Chromium has a new layer 1 sandbox which replaces the suid sandbox on systems with CLONE_NEWUSER. However, it's currently incompatible with application confinement. To summarize, the sandbox mechanism does something like this: 1) Browser launches zygote process: - clones with CLONE_NEWUSER | CLONE_NEWPID | CLONE_NEWNET and then exec() 2) Zygote initializes sandbox: - unshare(CLONE_NEWUSER) - clones a new process with CLONE_FS and then does waitpid(). The child chroots to /proc/self/fdinfo - Enables CAP_SYS_ADMIN (see below) 3) Zygote forks - Parent becomes init - Child continues as zygote 4) Zygote waits for requests from the browser to create render processes 5) On each request: - Zygote clones a new process with CLONE_NEWPID (this is why it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN) - New process drops all privileges and becomes a renderer This produces the following denial on the device: type=1400 audit(1429733985.487:153): apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" profile="com.zeptolab.cuttherope.full_cuttherope_0.5.2" pid=7195 comm="qmlscene" capability=21 capname="sys_admin" The oxide_helper profile already allows sys_admin, but this is coming from the browser process, just here: 7229 clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|SIGCHLD) = 7246 <-- Test that the new sandbox can be used 7246 exit_group(0) = ? 7229 wait4(7246, 7246 +++ exited with 0 +++ 7229 <... wait4 resumed> [{WIFEXITED(s) && WEXITSTATUS(s) == 0}], 0, NULL) = 7246 7229 --- SIGCHLD {si_signo=SIGCHLD, si_code=CLD_EXITED, si_pid=7246, si_status=0, si_utime=0, si_stime=0} --- 7229 write(13, "\0", 1)= 1 7229 rt_sigreturn()= 7246 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/pid", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/net", F_OK) = 0 7229 getuid32()= 32011 7229 getgid32()= 32011 7229 access("/proc/self/setgroups", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 7229 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, ~[RTMIN RT_1], [], 8) = 0 7229 clone(child_stack=0xbe8518d4, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|CLONE_NEWPID|CLONE_NEWNET|SIGCHLD) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) It fails in step 1) above, because it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN before it's able to transition to the oxide_helper profile (which allows it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1447345/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The child chroots to /proc/self/fdinfo - Enables CAP_SYS_ADMIN (see below) 3) Zygote forks - Parent becomes init - Child continues as zygote 4) Zygote waits for requests from the browser to create render processes 5) On each request: - Zygote clones a new process with CLONE_NEWPID (this is why it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN) - New process drops all privileges and becomes a renderer This produces the following denial on the device: type=1400 audit(1429733985.487:153): apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" profile="com.zeptolab.cuttherope.full_cuttherope_0.5.2" pid=7195 comm="qmlscene" capability=21 capname="sys_admin" The oxide_helper profile already allows sys_admin, but this is coming from the browser process, just here: 7229 clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|SIGCHLD) = 7246 <-- Test that the new sandbox can be used 7246 exit_group(0) = ? 7229 wait4(7246, 7246 +++ exited with 0 +++ 7229 <... wait4 resumed> [{WIFEXITED(s) && WEXITSTATUS(s) == 0}], 0, NULL) = 7246 7229 --- SIGCHLD {si_signo=SIGCHLD, si_code=CLD_EXITED, si_pid=7246, si_status=0, si_utime=0, si_stime=0} --- 7229 write(13, "\0", 1)= 1 7229 rt_sigreturn()= 7246 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/pid", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/net", F_OK) = 0 7229 getuid32()= 32011 7229 getgid32()= 32011 7229 access("/proc/self/setgroups", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 7229 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, ~[RTMIN RT_1], [], 8) = 0 7229 clone(child_stack=0xbe8518d4, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|CLONE_NEWPID|CLONE_NEWNET|SIGCHLD) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) It fails in step 1) above, because it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN before it's able to transition to the oxide_helper profile (which allows it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1447345/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1532484] Re: Don't warn about unsigned extension installed via Debian packages
This isn't something that we're going to be changing in Ubuntu ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532484 Title: Don't warn about unsigned extension installed via Debian packages Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Opinion Status in iceweasel package in Debian: Unknown Bug description: "Mozilla is in the progress of requiring extensions to be signed, which I think is a good thing. However, for Debian packages we already have it signed by the Developer uploading it, I see no need to have Mozilla also sign it. I suggest we don't warn / disable about extensions installed on the system, but do require the signature for those that are installed by browser itself." [1] Shipping signed extensions in Debian packages is no options, because then we could only ship unmodified, pre-build extensions. That contradicts the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) #3 and signed extensions are not the preferred source for modification. So, please allow unsigned extensions installed in the system directory. Debian already applied a patch for it (see Debian bug #800150). Everyone having write access to the system directory would probably also have access to the files of Firefox and could tinker with it. This severity of this bug will raise when Mozilla will reject unsigned extensions (planned for Firefox 44). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1420985] Re: Ubuntu start page for Firefox does not respect DuckDuckGo, Bing, Twitter, Amazon, eBay or Wikipedia default search setting
