2. Via upper-right menu switch to "alice".
3. On greeter screen setect "alice", login under alice.
4. Logout, return to greeter screen.
5. Select bob (already logged in). Enter password.
6. Lock screen. Issue appeared.
Issue appeared on every screen lock.

Just to note: Looks like I can see this gdm/gnome-shell CPU eating on a
test install of just updated Ubuntu 18.04 (XOrg mode) in VirtualBox.

I can't believe all it took was to do:
sudo apt purge dbus-user-session
Thanks to whoever discovered this!
Sidenote: My Yandex browser now launches instantaneously rather than
taking atleast half a minute to open up.
This fix was definitely a good find