** Package changed: firefox (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-start-page -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420985 Title: Ubuntu start page for Firefox does not respect DuckDuckGo, Bing, Twitter, Amazon, eBay or Wikipedia default search setting Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu Start Page: New Bug description: Ubuntu start page for Firefox displays a search box (and not much else), for either Yahoo or Google, if either of those searches are the user's default search option. For every other search option, the start page defaults to showing a Google search box. I would really like to see a variant of the startpage for DuckDuckGo, which is an attractive search choice for me, but currently my start page just shows a Google search box. I'd honestly be fine if they got rid of the Ubuntu start page entirely; "about:home" is fine and a bit nicer-looking IMO, even if it is saturated with Mozilla-ey-ness. Short of that, please respect the user's default search choice, and show a search box/logo for that search provider. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1447345] Re: Support the unprivileged namespace sandbox
** Changed in: oxide Milestone: branch-1.12 => branch-1.13 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447345 Title: Support the unprivileged namespace sandbox Status in Oxide: Triaged Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Chromium has a new layer 1 sandbox which replaces the suid sandbox on systems with CLONE_NEWUSER. However, it's currently incompatible with application confinement. To summarize, the sandbox mechanism does something like this: 1) Browser launches zygote process: - clones with CLONE_NEWUSER | CLONE_NEWPID | CLONE_NEWNET and then exec() 2) Zygote initializes sandbox: - unshare(CLONE_NEWUSER) - clones a new process with CLONE_FS and then does waitpid(). The child chroots to /proc/self/fdinfo - Enables CAP_SYS_ADMIN (see below) 3) Zygote forks - Parent becomes init - Child continues as zygote 4) Zygote waits for requests from the browser to create render processes 5) On each request: - Zygote clones a new process with CLONE_NEWPID (this is why it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN) - New process drops all privileges and becomes a renderer This produces the following denial on the device: type=1400 audit(1429733985.487:153): apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" profile="com.zeptolab.cuttherope.full_cuttherope_0.5.2" pid=7195 comm="qmlscene" capability=21 capname="sys_admin" The oxide_helper profile already allows sys_admin, but this is coming from the browser process, just here: 7229 clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|SIGCHLD) = 7246 <-- Test that the new sandbox can be used 7246 exit_group(0) = ? 7229 wait4(7246, 7246 +++ exited with 0 +++ 7229 <... wait4 resumed> [{WIFEXITED(s) && WEXITSTATUS(s) == 0}], 0, NULL) = 7246 7229 --- SIGCHLD {si_signo=SIGCHLD, si_code=CLD_EXITED, si_pid=7246, si_status=0, si_utime=0, si_stime=0} --- 7229 write(13, "\0", 1)= 1 7229 rt_sigreturn()= 7246 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/pid", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/user", F_OK) = 0 7229 access("/proc/self/ns/net", F_OK) = 0 7229 getuid32()= 32011 7229 getgid32()= 32011 7229 access("/proc/self/setgroups", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 7229 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, ~[RTMIN RT_1], [], 8) = 0 7229 clone(child_stack=0xbe8518d4, flags=CLONE_NEWUSER|CLONE_NEWPID|CLONE_NEWNET|SIGCHLD) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) It fails in step 1) above, because it needs CAP_SYS_ADMIN before it's able to transition to the oxide_helper profile (which allows it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1447345/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Package changed: firefox (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-start-page -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1526889 Title: Better and more useful Firefox Startpage Status in Ubuntu Start Page: New Bug description: The default startpage in Ubuntu is not horrible, but it is kind of annoying, because it doesn’t scale at all with higher resolutions. Also setting Google as a default, isn't bad, but it would be better if you could choose on the page, which search engine you want to use, and set the startpage accordingly. There should still be a search bar, with Google in the middle of the site, and also the Ubuntu links, but also options to change the search engine and startpage on the fly, to reduce setup time. If all of this is to much work, at least please get the scaling right, so it doesn’t look like a scam.
